Curtis Custom Welding exceeded expectations. Thank you! Had an antique cast iron cookie tin which I wanted to hang on the kitchen wall. It had a loop, but it was perpendicular to the direction needed. Phoned and described what I needed done. Ron said to bring it over and when I did, he gave me different possible ways to make it work. Two surprises . . . 1) it was brass, not iron. Baking had created a deep grey patina, 2) it was ready the next morning. If you want a true craftsman who knows what he doing, don’t hesitate to call Curtis Custom Welding.

Ron did nice work. He very carefully welded a broken piece of a small scale replica cast of a iron stove. Welding was done on the back side so it would not show. Did it in his shop while I waited; it took about 10 minutes. Nice results, I recommend him.

I brought the deck to the shop, and was surprised that Ron could do the work while I waited! I also got a bonus tour of the garden and rabbitry. I'm really glad I called Curtis Custom Welding – it would have cost $800 to replace the deck, and Ron got me back to work with minimal time and expense.

Roger assessed the job quickly and said it would just take a few minutes and he could weld it while I waited. We were free to explore the large garden, bunnies, and chickens on the property while he completed the work. In just minutes he had completed the work, loaded the platform into my car and insisted on no charge, citing that it was for a child so he was happy to do it. Of note, they actually answered their phone when I initially inquired.
Description of Work: Some joints on metal crib mattress platform had come unattached after years of a little one using her crib as a trampoline. Needed to reattach/weld pieces of platform back to main frame.

I felt very comfortable with them both times as they went out of their way to help me even with my disability. I highly highly recommend that you visit their shop
Description of Work: On two separate occasions over the past year I have use their service to have my wheelchair repaired. Repair that would've cost me over $1500 to take into a medical shop only cost $20 the first time in $50 the second time with Curtis. Both times they were able to fix the chair on very short notice. They are very knowledgeable and courteous. I would highly recommend them for any type of work. Reasonably priced fast and very reliable

He was good. He certainly knows what he is doing and was clear about what he was going to do and what he would not do. It turns out it is not a permanent fix for the problem, which is bigger than the job that he performed. But this will give us a lot more time. I liked him.
Description of Work: We used Curtis Custom Welding. We have an automatic gate for our driveway and it was dragging on the ground. Another individual had told us that what we needed to do was weld this plate that had only been bolted on. So he came and provided that service.

Doing business with Ron is an interesting experience. He's a pleasant guy that takes all his calls (responsiveness) regardless of where he is on the project he is working on - this becomes a challenge when he gets to your project. I called Ron to discuss my situation and he said to come by in the afternoon. When I arrived he was working on a trailer repair, not a problem I would wait. His repair work seems to be on a first come basis, a plus in most situations. After finishing the trailer job and handling several other customers that came in to will call and pay plus visiting with some acquaintances that stopped in (all after I had arrived) Ron got to my project. First he was interrupted by a call from the owner of the trailer that had just been repaired who was not happy with the amount charged. Ron did some negotiating on the phone, should have been a red flag for me. Ron proceeded with my repair while taking calls and visiting with a buddy/customer. He seemed a bit stressed/rushed. The quality of his work on my project was average. Because of all the distractions I Timed his actual labor on my job, it was 30 minutes. So 2 hours after I arrived my job was complete. My major complaint is price, he wanted to charge me $100.00 - I paid him but said I was a bit surprised at the price. He burned two rods and used two $0.35 sanding disc's (his number). We negotiated to $80 - I think $60 would have been fair but frankly I wanted to get out of his shop. If you want to do business with Ron be prepared to negotiate, apparently it's part of his routine or just stay away if you don't want to play that game. Also I would suggest agreeing to a price up front - my error for not doing this.

I highly recommend Curtis Custom Welding. Great work, added supports to two chairs and then painted them to exactly match the chairs. I could not be happier. The chairs will support 350+ pounds without the legs bending like before.

My partner called Ron, sent him pictures of the work that needed to be done and scheduled with Ron to start the work on Saturday afternoon (June 22, 2013). At about 3:30 pm Saturday, I had to call Ron and find out where he was and if he was coming. Ron told me that he was delayed on a job that ran over and wouldn't be able to make it that day. Having a job run longer than expected is understandable, but he could have taken a minute to call and let us know. Ron said he would come over and quot;first thingand quot; Sunday to do the work on the railing. On Sunday, my partner and I were working in the yard and home most of the day waiting. Ron called at 11 am and left a voicemail message saying that he was coming over if were around. I returned his call around 3:00 pm, got his voicemail and had to leave him a message asking him to call us back. On Monday, my partner had to call him. Ron told my partner that he couldn't do the job because he was on another job, but would refer another welder to us to do the job. When the other welder arrived, Ron had given him the wrong specifications. He had told the other welder that only two posts needed to be fixed. There were actually four and he hadn't brought the right equipment for the job. The other welder had to return the next day, costing him extra time and gas. For us, it meant 3 days delay in get our railings fixed, time and frustration. Had Ron contacted us when he knew he was going to run late and not able to show up when scheduled, we would have understood. The lack of communication and courtesy was frustrating and unprofessional.

Ron did two things. He welded a metal wheel base to a funky floor lamp I was making, and he repaired an antique dictionary stand. The floor lamp was securely welded together, and the dictionary stand repair was done with finesse and skill...nearly undetectable if a person wasn't looking for it. Welding isn't a service I use very often, so I felt compelled to do a lot of homework. I'm glad I used Curtis, I won't need to slog through a bunch of reviews the next time I'm in the market for a welder.

Our fireplace insert developed a crack in the back portion 2 winters ago, but got much larger this last winter. Wanting to protect the air pipes behind the insert, I arranged Curtis Welding (Ron) to come over and weld the crack up. Not only did he fix the crack that I wanted fixed, he pointed out to me additional, incipient cracks that he welded up. So he didn't just fix the one thing that I wanted fixed, he put the whole insert into proper order. I'll probably be moving to a different kind of insert before this one fails again. Ron is a great welder with a wide degree of experience in his field. He takes great pride in his work and the workmanship shows it. He arrives at the job site with high quality equipment. I recommend Curtis Welding and will use Ron's services in the future.
Description of Work: Welded a crack in our fireplace insert. The crack had grown to slightly greater then 3/16 of an inch. The gap being a bit large, Ron welded a strip of steel over the gap. He also noticed that there were 3 more incipient cracks - that I didn't notice till he pointed them out. He ran beads along those as well

My client to his antique scale over to Ron's shop in East Portland. The repair took about an hour. My client was thrilled with the repair as the antique scale looked as good as new! We were having a difficult time finding anyone who would take on this repair. When I called Ron and described the repair job to him, he replied "I can fix that, in fact there isn't a welding job or welding material I cannot fix!" I love it when I have great craftmen I can call upon!
Description of Work: I am a realtor and I referred a client to Ron to repair an antique scale that was broken by during a move. He had to rebuild part of the scale as the broken piece was lost. No one else that I knew who does welding work would touch it. Ron welcomes the repair of anything that needs to be welded! He fixes antiques, ladies hair pins, gates, fences, lights, etc. I would highly recommend Ron!
