Description of Work: The job was installation of two keypad locks (computer controlled, multiuser, high use)on two different buildings. Because of unanticipated delays in our building schedule (our fault), the locks had to be installed long after purchased, each one at a different time. Chown was very patient with us. The installer was very professional, and helpful in explaining how to manage the system.

On our first visit to Chown, we purchased the cabinet, marble top, sink hardware, and matching bathtub hardware for a total of $1,600. The items were all special ordered and arrived in 2 weeks. Upon uncrating the cabinet we discovered that the cabinet fronts had been installed backwards and could not be repaired since holes for the European hinges were drilled into the front sides and could not be repaired. We also thought for the amount of money that we had spent, that the cabinet was of poor quality. We went back to Chown and arranged to have the cabinet, sink and marble top picked up for return because we did not want to risk purchasing another cabinet through the catalog. We intended to use the same hardware in a pedestal sink that we purchased at another store. Upon delivery of the pedestal sink we discovered that the faucet was not going to work when we did a test fit because our vintage medicine cabinet hung too low and interferred with the faucet. I went back to Chown to return the faucet and the tub spout and purchase a new faucet and matching tub spout. The original sales person I worked with was not there so I worked with a different sales person who was happy to help. When that second faucet arrived and I prefit that faucet I discovered that because of a lip around the outside perimeter of the pedestal sink that the base of the new faucet did not fit correctly. So I went back again to Chown to return that faucet and the second tub spout and worked with the same sales person from my prior visit. The sales person found a faucet that had a similar spout but different handles so I decided to go with that. Unfortunately when my wife arrived home that night and saw the faucet she did not like the handles at all and wanted me to get a different faucet. Today I took this faucet and the tub spout back with the intent to purchase a faucet with different handles and matching tub spout that would work. The first sales person saw me and came up to help. When she realized that I was returning a faucet that I didn't buy through her she left without saying anything to me. The second sales person was terse and refunded my money and promptly went onto something else without any offer to help me find a replacement faucet. Because I still wanted to purchase a faucet and tub spout from them, I looked around and found a faucet that would work and went to inquire if that faucet had a matching tub spout. The sales person that had refunded my money 5 minutes before told me that she could not work with me because she was expecting a customer to come in the store although no one was there at that moment. I gave her the Chown item number and asked her if she could look it up. She declined and said I would have to work with someone else. Since I was also ignored by the other sales people that were in the store I left and went to George Moylan plumbing supply about a mile away and within 5 minutes found a faucet which was the same faucet of the last one I had purchased at Chown but with different handles and that my wife liked. (I had taken a picture and emailed it to my wife to verify that she would like it.) I was happy to give George Moylan nearly $600 for the faucet and matching tub spout. OK, I realize I was a pain but there is such a thing as service with a smile. I am certain that I could have purchased that same faucet from Chown and would have been glad to do so because I did feel an obligation based on the unintended returns that had resulted. I will be doing further remodeling of another bathroom and kitchen butI will be reluctant to try Chown Hardware again.
Description of Work: This describes a series of encounters with Chown during my attempt to work with them during the remodeling of our main bathroom. From their perspective, I was probably the customer from h but that was never my attempt. My wife and I own a 90 year old home and wanted to redo our bathroom. We were serving as our own master contractor. We hired the tile guy and the plumber. We wanted to purchase a bathroom cabinet, marble top, sink, sink hardware and tub/shower hardware from Chown because of their reputation. I planned to install the cabinet, sink and sink faucet myself and was leaving everything else to the plumber. I have had prior experience with installing sinks and faucets and thought I could take this on. But I have never worked with the infrastructure that comes with a 90 year old house. Because of some unfortunate unplanned circumstances, I had to make a number of returns during my attempt to outfit our bathroom.

The choices are vast but the prices are high. No discounts here --- or not a greater discount then one can find on the internet. But the service is great and the people are friendly and they do a really good job making suggestions and knowing the products they offer in catalogs and on the floor.
Description of Work: They did not provide a service they are a place to order pulls and knobs and the like. They have an AMAZING showroom --- the best choices in town --- probably in the entire state.

Until we found Tony I was having a lot of problems. He quickly helped us find everything we needed and with expedited shipping we got everything in time. Our bathroom is beautiful now thanks to Tony's help and advice.
Description of Work: We remodeled our bathroom in a Victorian house. We had a lot of problems finding sinks, faucets and other necessary products to finish the project the way we wanted. Our orders didn't come in on time; couldn't find the type we wanted etc. with the companies suggested by our plumber. Then we heard about Chown and we were thrilled. Tony Perez, our hardware and plumbing consultant was amazingly helpful. He understood what we wanted and had great recall of all of the companies that make bathroom fixtures. He helped us find exactly what we wanted. He expedited shipping personally inspected everything we ordered, was available to answer questions when new problems arose and helped solve our problems by showing us products we didn't know existed. He made our remodel work!

Four years ago Kathleen Adams (they have 2 Kathleen's) helped my choose the fixtures for 3 new bathrooms that I installed in my home --- one a renovation and 2 newly added in a remodel. She searched through books, took me to the things with the best quality and told me that the toilets that I was thinking about were not work the money and sold me better quality at a lower price. I have been back this year and again she has come through for me in price, quality and lead time. I have purchased knobs, pulls, door handles, toilets, towel bars, tp holders, mirrors etc etc I wouldn't go anywhere else at this point and trust all of her guidance and help.
Description of Work: Kathleen Adams (they have 2 Kathleen's) at Chown is fantastic at her job. She can tell you the best product lines for any application and has come through for me in three different remodeling jobs. She will tell me which products I should spend more money on and where to put my savings. She saved me both time and money and ultimately has made me look like a star because my bathrooms and kitchens (in my old and new house) look amazing. You do not need to go anywhere else in town because Chown has access to everything and they have the best showroom in the city.

I went in, and when a salesperson was free, found the item fairly quickly. This is typical. Prices are fair. They are not high or low. Reliability of being able to find the item I'm looking for is very good.
Description of Work: I purchased a lock for an interior door in polished chrome. I couldn't find that lock at Home Depot and regular hardware stores. I've purchased several other items at Chown's, and when I need to be sure to find the hardware item I want, I go to Chown's first.
