We are so thankful to have found Albina Construction. We have an 1899 house with a lot of work to be done and we needed to paint the exterior before the rains came. While preparing for painting mid-September we were confronted with the fact that our front porch was falling apart and we should probably fix it to not waste a beautiful paint job (and also because the porch was falling apart and the stairs were unsafe). The porch was completely dry-rotted and the steps were rickety. I called Albina Construction to see if they could take a look. Dennis stopped by the very next day, and soon after we had a reasonable bid. Since he knew we had painting scheduled he squeezed us in and within DAYS had a flawless beautiful new porch (I cannot emphasize the "flawless" part enough). I had expected the process would take at least a couple of weeks, so that he fit us in and got it done so fast was an unexpected blessing and meant a lot. The craftsmanship was perfect and all of the little details were looked after, from the wood being primed before installation to putting extra primer over the screws holding the stairs to their new center brace and a hundred other little things that had been thought about and attended to. Everything was straight, precise, and square (I'm the daughter of an engineer and obsess about/admire that stuff). Rotten wood was replaced and elements that were still OK were re-used. After the job you wouldn't have known they were here (except for the perfect new porch) and everything was cleaned up and hauled away. A few days later we had a question and Dennis stopped by and talked with us about it in person. Dennis and his crew are awesome. Craftsmanship and customer service. Office manager Caitlin is on it and communicated with us throughout the project. It's obvious that they know what's what and have an incredible amount of knowledge and experience. I can't recommend them highly enough and am grateful for them and their good work. It's reassuring to find a really good contractor that you trust and Albina will be ours for the foreseeable future.
Description of Work: Porch rehab on front porch of 1899 house. Wood was dry-rotted, stairs were rickety and wobbly (missing center brace). The deck boards were all replaced, the stair boards were replaced, and a center brace was added to the stairs. Existing posts and railings were preserved.

Description of Work: After our home was destroyed by a fire, we hired Albina to do our renovation (another company did the smoke remediation). Working with an architect, the contractor gave us a bid, which included what seemed to be a very high "supervision" rate. Their work came highly recommended, and there was a focus on sustainable, low-impact materials, which we liked. I will say, the work was impeccable. That being said, their business sense is borderline offensive. There was little to no accounting, so when they went over budget (on a guaranteed maximum price contract) it was a total surprise. Although we weren't contractually obligated to pay them any more than we guaranteed (because they didn't follow the contract language regarding change orders, nor did any of their monthly accounting reports reflect the correct amount of money spent), they put up a huge fight about money owed. They were in breach of contract on other provisions. We ended up paying them a portion just to make them finish the job and go away. Like I said, the craftsmanship was impressive, but, in the end, I'm not sure worth the headache of having to deal with them.
