I had to take a day off work and drag the lawnmower to this place which was not easy to get to during traffic. The guy at Ed's Mower & Saw Shoppe came out to my car. I opened the back of my SUV where the lawnmower was. Without taking the lawnmower out or looking at it more closely, he said getting the lawnmower to start will cost $150. He tried to justify his price by saying that buying a new model of this Honda lawnmower would cost $600 and so I should spend the $150 to service this one. (which is not true. These are sold at Home Depot for $400) I told him I could buy a brand new push lawnmower for $150 at Home Depot or Lowe's or Amazon. He ignored my comments and said I need a "full service" where they check and service everything about the lawnmower in order to make it like new. He was smarmy and spoke as if I knew nothing about lawnmowers. This was the classic scenario of taking advantage of someone he assumed to be not knowledgeable. From my research and calling others, this was way above what the price should be. I told him that I don't want the full service since this is a virtually new lawnmower that has just been sitting around for a long time. I can change the oil myself but I just wanted him to clean the carburetor since I did not have the requisite tools to loosen the nut to take out the carburetor. He seemed surprised by what I said and then said how they would only replace the carburetor and not clean it. And to replace the carburetor without the full service would be $120. This made no sense. It was as if he was determined to charge me close to the original $120. I asked if there was something lower than $100 and he said no and started to tell me some techno-babble about the importance of servicing this lawnmower in order to baffle me. I politely stopped him and said I could clean or replace the carburetor by myself as there are a number of YouTube videos that tell you exactly how to do it. When I asked him how much would it be to buy a carburetor for this lawnmower, he said it was $35. What?? That means they were going to charge me $85 for the labor of changing a carburetor? Talk about rip off. I was done and got ready to leave. He continued to try and justify his high price and try to convince me, not realizing I work in a field where I deal with people like this on a daily basis. I found his attitude disgusting and found some of the other reviews here consistent with my experience. I would avoid this place.
Description of Work: Received an old but relatively unused high-end Honda lawnmower from a relative that's been sitting around in his garage. It would not start but you can hear the engine trying to turn over. From my extensive research, the carburetor needs to be cleaned which should be about $50-75. Other reviews from Angie's List also confirm this price. I just didn't have the tools to loosen and take apart the carburetor in order to clean it.

I bought an Electric Start Assist Mower from Ed's apprx a year ago. The manager talked me into buying the mower because it is very hard for me to use a pull throttle since , like everything else, they are designed for someone taller and stronger than me. Less than a year later the electric start unit on the new mower stopped working. I was unable to get the mower into Ed's store (When I bought the mower they told me they could have someone pick it up if it needed repair. Yet when I asked if they could pick the mower up now that it needed repair I was told I would have to find someone and pay them to bring it in.) so I wasn't able to get it into the shop until a week ago on Saturday. I am a 5'1" , 105 lb woman so wrestling the mower into my SUV was a major undertaking. I took it into the shop and explained that the mower was only a year old and the starter had already failed. They said they would check it and call me. I did not hear from anyone so the following Friday I called the Shoppe. Everyone I spoke to was very rude and acted like I was unreasonable in my expectation of a call back after a week. I was told that they had been running at least two weeks behind for some time ( a fact they never mentioned before I left my wower there). I need my mower and can not continue to wait for what should have been a quick warranty repair so I will be picking my mower up tomorrow and using it without the electric starter until I can find someone more customer service oriented to do the repair. I would not recommend using their services or buying from them.
Description of Work: They failed to stand behind the product they sold me and failed to provide the level of service they promised when I bought my mower from them.

He picked up the lawnmower from my home and once the repairs were completed he dropped it off at my home. This was convent for me as I did not want to put the lawnmower in my vehicle. I believe the charge for this was more than reasonable. He was very professional and I would definitely use him again.

I wasn't too encouraged when dropping the tiller off for repair. The counterman seemed annoyed with the description of my problem. I sensed a sneer but can't confirm.Being an amateur tiller, I didn't have the lingo down, or maybe it was too close to lunch.Make it work, was the final, accepted phrase.About 7 days later I picked it up.It runs great. Like new.New carburetor. Fair price.Happy to have found a competent shop.

I've used them maybe 3 or 4 times because they're the only repair shop for small engines around here. I just think they've gone down a lot in the level of their customer service since I started using them. I've gotten it repaired and I would have to take it back because it wouldn't be running right or the repair would break down. I probably wouldn't use them for more repair work. I think they have really nice equipment to buy, but I probably wouldn't use them for repair again.

The salesman, Grant, is not the most courteous. I feel he is patronizing to me, maybe because I'm a woman. When I get blades sharpened, very long wait, expensive and they never call me back. I have to call them back to ask "Is it done yet?" The workers downstairs, who do maintenance do not seem friendly or courteous either. I am here now because I am looking for a better store/shop to purchase a lawnmower and trimmer (old ones broke) and get service from.

Description of Work: I took my lawnmower to Ed's for a general clean-up, service and blade sharpening. From my discussion with the person at the service counter, I understood my cost would be $80 plus parts. When I picked up the mower ~10 days later (as they promised in advance) my bill was for $131. This included $23 for a new cable when I had simply asked them to add a fastener to my existing cable that had lost its original fastener. When I told the cashier I was quite disappointed at the price, she immediately offered me a 10% 'price confusion' discount, so after complaining I ultimately paid $118. Today I used the mower, and it performed quite well and was very clean with a sharp blade at pick-up. Overall their actual service was seemingly very good but their pricing was a major disappointment, and with their quick offer of a 10% price discount due to 'confusion', I doubt I was the first person surprised by the actual price versus their original quote. Make sure pricing is very specifically understood upfront when taking a product to this business, and if surprised by the actual price, express your disappointment.

Initially, we thought we were getting what we ordered but when the salesman ordered the wrong part he refused to asssist in resolving the issue. He was terribly rude on the phone and said he thought the storage cover (called a uv cover) was the canopy. His next words were the real shocker. He said and I quote "that they sell lots of tools with parts in the store and he can't be expected to know all of them". I explained to him that we specifically wanted a canopy and he said he remembered that but that he thought the uv protector (storage cover) sounded like a canopy. I am amazed and disappointed. I tried to reach the owner of the store but she is away. If this gets resolved, I will resubmit. For now, I would strongly recommend not purchasing ANY equipment from these people. If there is a problem they will leave you high and dry.
Description of Work: We bought a Cub Cadet farm vehicle and ordered a canopy to use while driving the vehicle to keep sun exposure down. My husband and I were very clear about what we wanted. The salesman, Grant, ordered the wrong accessory. He ordered a cover like one would use to cover a parked vehicle. The part came almost a month after ordering the vehicle and then it was clearly the wrong part. Grant refused to take it back in spite of the fact that it was his mistake and said it would cost him a restocking fee. We paid for the canopy and instead got a storage cover that we could not use. We have a locked garage for it.
