Columbia Redevelopment is a real estate investment company based in Portland, Oregon that specializes in purchasing residential properties in the Portland metro area. Our all cash, “as-is”, no fee purchases provide sellers with immediate results. Whether you have a home that is in need of extensive repairs, a vacant lot, or something in between, we have the experience and ability to structure a purchase that will address even the most complicated situation.
We entered into a contract to purchase one of their properties in early February 2020, with the sales agreement saying we would purchase the home upon approval of a VA loan. Everything was moving along per normal timelines, until the day we were supposed to close, our lender informed us that our VA loan was denied. We had no indication prior to this the loan would not close and none of our employment or financial information changed. Our lender had sent us a Closing Disclosure by the Thursday before (a requirement) and told us they were still planning on closing on time. The loan did not close. Columbia Redevelopment went into contract on the house on 3/9 with another buyer, and yet, they STILL refuse to sign the termination agreement so we can get our earnest money back. We had a financing contingency in the contract. We let them know within two days of finding out our financing wouldn't work, per the contract. This is a husband / wife owned LLC that can afford to purchase distressed homes for cash, and yet they are trying to make it extremely difficult for us to get our money back - money that we really need. They had us sign an agreement wanting us to remove a valid complaint filed with the BBB. We contacted the BBB and told them the complaint was resolved on good faith - it wasn't truly resolved, but if we did so, they said they would sign the termination agreement, and all we want and need is our money back. Now they are still refusing to sign the termination agreement. And who are they are doing this to? A veteran of the Marines. A former police officer. A hard-working couple who thought they had found a great house to live in within their budget.
