When we started, we had a contractor in mind, but we couldn't agree on some aspects of the project, and it fell through. We asked Doug for a bid and he was able to start on it in the next month. He worked with us and the designer and recommended smart changes to solve construction issues. He worked with us to keep the costs down as much as possible. On this project, we found some construction issues in the main part of the house that needed to be resolved and added on to the cost of the project, and Doug kept these costs very reasonable. Doug doesn't tolerate poor workmanship from his crew or his subs; if something is amiss, he will have a guy do it over until it's right. He doesn't try to cut corners on quality or materials, but he also knows the more expensive and less expensive ways to solve issues, and it's your choice. He'll work with a client to keep costs down, and even let the client do some of the work to keep costs down. With Doug, what you see is what you get. He's honest. He completely brought in the project on budget, and the extra things we added on later were at very reasonable cost. We added on some things, and he rolled with the punches (surprise! we're remodeling the kitchen!) He has a fantastic array of subs - HVAC, electrical, plumbing, cabinetry--who will come in and do an excellent job. Doug also did a lot of nice finishes in ways that made things sparkle. We did another major remodel about 10 years ago, and we were barely on speaking terms with the contractor by the end of it. Not so with Doug. Since I've gotten to know him, I realize that much of his work comes from people he has worked for in the past, and they call on him with the next project, and the next. I know how they feel, I wouldn't even think now about doing a remodel project without him.
