Description of Work: This was an urgent situation......an old very tall tree was leaning and ready to fall on my neighbor's house. One large limb had already broken her power line which emergency PGE came and re-attached that evening. I was able to reach Pete Botke the owner of Bud's that evening and he arranged for his crew to be at my home by 7:30 the following morning. They tackled the job and averted a potential disaster. They have done three other big jobs for me and they are outstanding. Their prices are very fair, their work is excellent and their crew is exceptional. They are not only proficient at removing diseased trees but know how to prune and beautify healthy trees. They are licensed, bonded and insured. You won't regret hiring the professionals at Bud's. I hope you won't let one unfortunate review stop you from getting a bid from Bud's. You won't be sorry.

Pete came out to give me an estimate. I had already had two other estimates, but he had a different take on the way the gigantic cherry should be pruned, which had serious safety implications. Being an extremely large multi-trunked tree, he told me that removing the entire limb would weaken the tree, making it more likely for large branches to fall (all of which were directly over my house), and recommended pruning it in a more strategic way. They pruned the giant cherry tree, and removed the 300 to 400 pound cedar limb (Pete had warned me not to go anywhere near the area until the work was done), and removed the debris ,all to my satisfaction. incidentally, Pete is a very nice guy, and gave me a lot of other information about the trees, which I appreciated.
Description of Work: Trimmed my neighbor's cherry tree back from banging against my house, and removed a dangerous very heavy limb from my neighbors Deodora Cedar, and removed the debris.

The quality of the tree work seems very good. My issue is related to everything else. The guys took no care at all to what was on the ground. They let branches just fall anywhere and trampled multiple plants, broke some yard decorations, and smashed the small fences that I have around plantings to keep the dog out. When I had the estimater out, I asked if I needed to move anything or get anything ready for the trimmers and he told me "no" they would take care of it. So I certainly would have moved these things but was told it wasn't necessary. When all was done I was left with a backyard that looked totally ransacked. I also didn't appreciate the demeanor of the workers who seemed surly at best. When the trimmers arrived I opened the door and wasn't greeted, just met with weird silence. I had to ask, "You are here for the trees?" I couldn't wait to get them out of my yard. The trees look good, but I wouldn't want to deal with all that again.
Description of Work: Thinned out 2 large trees in the back yard, cut and stacked the limbs for firewood.

We had Pete out to give us an assessment and provide a quote on a large sick cherry tree. Apart from being extremely nice and friendly, we really appreciated his honesty and advice. He is a "wealth of knowledge" and took time to talk to us about all kinds of things in our garden (not just trees). We look forward to working with him in the future.

I scheduled the onsite estimate using their website, which was very convenient. I received a call to confirm the appointment within a business day. The arborist was on time (actually a few minutes early) for the estimate, which only took a few minutes. He also was helpful in giving me some pruning advice with one of my other trees. Since it was a small job he was able to get a crew to my house that same day to take down the tree. They made quick work of it (it took about 30 minutes) and did a good job cleaning up the leaves and other debris. I asked them to leave the large wood in 1-foot pieces -- they did a pretty good job cutting them to that size. They left a pile that I later stacked. They were a bit later than they said (by about 45 minutes) to grind the stump a few days later. That was a quick job (15 minutes). The grinder left a pile of wood chips. If you don't want the chips, make sure to tell them. I was able to use the wood chips elsewhere in my yard. After the stump grinding was complete I provided a check for the amount of the estimate, and that was that!
Description of Work: They provided an onsite estimate, removed a 25-foot tall plumb tree, and ground the stump.

They were very punctual and arrived first thing in the morning. Pete reviewed the work order with me and they started the job. It took them 6 hours to complete and clean up. I was very pleased with they job they did and with what they charged. From other quotes it could easily have been twice as much. I would definitely hire them again and recommend them to others.

Pete Botke, owner & head arborist of Buds Expert Tree Care, Inc., has got to be the best in town, a true master of arboriculture. This man not only knows his trees amazingly well, he actually cares about them. In addition to being smart and kind, he is also the epitome of professional: he's prompt & efficient, & his prices are fair. The work he and his crew does is exceptional. I've had Pete come out 3 different times. He's always taken time out his often insanely-busy schedule to talk with me and find a way to take care of my tree issues. Check out his website & give him a call. (He'll probably answer his phone personally!) I promise you won't be disappointed. :-)
Description of Work: (I do not feel comfortable filling in the cost.) I've had several large old bushes removed, stumps ground, limbs of trees removed, and trees trimmed.

i called and arranged for an estimate. i could not be available during the day but my fresh from school daughter could. pete came, gave her the estimate which was right in there with others so no problems there. pete was uncomfortable coming through my house to the back door to see the tree (i had no time to get the gate key before he came out). i called pete and scheduled the work asking if they could do the job sooner that would be great - i knew full well that this was no time to prune my stone pit tree pruned so wanted to take the brunt as soon as we could. pete graciously called to advise that they could get us in sooner. okay. so far so good. again i informed pete that i would ensure that one or the other of my adult children be home to not only open the gate but to pay him when the work was complete. so far so good. pete and another fellow arrived bright and early on the morning of the job. while the tree was being pruned pete wanted it looked at and okayed. my daughter had not anticipated this and as it were i was running late for work so she asked me to take a look. i was irritated. why take a look? i wasn't even supposed to be a part of the deal besides paying! pete insisted that the work be checked. i looked out the window and "checked" whatever that means. i gave my daughter my response. okay. the above bit was a bit annoying. if i am not supposed to even be home and we had not discussed the "having a look piece" then what's up? now pete goes weird. i am running late and frantically trying to get myself together and out the door when my daughter comes to the door looking odd. she tells me that pete just came to the front door and said, "i am getting a weird vibe from this deal. why don't we just call the whole thing off". SAY WHAT???? my daughter restates what pete said to her saying that he was very unprofessional and asked that he be paid prior to grinding the stump!!!! i am sooooo not feeling this drama! i have a meeting first thing, i am trying to get out of the door, my daughter is more competent than most 50 year olds and she knows not to bother me with kibbles and bits. now i hear my friend who is living on our lower level (and has NOTHING to do with any of this) trying to talk to pete about getting the work done and how i am a responsible homeowner yadda yadda! when i hear this i am ready to blow a gasket! i am forced to come to the door in my bathrobe to find out what in the h*** is going on!!! i fume to the door to have pete give me a bunch of blah blah and yadda yadda about needing to pick up some other piece of equipment and he just thought that if he could get paid now - YOU HEARD IT RIGHT - PRIOR TO COMPLETING THE JOB AND GOING OFF SITE NO LESS - he would appreciate it. i said no. i reminded him of what our agreement was to which he essentially launched in to the piece of equipment that would be sometime later etc... none of which i wanted to hear. we made a deal. stick to your word! why didn't pete tell me he wanted to be paid before the job was done. i would have, obviously, said no. there were too many other options to deal with this. i did not even begin to get in to his remark to my daughter about my home giving him a "weird vibe" - nutville, right? why didn't he say that when he came out to bid the job in the first place? or better yet why not give an outlandish bid that no thinking person would have said yes to in the first place. anyway... i did not appreciate the way that deal went down at all and would NEVER use this company again even if it does turn out to be fabulous. whose got the "weird vibe" going? sheesh!
Description of Work: one stone pit tree was pruned and one stump was ground. i said n/a re both as i have yet to see how the stone pit will fair and the efficacy of the stump will be foretold over the next months if any shoots pop up or not...

They came the same day that I called! The raccoon had returned a second time to make a second hole in roof so I was very appreciative that they could come that same day to cut the tree back. AND without gouging me with exorbitant emergency costs as the other tree pruning companies tried to do... Not only that but Pete offered to cut back some branches from a volunteer tree for FREE (without even being asked)!!! Now that's service that I really found amazing so this company is one I will certainly contact again with confidence.

We have been using Bud's service since 2011. We have lived in our home for 20 years and have had other tree services prior to Bud's. Pete and his team were fantastic. The jobs together were finished in about 7 hours. The Hawthorn was completely dead and was adjacent to the house, and was also close to some suspended Comcast cables, but it came down safely and quickly. The monkey puzzle had a ton of dead limbs and is very challenging to work on given the sharpness of the spikes. Pete's guy was working 60 feet up in the cherry picker, right in the middle of these sharp limbs. We half expected his blood to come raining down on us but he made it look easy. The two street trees were thoroughly diseased, unsightly as well as a public safety hazard. Buds brought them down efficiently, ground the stumps, and then Pete planted three beautiful coral bark maple saplings, which he staked and mulched. He provided us with guidance on their care as well as tips on how to keep our monkey puzzle healthier in the future. The Buds team was responsible, thorough, cleaned up after themselves, and was exceedingly friendly and accommodating throughout. They explained the logic behind their recommendations and were great about answering all our questions. Our experience with Pete was unreservedly positive and we recommend his company wholeheartedly. We feel very fortunate to have found Buds and have urged several of our neighbors to hire him as well. Note to self: get business cards from Buds to give out to neighbors...
Description of Work: Removed two dying 30-ft plum trees and several smaller weed shrubs from the parking strip, ground the stumps, and replaced them with three coral bark maple saplings, staked and mulched. Removed dead 40-ft Hawthorn from next to house, and ground the stump. Removed a large amount of hazardous deadwood from our monkey puzzle tree.

We'd been calling tree services but no one was calling us back, so I went back to Angie's List and sorted the search results based on proximity to my house, hoping that someone nearby would be more likely to squeeze us in. Pete called us back promptly and made an appointment to give us an estimate the next day. He showed up precisely on time and we went through the tasks and I was immediately struck by his straightforwardness, knowledge, and dry humor (personality means a lot to me, life is short and I don't want to work with jerks, period). The price he quoted surprised me in a good way. I knew I didn't need to get other quotes. I wanted the work done soonest and I liked Pete tremendously and his quote was lower than I expected and that was that. From our conversation I knew where his values lay. His emphasis on neighborhood, stewardship, and what he called "karma" with regard to our stewardship of the nature on our properties really resonated with me. Why hire just a dude with a chainsaw when you can partner with a guy like Pete? We scheduled the work to be done a week later. Then he knocked on my door five minutes later and told me he'd had a cancellation and would I like the work done right away. Hallelujah! While waiting for his crew to come round we chatted about some other trees on my property, their present health and future needs, and my original instinct that Pete was going to be my arborist was confirmed. His crew arrived and they started right in, took care of business efficiently and professionally. Man am I happy when I see true professionals doing their thing. Worth every penny. Pete said he'd be back within a few days with his stump grinder, but in fact he turned up early the next morning and took care of the three stumps, leaving my yard and sidewalk cleaner than they were before. We've already made plans for his team to remove a dying Hawthorn and prune my monkey puzzle tree this winter (not an easy job!), and Buds will be my go-to tree service going forward. We love Buds and you will too.
Description of Work: Removed a 20-ft walnut tree that was growing in a bad spot, along with its stump and another stump near it, removed two 25-ft holly trees that were being bullies in a stand of maples, ground a medium-sized stump from a tree that had fallen over in a storm last year, and removed two large piles of miscellaneous tree debris that'd been growing in my yard for months. He also provided a ton of useful advice about future tree maintenance projects and assessed the health of numerous other trees on my property.

Mr. Pete and his crew came out to remove a tree in my yard. I was disappointed in the quality of the work that they did. Besides removing my tree they took out a couple of rhododendrons that I had planted. What aggravated me the most though was the lack of clean up and professionalism by the company. I?ve used some tree services in the past and at the end of the job they would clean up and put things back the original state 1) They removed part of a fence that I have to keep out dog in the yard to haul away the debris and when completed they did not return it to the original state. 2) After they completed the work there was leaves and sticks all over the yard and my deck that I had to clean up. 3) They removed a composter dumping the contents on the ground and tossed it on its side about 20 feet away to give them some room. Again I had to clean this up after they left. When I called Pete and asked him if he was coming back to clean up and put things back to original state he said he did not have that in the budget for a return trip and that he was barely making any money on the job. I pressed him on cleaning up the site. He said he was going to be out town this week but would come back next week. He asked me to give him a call in 8 days to remind him and see if he could come back. I would not recommend this company.

This project was a success from my first phone call to Pete at Bud's E.T.S. My call was returned promptly; my questions were answered, and an appointment for an estimate was set up. Pete arrived promptly for our appointment, quickly understood what we wanted done, offered suggestions on how to best do the work, gave us several options on how to handle our large, old camellias, and provided a fair quote at the end of our meeting. the pruning was scheduled for today; Pete and the crew arrived on time, reviewed the project with me, set to work quickly, checked with me during the project to make sure the pruning was being done within the parameters discussed, cleaned up completely, and had a final conversation with me to make sure the pruning was completed to my satisfaction. This was one of the very best experiences I've had with a contractor--completely professional with superior customer service. I unreservedly recommend Bud's Expert Tree Service and will use them again myself.
Description of Work: The 2-person crew of Bob and Dean pruned a large Maple tree and two very large camellia shrubs--nearly trees--at our condominium. The work was done quickly, safely (their safety and the safety of the surrounding property and residents), cleanly, and as requested and negotiated.

I wouldn't hesitate to contact Bud's in the future. Living in St. Helens, it's kind of tough to find companies that will travel from Portland/Beaverton to my area. Pete was very responsive and came out to my house within a few days to quote the job. I requested two quotes: one to prune the oaks and add a cable to one tree; and one to remove the three trees. I decided to have the trees pruned rather than removed. The work was scheduled and the crew arrived on time. They were courteous and respectful of my home and property. Once the work was completed, the yard was cleaned up and all the debris was hauled away. I am very pleased with the work that was done.

I still use them whenever I need any help with my trees. They removed a huge tree; it is called an ailanthus tree, which is an invasive species here in Portland. This tree was probably about 40 feet high at least, may be 50 feet. It was definitely the biggest tree on my property. The problem is that they are an invasive species, they grow really fast. It has been there a long time along the property line between my house and the house next door. It shaded too much of my neighbor's yard, plus it was endangering his power lines. I didn’t really want that because I have a lot of trees on my property anyway. Actually my neighbor and I went in together on having it taken down. I did have a couple of other bids that were way way much more than Buds Expert Tree Care Inc did it for me. They came out and did it in one day. They had two guys on it and he took it down in like from 9 o'clock till 4 o'clock in the afternoon and they were here. They took the whole thing down and they also cut the wood up into firewood size pieces, and they chipped up the branches and left them out for me for mulch. They were very professional and very nice. They cleaned up everything that I asked them to do. I actually wanted them to leave a lot of the debris for mulch and for firewood and they did it all. If I would recommend them to a family member, I would say don’t call anybody else. I was concerned about of course if they were practicing good work safety practices, because they are up in the tree, hanging on lanyards and they did that. They didn’t try to take any shortcuts or anything. They were up there and they did it all with good work safety practices. I have actually used them in the past and they were referred to me by a group here in town called Friends of Trees. I have been using Buds Expert Tree Care Inc. for the last 10 years or so, keeping my trees and my property trimmed up.

Very good experience. Recently purchased my home and was looking for some basic advice on the kinds of trees I have, and their general condition and maintenance needs. Called Pete and he was very responsive, was able to come out later that week and do a quick inventory of our trees and a free estimate for pruning several of them, which I anticipate we'll hire him to do. He even helped with advice on some shrubs, which aren't his area of work, and maintenance that I could do myself. Very helpful and friendly - I would certainly recommend him.

We had already received a quote from another vendor for the same job. Since they recently delivered highest-quality tree services on a project for our real estate agent, she referred us to Bud's for a second opinion. It turned out they were in our neighborhood when we called and were happy to pop over the same day to evaluate the situation. They confirmed tree removal as the best course of action, and were able to leave a quote for the costs behind. Since the costs were comparable to our original quote, and we had a strong level of commitment in place already, we ended up selecting the other vendor. But, Bud's level of knowledge and professionalism was apparent, and the extra peace of mind they delivered was invaluable. If you are in need of the services of a certified professional arborist, I highly recommend contacting Bud's Expert Tree Care. If their work aligns with the interactions we had, am certain you will be very pleased.

It was awesome. They did it just by climbing into the tree and taking it down 1 piece at a time. They got it all done in 1 day and were extremely professional and safe. They cut up the pieces into firewood, and did not damage anything on the property. The price was very good for the amount of time they spent on the job. The workers were very respectful as well. We consulted Angie's list for tree removal outfits and got 2 good referrals. Both bids were for $900 to remove the branches and cut the wood to fireplace length and leave it in the back yard. Both were recommended for care of other items and plants in yard that could be damaged in the removal. Pete and two other guys showed up at about 8:30am and set to work. They were done by about 2pm. Minimal damage was done to flowers and shrubs below in spite of the size of the job. They did good cleanup afterwards. Stump left was cut low and level. I picked up chips with my lawn mower.

The entire process was easy and pain free. Pete is a knowledgable arborist. His crew is well trained and of good spirit. I never felt any pressure from Pete regarding this or other projects we discussed. He truly seemed interested in giving us what we wanted and not pushing us to do more than that. His advice was thourough and professional. This is a great company.
Description of Work: The owner, Pete, came by and gave an assessment of trimming and/or removal of a large, overgrown pear and apple tree between our house and the neighbors. We were getting some painting done soon and at the very least needed these pruned heavily away from side of house/roof. Pete gave us an estimate on removing the trees as well as just trimming. Removal was the best option. We split the cost of the basic trimming (250 each) with the neighbor paying balance as the trees were on his property. The crew (Dean and Bob) showed up just as scheduled and made quick, efficient work of it. They were professional in approach and were careful not to damage surroundings unduly. They removed debris, cleaned the area and stacked the wood to be left.
