My experience with them went okay. She had a few problems with equipment and personnel. But ultimately, we got the clean-up done. It was a couple of days worth of work and lots of trips to the recycle center with debris. It could have gone a little bit better, but it was okay. One of their vehicles had gotten wrecked and there were some other issues, but all in all, it turned out okay. We chose them because we had bought a Big Deal and they looked like they would be able to do the work. They did the work, but I don't know if I'd go back to them.

It was not great. In fact I had them come back to do some cleanup work. I don?t remember if there was an additional cost because it was a long time ago but I don?t think I paid more than the big deal. They tried to make it right and they were very accommodating about that but I just felt that they did not do a good job. I would not use them again.
Description of Work: I used the big deal of Aries Yard Work. My understanding was they are going to weed my yard area and clean it out. They did not really take the roots out, they just cleared the area without taking the roots out.

Everything turned out well for the most part. They did a good job with the weeds, and they acted professionally while doing the work. The only issues were that they tried to do a lot of upselling, and it took a while for them to send someone out because they were busy.

I received an estimate from this provider that was way more expensive than similar services I had paid for from other businesses in the past. I found the owner to be nice but didn't have an explanation for why the services were so expensive. She also cut the cost by several hundred dollars when I said I couldn't afford the price, which made me completely loose faith in her estimate.

There was an explanation which was based on the work you wanted done. You didn't care for the cost because you wanted a cheap laborer to do all the work involved. I cut costs when you called to ask what would be the cost if you scaled back...considerably..on work. Hence, the price cut. I won't even go into the scope of work you wanted done which would have included equipment to clear out the massive amounts of blackberry out of a long, wide, sloped trench with rocks and other debris and the yard itself with overgrown plant material and an RV parking concrete slab covered as well...and the list goes on. Yes, hundreds of dollars with fuel for assorted tools and labor. And to have accommodated with my time to for a consultation...

Laura was very friendly and talkative. Her crew worked hard, in hot weather, to do the work described above. I had neglected the yard, so it was a lot of work, I know. I'll never know whether it was market-value worth the $1900 I paid for it ($200 was the Angie's List coupon, so an additional $1700), as it's hard for me to calculate outside a by-the-hour pay rate, but the yard was certainly overgrown to a large extent and they did removed and haul A LOT of debris. They were originally going to come over three or four days but were able to do the work in only two...the second day shorter than I expected. I suppose this was more convenient, as I could set about starting the garden I had hoped to establish in a more inviting yard, but it did leave me wondering about the cost.
Description of Work: They cleaned up my lot-and-a-half yard and a little stretch along one side of my home, taking out trees, restoring a little stone path, poisoning blackberry vines (only once, I'm afraid; had thought they'd come back and give them one more blast). It was a two-day clean-up after some time of neglect. They also moved some plants for better landscaping, and gave me suggestions of what to plant, and where.

She came out to my house to look at what I wanted done and then said it would cost $800. I asked her to just come out and do whatever they could in the timeframe I had pre-purchased with the Big Deal, but she refused. I felt like all she wanted to do was up-sell me. They completed no work.

Incorrect. I DID NOT refuse. I said it may be best if you got someone closer to you since YOU decided NOT to have all the work done; and originally it was for me to give you a COMPLETE assessment of the property. In light of the VERY MINIMAL amount of work you wanted to pay for I thought it was in your favor to offer the refund. Never mind the fact that I kept in total communications with you and your husband while you were out of town..country , I believe. AND..I went out to your house TWICE from Portland. AND, never charged you any road time for it. AND, was completely available to communications with you. BTW: the cost was inclusive of materials such as mulch, some pavers for muddy area by backyard gate entry, weed control for hard surfaces, fabric pinned in for planter beds and new azaleas you wanted to put in that I was picking up for you. And the trimming up of plants. Oh...yes, fertilizer/weed gone for the "lawn" you were trying to salvage which edges were ruined from someone spraying with Round-Up or something as an edging tool that I was going to help fix. Good luck in all you do.

unfortunately, the day the work was to happen, Laurie, the owner, had an injury that meant she couldn't work that day. However, I learned that the crew of 3-4 others that she told me she would be bringing was instead going to be just her AND when she left messages explaining when the work could happen instead, she spoke only of bringing one other worker. Our agreement about her help was of multiple workers for multiple hours and she later denied this was the agreement. Clearly, what she and her team are about is ongoing contracts. I bought the Big Deal in order to see her and her them work, what they could do and offer me.

The main problem was that instead of pulling up the long grass that had grown between the pavers and in the bed, they just weed-wacked it. When we went over what was to be done, there was a moment when she sounded as if they might weed-whack instead of pull, and so I asked. She told me they'd pull. But they didn't. It looked pretty bad, and I had to do it myself, and it was harder since there wasn't much to grab. I'm not saying necessarily that I didn't get my money's worth -- maybe they weren't able to do what was agreed on for the price. but i was quite annoyed.

The grass and weeds and moss on all those pavers and areas surrounding the planter beds (and in the raised planters) all the way to 2 patios and on the heavily matted paths were pulled AND string-lined. Your yard was very overgrown with that and rizomes from a huge quince tree that had been removed. Not to mention the great job of pruning that large fig tree AND touching up the cherry next to it. We took up by the roots invasive ground cover and saved some of the plants you wanted that were CHOKED OFF with vines and assorted overgrowth. Roses, blueberry, Iris, and a bazillion tiny bulbs of other flowers we were careful with. Careful to not tread on the few asparagus sprouting up randomly. All debris carted off. Hauling it from the back to the front by the 52 gallon sized containers and tarps because no truck or trailer could access the back yard or get near it. It is a wonderful, antiqued yard with a sense of romance and peaceful reading that was left unattended for a long time. You stated you were too busy to get to it and understood that we could only do so much for what you were going to spend. The quince rizomes-and there was A LOT,pulled up by the roots! By hand trowel and shovels- was your concern. Because it was not properly stump ground and treated. Cleaning up the weeds and grasses was a project in of itself! Pull up all that grass by hand??? From under pavers and sprouting out from under planter boxes and between plants and in them? The string-lining got into areas and down to the dirt to make it cleaner and easier. Moss scraped up to the point it was almost non-existent when done. A path revealed where once WAS one. I certainly remember you talking about the good work and how hard it was to keep rizomes down. By the way..they too were tall and thick and spread out to many feet around from the stump. Four people/5 hours and all that debris removed. You received beyond good work for a yard that was so overgrown with so much going on.

She was trying to up sale the Angie's List coupon, and I only wanted the work done that would be covered by the coupon.I knew what it would take to clean the area from doing it myself several times. She made me aware that they only got half the value of the coupon, and Angie's List got the other. It made me feel uncomfortable. It was $200 of yard work for $99. What does this mean?? Angie's List shouldn't let merchants list this vague format. An hourly rate I can understand, but $200 for $99 is very misleading.

Yes, up selling is part of doing business. It's called sales. When you are in the check out line why do you think the magazines and end-cap products are there? Why do you think "sale" items are partnered with compatible products that are not on sale? Angie's List is no different. They facilitate the sale of coupons so that the vendors may have an opportunity to up sell their services/products and the member has a discount on some services. I remember you well. We spoke for awhile about the front yard work. Then you took me around to a very large backyard with huge piles of dirt from an on-going project. We spoke of the best feasible way to remove some of it and move the rest to level the area. With equipment. Much other organic debris was still around. We spoke of our teenagers (you have a son and I do too) and the teenagers motivations to help around the house.LOL! We walked the right side yard to front of house where a long trench was already dug to put in a path. The work was halted because homeowners hit a gas line causing firetrucks, gas company and assorted other personnel to respond. You also mentioned issues with the retaining wall at its foot that that you and the neighbor were in disagreement about. The path was for sister who has difficulty walking and you wanted to accommodate her on visits so she can navigate your property on her own. I recommended a contractor to do that particular work. I spent much time with you and you were not charged for my time. As far as AL taking half..they take 30-35% of the sale of coupons. In addition, they receive monthly advertising fees and membership dues from customers. Sales. I'm the one who is uncomfortable! It pinches the wallet to do/stay in business. I do remember the conversation about that coming up when you asked how the $99 translates into $200 and what else you can get for that price. Hence, the walk around and discussion of potential costs for various things you were interested in getting done over time. Anyone who has done business with me knows that if there are potential other projects to be done, and the homeowner wants me to do it, that I accommodate budgets even more so.MY TRUST in the homeowner that it is a valid request and not a carrot hung out for free advice and work to not materialize. You kindly inquired how I can stay in business with such a great deal. We spoke of costs to you and me. AND...mention that your husband was not to know. He was not wanting to spend the money you wanted to spend even for the $99 deal. I performed the work when neither of you were to be around. Your request. Except your son. He came home and thought it was a good idea to have me there and we..I had a helper $$$ with no additional cost to you..were doing a great job. He mentioned he had enough to do with the back yard dirt piles! I cleaned up the driveway and put all debris in a small pick up you have for you to haul away the debris. I did a great job. Don't you remember telling me that? BTW:the email address you gave me was for your husband to not find out about the work till after the fact when you could convince him that it was money well spent. My good work helped support that..per you! Happy Holidays! PS..the day the work was done there was a car chase involving several law enforcement vehicles, blocked street and a man hunt. Your neighbor-retaining wall rival-came out and we talked about the state of the neighborhood since he moved in many years ago. From NY originally. Seemed like a nice man. He mentioned the wall and property line issues. It was a crisp, sunny day. January 17th, 2013. 9AM I started work. Great yard work day.

Hello Hello! Thank you for the A report. Yes, it was a large job and the find of the patio and steps up to it was fantastic. Although I think I bit my lip when my shovel hit that first hidden step! All good as it was unearthed and turned out to be lovely. When all was done you sat down on the bench in the backyard and were overwhelmed with the outcome. Happy and so looking forward to getting in plantings and herbs and having your mother visit to see the expansive "new" yard. I still feel good about the work done. May 15-17, 2013. Two 1/2 days of it.To have a response such as yours is truly an ultimate Thank You. We talked of the different area of your yard for different uses, how moving the rocks onto the slope next to the plants made it transform. I am glad we were able to clear the ivy off from the little cute blue wooden shed. Stinging bees and all! What a day THAT was! A large hive in, under and around the shed. Once they calmed down it was OK. Member-names cannot be mentioned- I hope you did get to do all you wanted to do with your property. It is a terrific hidden piece of land with so much character and potential. All the best with it and your family. ~Laura Iris

It was okay. They kind of railroaded me a little bit. The work they did was good but I wouldn’t use them again. They ended up doing more work and the lady that runs the place, I thought she was kind of weaseling me a little bit. She said they did more work and I need to pay more. I told them that I only want them to do $99 worth of work. So it was kind of a fail on their part. The responsiveness was really bad.

Thank you member for saying we did more work. Originally, your wife wanted quite a bit done. When you came home you whittled it down to a front slope that was thick with grass and weeds, and plantings that needed to be worked around. Material was deeply rooted and soil was very wet; which slides shovels and feet. No railroading here. Not my style. The additional cost was for disposal of sod (disposal in coupon details). Quite a bit of heavy, wet, muddy material. You and I did have extensive conversation about other projects on your property and you were looking for someone similar to the previous, personal, worker you had. After you disclosed to me what kind of person you were looking for, I politely declined stating I didn't think it would be a good fit. You only wanted to use the coupon and I agreed. For the type of work and conditions-and you did state we did more work and it was good- you received a good deal. Glad you think you slighted me out of funds. Think about it: since you stated we did more work and did a good job wouldn't I know this? And it was agreed to be at coupon value only. I do good work. I have fair prices. I consider the individual homeowners. I don't feel slighted out of funds. Glad you think you didn't get taken by me..."weaseling". Good luck with your property.

The owner of the company is difficult and stressful to deal with. Her business ethics are dubious at best. I would strongly recommend you try a different company. Updated 1/14: I mistakenly read Laura's rebuttal to my review written above. I was shocked at the sheer amount she wrote and how much was completely false. As a result, I feel the need to send a warning to everyone considering her company: BEWARE. Laura will use "bait and switch" tactics to get you to pay her more money. If you choose not to do this, she simply won't show up. I'm disappointed with Angie's List for sponsoring this woman for a Big Deal. I wonder what type of vetting process they have? I am offended I had to deal with this unstable person and the stress she caused in my life.

You are angry because AL decided NOT to refund you after they learned of the way you attempted to bilk ME out of services and labor. I was working on your property when you and that man..your partially dressed "partner"..who materialized with some half heart attempt to cover YOUR tracks for what you tried to dd- appeared and you started to rant. Yes, rant. Here is how it went down: When I arrived to give a cost for the work you wanted done on the exceptionally large Laural (two runs of it) you wanted trimmed. You stated you could not afford it. You also showed me the cutting on it your sister did when she visited. An area was mangled-I saw the damage. She left a mess for you to fix and went back to Seattle(your words). You also informed me of your very bad health issues, a pending messy expensive divorce and if you got to keep the house. I tried to help by giving-yes, FREE..some labor and costs. Listen up here...when you came outside you were quiet, frail looking, acting the part of a woman who was wounded, hurt, not healthy and wanting her home to be somewhat nice on the outside because it is a much older Portland home(100-/+years?) you wanted to keep and continue to remodel. I stayed over an hour going over some of the things you wanted done over time and when your money came in from divorce/other places. Your health issues..which I will not disclose, were sad. Which you blamed on your soon to be ex husband. WE agreed on what to do. When I arrived on work day you came charging out of the house(rant) about how you expected certain equipment/tools and what I should do, etc etc. AND the original work and ideas were done by that "partner" of yours. BTW: according to you; had no one to help or were involved with and your husband would be furious if another man was around. I reminded you of how the work was going to get done(no $$$) and asked about the work already done by boyfriend. You tried to side step and tried to get me to work on a more expensive project for the same price at COUPON ONLY! FACE VALUE. You already had NO added costs because of your situation. "Partner" backed off and said he did not know anything and scampered off when you got loud. Go figure. When I started to leave the debacle you created I told you to get a refund and not to contact me again. MY loss in time/fuel/labor/income. I did say I would look into it and contacted you to say AL said you have to contact first. They already knew what happened. It was denied. BECAUSE I DID arrive and start to work on agreement we had until you came out after I rang bell to ask what happened to property. That is when boyfriend and you came outside and started nonsense. ***In my profile I give consideration to special cases, military/seniors. At my discretion I considered you and your situation. That morning when I arrived you were VERY vocal/vitriolic, looking pretty darn healthy and bounced around. NOT frail at all. What a miracle! ***FYI to all who read this and other responses. She gave me an estimate and stated that she would have a breakdown of the cost but I never received it. She stated that she could save me $300 by sharing the supplies with another site which I found to be fishy. She was very nice but I received a much cheaper estimate from someone else. She acted like the coupon didn't matter.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for $99 for $200 Credit Toward Summer Yardwork. They came out for an estimate.

Member, Hello- You were given an estimate when I was standing there with you going over your property. What you were waiting for was an additional cost estimate for other work and gravel. As far as sharing supplies/cost..it's not "fishy". It is less expensive to buy in bulk. When there are two customers in the same/near area who need same materials I try to save them money by splitting the cost. Oh yes, I generally DO NOT make extra money on that deal. It's just easier for me and good customer service if all involved can benefit. Good Luck To You

There were many emails and phone calls between Laura from Aries Yard Works and myself to schedule a time to make an assessment of the yard. I was told that it would be an additional $180 to mow a medium sized back yard. I was told that if we choose to do other work, it would still be an additional $110 to do any work around the yard. While the grass was about knee high, I didn't think it should cost $380 just to mow a medium sized back yard, especially when I was going to take care of all the clippings myself with no hauling or disposal. We decided that her company would not be the best option for my needs and she said she would approve a refund.

Yes, there were many emails and eventually calls from me. I was trying to make contact with you. Because of the new messaging center at AL there was limited contact information at the time. In addition there were two names with Auld that came through and no one returned my emails to clarify for some time: from either Auld. Turns out it was one and the same. When I arrived to view your property the back yard was extremely overgrown. You had already burned out a lawn mower trying to mow it yourself. Also, rock, dips and other debris had to be cleared out to be able to mow. The fence lines were also thick and high. You showed me shrubs you were interested in having reduced as they too were very overgrown. In general, I explained a high mow with a brush cutter then string lined then low mowed with a mower & large thick shrubs reduction would still be more than face value of coupon. You apparently understood at the time. I spent time with you answering your questions, suggesting ideas for your property explaining its needs and what you can do to take control of your property. All the best with it.

Were often late to appointments - Difficulty because they set up dates that I did not agree to - Seemed unable to read emails. Did not agree to first list of jobs they agreed to before purchase of coupon - i.e. fall lawn aeration said they could do, but then said it would cost extra Bad mouthed another Angie's List provider Cut down a tree that was not to be cut down - Finally did replace it Did good job on trimming Rhodie Did jobs I did not want done - I.e. fall leaf cleanup that I could have done myself Very frustrating - Seemed to talk a good talk, but did not deliver Update: Aries response to my review is typical of the type of negative interaction I had with them through the course of my interaction. They took little responsibility for the problems & blamed me for many of the issues. I noticed other reviews got the same response. It just seems that a business that blames the customers is not a positive thing.

Sorry you were not satisfied with my service. Heavy rains (ladder work to prune rhoddie top), conflicting schedules, leaf clean up in the rain to help out at no cost to you because other work had to be called off because of the heavy rain, list of work that was approved by you, signed off on then and completed by me. Additional cost for the aerator. Other continued assorted communications pertaining to your property, replacement tree, discussion on dead small Maple and my looking into information you gave me-from an arborist who gave you limited info per your relay-to check to see if disease was responsible and what to do about it and surrounding possible soil contamination and replacing little dead Maple. All the pruning of other plants on property both front and back. Massive amounts of debris disposal. This is a rare instance in which, out of all my hundreds of customers, that sometimes there is just no consoling. No matter what is done to correct, offer, agree to, complete or compensate would be enough to satisfy. Sorry you were not pleased.
