About us

C & L Custom Kitchens & Baths has been serving the Portland area since 1957. Over the years, we've built a solid reputation for creating custom cabinetry of uncompromising quality. Our workshop has been a neighborhood landmark since 1975. In fact, one of the first things new customers often tell us is "We've been driving by your shop for years." The company is owned by Steve and Loren Lutz, who literally grew up in the shop. The boys purchased the company from their father in 2002, and the rest, as they say, is history. Al is the estimator and designer, and brother Steve is the master builder and installer. Both are supported by a friendly, dedicated staff who shares their dedication to creating only the finest custom cabinetry.

The appointment date was never met. They failed to follow up on the agreement of an appointment. There is no excuse with all the electronics available to us.
Description of Work: Actually nothing. About two weeks ago, I made an appointment with Steve for July 1, 2014 for 8:30 a.m. I called on June 30 to confirm the appointment. Steve asked me if I won't mind changing it to 8. I said fine. I gave him my address and directions to come to the home with my home number again. Today, July1, no Steve and the time is now 10:32. My take on this is - I think I was saved from having a bad encounter. Things happen for a reason. I certainly would not recommend this outfit to anyone. Maybe they do a good job but I don't think I would be one of those people benefiting from their services.

The benches and cabinets look amazing!! They are exactly what we wanted. They are built out of cherry and are extremely solid. The installation was first-rate as well.
Description of Work: The previous owner of our house had C&L build all of the cabinets for the kitchen. Next to the kitchen is a 11x6 area where we wanted to have a dining nook installed with built-in benches and overhead cabinets. We wanted the benches and cabinets to match the kitchen, so we hired C&L.

Mr. Lutz came to give a bid. I took time from my job and we spent about half an hour. That was over two months ago. No bid was submitted, and after not returning my three calls, I have to go with another place. If a company can't even return your calls like this, how can you trust it? Very very disappointed.
Description of Work: We were doing a kitchen remodel with custom cabinets.

This job was quite small for this shop. They said they could fit this in between other jobs but it could take a couple of months. Since I was not in a hurry this was not a problem. Total time was four months. Seemed like a long time but this did not cause me any problems. Quality of work was good. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Description of Work: Fabricated a paint ready custom mantel of my design. Also made a single kitchen cabinet to match existing cabinet design and stain.

C & L KITCHENS IS USED TO HIGH END CABINETS, BUT THEY WERE ABLE TO PUT TOGETHER VERY NICE CABINETS AT A VERY GOOD PRICE BECAUSE THE CABINETS IN MY GRANDMOTHER'S HOUSE WERE JUST TOO WORN AND WE WERE SELLING THE HOME.

I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH MY EXPERIENCE WITH C & L KITCHENS. WE ACTUALLY USED THEM BECAUSE OF A REFERRAL GIVEN TO US BEFORE. THEY CAME TO OUR HOUSE TO DISCUSS EXACTLY WHAT WE WOULD WANT AND WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED WHEN THEIR PLAN TOTALLY WAS DIFFERENT FROM OURS. I WOULD DEFINITELY USE THEM AGAIN.

THE OWNER OF THE COMPANY CAME TO OUR HOME AND SELECTED THE CABINETS THAT WOULD BEST FIT OUR SPACE. HE WAS EXCEEDINGLY PROFESSIONAL AND THE KITCHEN THAT WE ENDED UP WITH COULD HAVE COME OUT OF THE PAGES OF GOOD HOUSEKEEPING.
