Before you hire Michelle Border of edges and borders Landscaping, Get your agreement in writing, and don’t pay her before she works. I recently hired Michelle Border of Edges and Borders Landscaping. I had told her I wanted my yard cleaned up of leaves, pine needles, twigs, etc. left from the winter, as well as deadheading and cutting down some plants. Michelle used the word ‘we’ a lot, and I asked her if she had a crew. She said she often has people work with her. We agreed on a price for the job, and she estimated it would take them about 10 hours to do the yard. She asked for half upfront, which I was happy to do. She showed up alone on the day she promised, but 90 minutes late. I paid her half our agreed amount, and she worked hard by herself for 4 1/2 hours, completing about 25% of the job. She said she’d be back the next day, but never arrived, and did not contact me. A few days later she told me she would be back the following weekend. The day before, I confirmed she would be arriving at 11:30. She never arrived, and never contacted me to let me know. Two days later she texted me and said she would come the following Friday. On that Friday morning I texted her to ask when she would be here. She did not respond, and she never showed. This past weekend, I texted her and told her that I wanted her to finish the job, or at least come back and do 25% more, so I would get my service for wages already paid. In lieu of either of those, please refund me half my deposit. Her response was to disingenuously reframe our agreement to: I had agreed to pay her $50 an hour. Her resolution was to refund me for 30 minutes of work. I most certainly would not have agreed to $50 an hour for yard work such as this. So as a warning to my neighbors, if you want to hire Michelle Border of Edges and Borders landscaping, get your agreement in writing, and don’t pay her before she works. She is a hard worker, but quite unprofessional in her communication and her pricing strategy.
