In 1969, DeWhitt built this business by selling quality appliances at a great price and by providing legendary customers service. Today, it's business as usual at DeWhitt Appliance.
DeWhitt is the Northwest's leading member of the Brand Source buying network, assuring our customers competitive prices on the best brands. You can trust our salaried salespeople to explain all the benefits and features of today's energy efficient innovative appliances. And most importantly, you can be assured that DeWhitt Appliance will be here to serve you after the sale.
I did not receive the 18 cubic foot refrigerator that I ordered. Instead I received a 16.6 cubic foot fridge. Called DeWhitt within an hour of delivery and was told someone would get back to me. They didn’t. When I finally contacted I was told the installer tested for COVID. I again asked if someone was working on the fact I received the wrong fridge. No, no one was working on it. By the time someone finally got back to me, I was told I would have to pay a restock charge of 263.00. I still, months later, do not have the fridge I ordered and finally gave up. I will never shop at this outlet again!

Hello [Member Name Removed]... Yes, we had one of our delivery people test positive back in December. And we did the right thing by notifying you. We fully adhered to Oregon State guidelines for contact tracing and quarantine. Turns out he was exposed at a private Christmas party he attended. As far as the refrigerator... you received the one you ordered. That means you received the model that was on your original order. We did not change anything and did not substitute a different model. If you would like to exchange for a different model we can take a look at that. As a side note: I see you took delivery of the GE induction slide-in range too. That was after the refrigerator was delivered to you. What a fantastic price you received on that!! Let me know if you would like to exchange the refrigerator. But the offer to exchange will expire 3-13-21. Brian N

We preferred to do business with a local store, DeWhitt, and did not want to purchase our new laundry center from a "big box" store. Part of this was principle and part due to the poor service reputation of the big box stores. We paid DeWhitt an extra $63 for delivery and installation to a ground floor location. Our first load of laundry resulted in a complete flooding of the area. The installers failed to put the discharge hose into the drain. While my wife began mopping, I phoned DeWhitt to report what had happened. I was told: - "We're sorry" "People make mistakes", - "They probably installed it and it slipped out." (the hose was still secured in the wire transport ring). and, - "There's nothing we can do". We spent the next 90 minutes mopping and cleaning and next day or so making sure things were dried out. I agree, people do make mistakes. I do not agree there was nothing DeWhitt could have done. A few responses that come to mind are: - "Was anything damaged? If so, DeWhitt will make it good.", or, - "Stop what you're doing and we'll send a clean up crew immediately.", or - "Have it cleaned up and DeWhitt will pay for costs incurred." or even - "DeWhitt will refund your delivery charges.". Ironically, a family member recently purchased a full sized stacked washer/dryer from a big box store. It was installed up two flights of stairs in a small closet with no problems and at no cost. We are at an age where we probably won't ever buy another new appliance, but if we do, we'll skip DeWhitt and head to a big box store and save money and disappointment.

Nick Clark helped me at the store. I wanted something above a builder's package, quality appliances but ones that wouldn't break the bank. Nick worked with me to understand what I wanted and never pushed for what he though I should buy. Price was important and he gave me options so I could make a choice. I started off with a range, microwave and dishwasher all KitchenAid. When it came to a washer & dryer I didn't want bells and whistles. They had the best price on Whirlpool Duets and I went with those. My deliver date kept changing because the close date of my condo kept changing. Nick was accommodating and kept his sense of humor. My appliances were delivered today by two very nice guys who called with a 2 hour delivery window and were there as promised. The explained how stacking the washer & dryer would work and measured to make sure that I had the right hoses and connectors. I appreciated their professionalism and willingness to educate me respectfully.

This is the second time we bought an appliance from DeWitts and we will use them again. They always have inventory in stock or can get what I need quickly. DeWitts also has the best prices in town. They make shopping easy because I can research what I want on-line, call them up with the make and model number and they will give me a delivery date. The only challenge I've had is with installation timing, but that may be a seasonal problem. Our stove broke just before Thanksgiving in 2012 and our oven just before Christmas in 2013. They subcontract installation and none of the installers were available. At the last minute, a slot opened up just before Thanksgiving and we were happy with the installation. The Christmas installation was done by a friend of a friend, but was never completed (the trim).

Limited in our choices for a small space in an older home, we realized that a traditional, top mounted freezer refrigerator was our best bet. Unfortunately, most appliance stores carry very few of those models but we finally found one we liked at DeWhitt's. We were satisfied with the price, current availability and very helpful service from salesperson, CJ. We purchased it on Monday and it was delivered promptly the following Thursday. Two friendly delivery guys quickly installed it for us and left---perhaps too quickly. We have had other refrigerators in the past but have never had to unpack the interior ourselves---rip off tape, remove styrofoam (with some difficulty), attach the hinge cover, etc. But the most annoying thing was that they did not level it. I e-mailed CJ about the leveling issue but got no reply. Eventually a call to the store did get the delivery guys out here again. Imagine our surprise when they said they had never dealt with this particular model before and were not familiar with how to level and stabilize it. I gave them the enclosed installation instructions and they did what they could. After they left, we discovered that the refrigerator was quite unsteady. Clearly, having the same guys come out yet again was not going to solve the problem so we contacted an independent appliance repair service and our brand new fridge was finally stabilized---for an additional fee. Is it too much to expect that an appliance store's delivery people know how to properly install the products the store sells? Surely it is the store's responsibility to adequately train its employees.

Hello [member name removed]... We're very sorry about your experience. It's not the normal DeWhitt way. Due to recent expansion and thus new hires, your delivery crew did not yet have experience with that particular refrigerator you purchased. DeWhitt does extensive training with all new delivery personnel. Unfortunately, there are rare situations and unusual models that still remain in the learning curve. On top of that, CJ has been on vacation. He just returned today. You will be hearing from him. And we will be addressing this at the next company meeting. DeWhitt will be covering your expenses for the additional service call. CJ will discuss that with you. Again, I apologize for your negative experience at DeWhitt. Brian

Price and service were very good. Unfortunately the refrig did not work. I called them the next morning when the frig and freezer still weren't cold. They said they would take care of it. Plugged in a new frig at their store let it get cold over night and delivered it the next morning. Frig and freezer ready to go. Never even suggested repairing the one that didn't work.

Once they've made a sale, they don't seem to care at all about following up with customers who have problems. I will never do business with them again.
Description of Work: I bought my JennAir range from Dewhitt because I was using Kitchen Concepts (in the same store) for my kitchen remodel. The price wasn't all that great, but it is the only model that will fit in my kitchen arrangement. The range comes with a grill unit, so in addition I ordered the optional two-burner unit to replace the grill. The order came with the wrong unit for my model. It took me a week just to connect with the sales person who handled the original sale (no one else could handle it). Two weeks or so later, and several phone calls, I received the wrong parts to (theoretically) replace the existing burner caps and tops. I went to the store instead of calling again and was told by one salesman that "That's just the way they're making them these days." I had looked up the model on the JennAir website, so I knew that was not the case and that the unit I wanted did indeed exist. I had to wait another week to hear from the original salesman and another week or so after that before I finally got a call that the unit was in. I drove over to the store again and unpacked the new unit there in the warehouse before I signed off that it was indeed what I wanted.

Thank you for your review. Our salesperson Glenn told me he appologized because of his incorrect assumption regarding the Jenn-Air accessory you purchased. I appologize too. This must have been a frustrating experience for you. Problems and issues such as these do arrise occasionally. How it's handled is what sets businesses apart from each others. We constantly stress in our sales meetings how important it is to ALWAYS help customers with problems... even when the original salesperson is not present. This is and always has been highly stressed. And we have discussed it again since you left your review. To the best of their ability, all sale associates have assured me they are helping every customer, even if they didn't sell the product. If necessary, we are happy to call salespeople on their days off to get things resolved too. Glenn is one of our most knowledgable and helpful sales associates at DeWhitt. He is an outstanding member of our sales team. Again, I appologize for your frustrating experience when purchasing your Jenn-Air accessory from DeWhitt. We will continue to take steps to prevent negative experiences from happening in the future.

I called DeWhitt at noon the day before the scheduled delivery and paid the remaining balance with my credit card. The salesperson reaffirmed that my refrigerator would be delivered the next morning. Next day, no delivery; they hadn't put it on the truck. I had to wait till the following week to get my refrigerator, which was an inconvenience since I had moved to a new area, new house, and had no refrigerator at all. DeWhitt contracted with another company to actually deliver it, and the other company tried to charge me an $89 delivery fee. DeWhitt gave me an extended warranty to make up for their error. The refrigerator has a refrigerated drawer constructed with a painted metal frame/plastic drawer on the inside. When it was delivered, the metal was chipped and already rusting in several spots and discoloring the clear plastic drawer next to it. I emailed DeWhitt within two days of getting the appliance and asked them to exchange it out. No one responded, so I contacted them again. They had lost my request and hadn't ordered the parts. In response to my second request, they took parts off their floor model (I found out later) and had a serviceman install them. After installation, I discovered the plastic drawer was all scratched up and the painted metal drawer was chipped too, although not as badly as the first one. DeWhitt was notified that they needed to get me some new parts. Time passed and on 5/31/2012 a service person from A and E, Whirlpool warranty, inspected the refrigerator and told me that this was a cosmetic problem and only covered by warranty for the first 30 days. I would be charged a $75 service fee and cost of parts if I wanted it fixed. I called DeWhitt, and they told me I should take it up with Whirlpool. This is my first and last purchase from DeWhitt. This is a company that doesn't care at all about handling the details.

The professionalism and customer service provided by DeWhitt is fantastic! I had a disappointing experience with DeWhitt initially and posted that experience and my feedback on Angie's List. Shortly after that posting, I received a phone call from Brian at DeWhitt. He told me he had read my post, and wanted to let me know that my disappointing experience wasn't the experience they wanted me or any customer to have with DeWhitt. He proactively told me that he wanted to work with me to ensure I found a dishwasher that met my needs and to get the new dishwasher installed in place of the one I've been unhappy with. Thank you Brian for your excellent service! I will definitely continue to purchase appliances from DeWhitt Appliance and recommend this store to others.

This is the worst retail experience we have ever had. We paid in full for an Electrolux bottom freezer refrigerator on July 31st 2010. It was not in stock and had to be ordered. The salesman said it would take about ten days. I understand that these things can take longer but after over three weeks with no word from DeWhitt's I called them on a Tuesday. They said the unit had arrived (why didn't they call me?) but they could not deliver it the following Saturday, it would have to be the next Saturday. On that day we waited for hours, no call from DeWhitt's ever came. I finally called them and was told that they had forgotten to add us to the delivery list and could not deliver it that day. Then a few hours later the called and said they would be able to deliver is at 6:00 PM. At 7:00 PM they had still not arrived so I called they said they were running late and it would be there later. At this point I had had enough after waiting all day, putting my life on hold and told them to deliver it the next Saturday. They showed up early the next Saturday, with a damaged unit that I recognized as the floor model. Dented and scratched. I think DeWhitt's forget to order my unit in the first place and hoped I would be enough of a chump to except a damaged floor model. I told them to put it back on the truct and get me a new one. Three more weeks went by with no word from DeWhitt's so I called them again. Oh yeah, it is here but it is too late to get deliver it this Saturday. Of Course. So the next Saturday I finally got what I paid for. In October. DeWhitt's does not have in house delivery, they contract it out. I paid about sixty dollars for that. They are one of the few dealers that charge for delivery. They claim that they will use a device that will float the unit off of the floor so it never touches carpet or flooring. What I got was a couple of guys carring it in by force. They did not even offer shoe coverings. I think it is a bad idea to buy anything from this company. Nothing but deception. I forgot to say on the report I just posted that the salesman said he would comp us a ten year warranty for our trouble but we have not received any paperwork of confirmation of this. I doubt it will happen. Again, avoid this company like the plague.

Wow... this sounds bad. And as the owner of DeWhitt's I'm very sorry about this customer's experience. We normally do not use an independent delivery company in Portland. But occasionally when our delivery crew is too busy we will. The independent delivery crew used for this delivery is no longer used or recommended by DeWhitt's. Our delivery crew does use straps to levitate the appliances in the house whenever possible. I can assure everyone this negative experience is rare. I will be contacting this member to offer my appology and reconciliation of the problems they experienced. Brian Newsom, Owner

It was a terrible experience. They had horrible customer service. I got a defective product. I am expecting to have a new refrigerator delivered tomorrow. I wasn't happy with the product and I wanted to send it back. The owner insisted on coming to my house. I was the only one here. He insisted that it was absolutely fine and that there was nothing wrong with it. He also said that I was wasting his time, and he walked out.

Excellent service and support. We had a slight mix up early on regarding our existing Jenn-air cook top, we purchased a cook top that was not compatible with our island. As a result we had to purchase another Jenn-air cook top. We informed Bill, our sales rep, the next day about the problem, and he was very responsive and fixed the mistake immediately. Because of the mix up early on and the fact that we were moving into a new house, we had some time constraints. They made every effort to get the appliances into the warehouse at the same time and earlier then expected so we would not need to make two separate trips to pickup the appliances. Very pleased overall. Had exactly what we needed and the understood our needs.

We were lookinbg for kitchen appliances. We were left alone to look, but received excellent service and suggestions when we were ready. It came down to the wire because we had to have things delivered to piggyback onto a furnace installation. They were delivered the next day and in a timely manner. We also used the contractor they recommended. We are soooo satisfied. To top it off, they were by far the least expensive from all we looked at.

Our old Maytag refrigerator died. Food was spoiling and we needed help NOW!! Went to the store and told Jerry Hoffmann what our predicament was. He was VERY helpful and his installation crew got our new Whirlpool refrigerator installed by 3 PM. Now, we may have been at the right spot at the right time but Mr. Hoffmann said if they couldn't get the refrigerator that we wanted they would install a loaner until ours was ready. That wasn't necessary because they had the unit we wanted in stock. We were very impressed with the price, delivery speed and the helpful attitude from the store personnel to the delivery and installation crew. They couldn't have been better. It was nice to find a company that gives service, price and honest information. We recommend them for all your appliances needs.
