The company is telling me they are no longer going to take care of customers for residential. They aren't going to do residential. The last time they came out, I'm supposed to have free parts and labor for ten years starting in 2012, they're not honoring their contract. The last time they came out they said they're calling it a service call because they can't send out the guys and not get any pay. The young man who came out said he couldn't do anything about it because it was up to his boss and that he was instructed that if you don't pay the $79.95 then we can't do the work. The man I talked to before, I don't know if he's the owner or manager, but his name was Ron. Today I spoke with Larry (sp?) Clark.

See above under "Services". Do's & Don't's? Check the reputation of any contractors you want to hire and don't believe their glowing advertisements.
Description of Work: I was not satisfied with the "services" by Comfort Experts, also known as 72 degrees Heating & Cooling and now Cavalry Heating provided on October 25, 2011 and billed in April 2012. They came out in response to their $72 advertisement for a tune up for my heating system, which was working just fine but I saw no harm in getting a tuneup. Their employee came out, completely dismantled my furnace and then apparently couldn't get it back together. He was here on a cold day from 9:15 AM to 9:45 PM, my furnace parts were spread all over, and the company finally sent out someone more knowledgeable, at about 8 pm. Their modus operandi apparently is to claim you having a leaking heat exchanger and it would be against the law to reassemble the furnace. (I found out much later that a neighbor was told the same story. Their attorney subsequently arranged to have their charge cancelled.) To sum it up, they installed some parts I can''t explain, charged me 738.95 which I signed off on in order to get those two strangers out of my house at a guarter to ten on a cold night. I'm left with the bill and two holes cut in my furnace and taped over. (They said the new parts wouldn't fit.) It was frankly a somewhat frightening experience. They failed to get the code numbers from the credit card so subsequently contacted me by telephone several times and I reiterated my complete dissatisfaction. The last contact was on February 2, 2012 when I spoke at length with Danielle in their office and she advised - after a 45 minute conversation - that the charges would be cancelled and would I consent to their using my comments for their in-house training - which I agreed to. My card was nevertheless charged in April 2012. They operate out of Longview, WA as well, and seem to change names frequently as I'm still getting mailings now under the name of Calvary Heating. In November 2012 they agreed to a refund in response to a BBB complaint but I've yet to see the money.

They installed a brand new furnace for me. However, it starting making a weird noise not to long after and there was water on the floor. They came out the next day and looked at it and said a part needs to be replaced on the furnace or the damage would void the warranty. The part that needed to be replaced was part of the new furnace and they want me to pay another $1800 to fix the part. In addition, they weren't supposed to charge me a service call and they ended up sending me a bill for $19.00

He was there for 3 hours and he bad-mouthed every other company around. He kept asking us about other bids we'd gotten, how much they were for, but we wouldn't tell. We were unable to get a bid out of him at that meeting. Any subsequent phone calls were not returned. Patrick also told us that a letter that we'd received in the mail offering $3000 off was incorrect and no longer valid.

Ethan arrived on time. He did a thorough check of the Air Conditioner and found that it needed a new fuse. He replaced it. He also cleaned the unit and checked pressures. He looked at our furnace and cleaned the filters. He gave us good advice on future care of the furnace and airconditioner.

This was a positive experience from start (the sale) to finish (the installation). During the sales process they spent a lot of time helping me understand my options and provided me with a lot of usual info on furnaces in general as well as home heating tips. The installers really seem to take pride in their work. They also provided me with a lot of good information in general and on my new furnace. They also performed minor service on one my existing vents and ducts at no extra charge. I had a contractor from another company in my basement about a month later for an unrelated service and while looking around my basement he commented that the new duct work (which Cavalry had installed) looked like it was very well done.
Description of Work: They replaced an ancient furnace in a house I'd just purchased with a new one, including some new duct work and chimney liner.

The service person had to reschedule but was good about working with us for our schedule, arrived on time, and was quite thorough, according to my wife, who was at home when he was there. He was so conscientious that he called me to discuss a wiring hazard that had nothing to do with our furnace, but that he had noticed when he was in that area of the basement. We did have a problem that night with the furnace. As far as I can tell, it was not caused by anything he did. What pleasantly surprised me was that I was able to reach someone at the firm in the evening, and she attempted to reach our service man. When she didn't succeed, she called back and offered to have someone come out the next day. In between, I managed to solve the problem, so we ended with my thanks.I definitely plan to call this firm again when we need service.

Getting a bid from this company was such a cumbersome event that I eventually gave up and went with the other bid. The scheduler insisted that it would take 1 1/2 hr to look over the situation and give a price for a replacement furnace. At best I would be given a 1 hr appointment window and it took 10 days before we could find a time that didn't require me to take 4 hours off of work. She insisted that all property owners would be present, it felt like I was about to get a pitch from a time share or encyclopedia salesman. The work is being done in a rental unit and they didn't seem to understand how to work with a business person. (get in, get out, give me a bid). When I got a call the night before the appointment to ask me to reschedule I decided it wasn't worth it. In contrast, the bid I'm going with, was very professional, met me promptly as agreed at 8AM, listened to what I wanted, inspected the venting, electrical, measured, gave me a nice Carrier brochure on the specific recommended furnace and we were finished at 8:15.

I very much appreciated his business-like demeanor. He went straight to work and explained all that he found which helped justify the need and cost for a new system. I have no reservations or fears that he made an excellent call to replace the whole system. I am an elderly lady with several disabilities and because he was concerned with leaving me suffering in the over heated home - he did all he could to help put me into a new system. I am on a limited budget but they worked with me and at a cost I could afford I am now able to live both comfortably and economically. To have to be ill and suffer from the heat when it's 4* hoter inside the home than outside - is truly a health hazard and very depressing. My lead HVAC installer Mark and his apprentice were 'the best'. Very professional, knowledgeable, and made sure they left all areas of work cleaner than when they came. This company can be proud of it's technicians and staff and you will have absolutelly NO worries once you put your needs in their hands. They are fair, reliable and just 'the best' of all the companies I have ever dealt with. I can't thank this company enough and will refer them to other friends and family.
Description of Work: The tech (Kevin) came out and inspected both my heater (31 yrs old) and the existing heat pump (19 yrs old). He did adequate checks for both and we all agreed that the whole system was just too old to continue trying to put bandaids on. He explained everything thoroughly and pointed out the spots of rust and mold which are a daily threat to our wellbeing.

Contacted owner and within one day had scheduled an appointment for an estimate. Came out and looked at old system and provided options for replacement. Answered all my questions about what would work best in my house. Once I decided on the heat pump, we then went through the various options. Did not try and push any particular option. Actually advised against several as they would not be necessary in a house my size. If my schedule had allowed, they were available to install within one week. Were willing to install on weekends if that would work best for my schedule. The complete install took one day. They took away the old furnace and cleaned up everything. When I arrived home from work, everything was clean and I had cool air for the first time in my house! The experience was very easy. Everyone was friendly and willing to answer any of my questions. I would recommend them to my friends and family.

After receiving a mailing from Cavalry, I contacted them for a heat pump replacement estimate. Two weeks later, after I called them four times, they still had not bothered to call me back for an appointment. I find their total lack of responsiveness unacceptable, and I called and left a message for the owner stating so. Update: after reading the owner's response, I can only state that it is not my responsibility to determine which part of his organization is responsible when I call asking for an estimate.

Response from Cavalry Heating & Cooling
Hi, my name is Jim McDonald and I’m the proud owner of Cavalry Heating and Cooling and Oregon-Aire, Inc. For 25 years, our success has been based on the great customer service we provide and the quality of employees that I’m so fortunate to work with every day. When I received the note that there was an unhappy customer of ours on Angie’s list, I responded immediately. I phoned the member, a very pleasant person, and found out that he had in fact contacted us to get pricing for the replacement of a heating/cooling unit for his floating home. Because this is actually a product line that our commercial division takes care of, his request was re-routed from our residential division (Cavalry Heating and Cooling) over to our commercial division (Oregon-Aire, Inc.), and one of our commercial consultants, Rich Dall, contacted the member and spoke to him about the work he wanted to have done. Rich indicated that during the phone conversation the member indicated that he was going to be out of town returning in a week or so, at which time they would get back together. Rich indicated that he thought that the member was going to contact him upon his return, and in my phone conversation, the member indicated that he was in fact waiting for a call from Rich and disappointed that he didn’t hear back from him. In any event, our goal is to respond immediately to our clients. As you can see from our other wonderful customers that have reported on Angie’s list, this situation was nothing other than an inadvertent communication failure. We certainly appreciate the member and the opportunity he wanted to give us.

We had a great experience with Cavalry Heating & Cooling. We had talked to some of their competitors and were impressed with the knowledge and professionalism displayed by Roscoe during our presentation. He helped us understand why our existing electric furnace and air conditioner had a hard time adequately heating and cooling our home and why they were so expensive to operate. After answering all our questions he recommended we replace everything including the overhead ductwork and vents. This turned out to be the correct decision as they showed us that our old ductwork leaked and was not properly sized. The installation was performed by Mark who mainly worked with the furnace and heat pump, and Bobby who mainly handled the ductwork. They were great. They were on time, and were conscious of cleaning up after themselves. They even requested our permission to work late one evening in order to complete one phase of the project so they wouldn't leave us without any heat. Obviously, Mark and Bobby take great pride in their work. Our system was a real challenge from a space standpoint but all work was very neat and looks like it has always been there.
Description of Work: Roscoe assessed our former system. He than took a series of measurments to determine the heat load. Than, based on a number of factors made the recommendation for the system that was installed. Mark and Bobby handled the rest. The project included the removal of the complete air handling system from the remote air conditioning compressor to the electric furnace and the ducting system housed in the attic. This was followed by the installation of a heat pump, a new air handler including emergency heat and air cleaner,as well well as new duct work and vents. Finally the installation of a new digital thermostat capable of operating the whole system in manual and automatic modes.

They were wonderful. They came out and tested my old heat pump and furnace and let us know that it was leaking carbon monoxide. They came out the next day to take out my old system and put in a new one. It is holding up really well. They could not have been nicer or more helpful, they cleaned up after themselves, and they even hauled away my old furnace. I will be using them again in the future.

I just want to thank Cavalry heating and cooling for introducing me to Roscoe, Mark and Bobby as our team for the furnace replacement at our home. From the time we opened the front door to Roscoe to closing the garage as Mark and Bobby were leaving, they displayed a quality of craftsmanship and proffesionalism, in both their spoken words and the action they provided. They completed the project just as they said they would, any and all issues were dealt with and resolved. It is woderful to encounter craft people who not only know their job, but make even the difficult look easy. It is obvious that they care not only about the customer, but their company as well. It is a great asset in todays work environment to have staffing that not only say what they are going to do, but they do it without hesitation. They can step back, look at their work and know they have done the best job they can for the customer, their company and themselves.

We hired Calvary Heating & Cooling to install a new furnace and air conditioner. Our home was built in 1975 and had the original equipment. My husband and I are obsessive compulsive and weary when it comes to hiring contractors and working with Calvary was a wonderful experience. The staff was on time, as promised, professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and respectful toward our home and belongings. Everyone was eager to explain the system and the safety features. They were the only company that did not try to upsell us into a high efficiency system. The system is quiet, our home is warm and we feel safe. We are very happy with the system and we would not hesitate to recommend them to our friends and family.
Description of Work: We hired Calvary Heating & Cooling to install a new furnace and air conditioner. They removed the old furnace and air conditioner and installed a new furnace, air conditioner, thermostat, UV light, and sealed all the vents under our home. We mentioned that our water heater was not performing and they checked that for free. After removing the furnace and air conditioner, they discovered many areas that needed repair and required additional hours of work. They did not charge us for this service.

Roscoe came out and gave me a run down on what would need to be done and what it would cost. He convinced me I had no need for what I requested and how it was smarter to go the route I chose. I got a call telling me the name of the crew who would be showing up. Very professonal in manner and work routine. Took out the old and put in the new with a new upgrade in filter maintanance.

After working in the construction business for 10+ years, i was impressed with the efficiency and final product of our install. The 2 installers that came to our home were clean cut and friendly. They got right to work and were very respectful of our home. The job was finished in just 1 day and we felt as though they treated our job as if it were their TOP priority. Before the installers left, they explained everything they had done for us and helped teach us how to use our thermostat. They even helped us put it on a schedule that was custom to what our family really needed. Our house was cleaner when they left than when they arrived and its hard to find service like that now-a-days! Overall, we were very happy to have done business with these guys. They gave us a great system at a really good price and we felt very taken care of!
