I got a call on 1/18/13 saying the project was ready for pickup (early). Excellent service and workmanship as always (this is my second project with Aladdin). I'm absolutely sure it'd impress even my great grandfather. I trust them enough to simply tell them to make it the way it should be done, and make it so that it looks best. They made the new mahogany tray to fit the style and workmanship of the original so that it all "worked" together; I'm sure that it'll continue to be an heirloom piece, handed down long after I'm gone. They are expensive ($80/hr), but the peace of mind re/workmanship on an important sentimental family piece was worth it.
Description of Work: I took in a small (9"x15"x9") mahogany jewelry chest made by my great grandfather around 1900. In okay shape but I wanted it stripped, refinished, and a 1/2 box tray made to replace one that was either lost or never made. I needed it finished by 2/1/13, because it's to be a 20th birthday gift to my son.

They have always been wonderful to work with and very knowledgeable. One of my favorite businesses. I am taking another antique couch to them today.
Description of Work: I have used Aladdin multiple times for different pieces of furniture. So far they have repaired/refinished my oak dining table, my antique couch and a dresser.

The guys gave me an estimate that they stuck to, although I thought the overall cost was high. The job was finished on time, and I have to say that the finished piece was absolutely immaculate. It looked and quot;as-newand quot;, and with the top in place it will be a stunning addition to a mid-century furnished living room. So higher-than expected cost aside, the end-value was there. I have other, smaller and less complex refinishing projects to do, and will include them in my bid list as I research good restoration shops around NE Portland.
Description of Work: I brought in a 1960 Herman Miller Noguchi walnut table base that needed repair; one leg had a poor repair job from a previous break and needed to be pulled apart again, a jig made, and the leg "re-repaired", and both base legs were badly marred from the years so needed refinishing. They were to make the repairs and refinish both base legs to original condition.

My company moved me to Oregon from the east coast. Several items were scratched up and the buffet, arm chair, and table leaf had very deep grooves. The contractor sent to evaluate needed repairs used Aladdin Finishers. They came in, carefully removed the items and took them to their shop. Items were returned a week later in perfect condition. They matched perfectly with the other items in their respective sets.
Description of Work: Refinished and resurfaced the following items: (1) antique pecan-wood table and leaf; (2) oak buffet (part of dining room set); (3) side tables; and (4) cherry-wood arm chair/recliner. All items look NEW! Service was much quicker than I expected. In fact, they beat their stated time-frame by a week. Fast and fantastic work!

This company did incredible work in a timely fashion. It was evident that they took great pride in their business which had been in the family for several generations. Exceptionally professional and friendly, they inspired confidence and did not disappoint. We will definitely be using their services again when needed.
Description of Work: Repaired two curved legs that had broken off a drum top coffee table. An antique, the table was made of real wood and had intricate carvings. The legs had broken off when and elderly person fell on the table.. Although the wood on one of the legs had actually split, we were unable to detect which one had been split after the repairs.

Aladdin was recommended by the moving company. They were very responsive and flexible. They offered references for their work and explained in detail what needed to be done, what the risks might be, and how long it would take. The table has a very dark, shiny finish that required multiple layers. They did excellent work and repaired a number of minor scratches and a chip that ocurred before the move. We are very particular about our home furnishings and were very pleased with the work Aladdin did. We recommend them very highly.
Description of Work: The top of our antique dining table was seriously scratched by the moving company. Aladdin came to the house, investigated the damage, negotiated with the moving company, picked up the table and leaves, refinished the table top, and returned it to the house.

Fantastic! Jim is a well-known craftsman (that is getting on in age and his son is starting to take over); he's been written up in the Oregonian in years past. This is one of those "old world" companies... with tons of experience and willing to do what-ever is needed. This work was done in the Fall of 2005 and I'm only posting now that I've joined Angie's List.
Description of Work: We had Aladdin re-finish our grand piano (something they are known for in addition to regular furniture work). Our 1908 piano has a "art case" with lots of detail, so it was a complicated job.

I broke two horizontal braces that hold together a typical wooden chair. Aladdin Refinishers repaired the chair to better than original condition (now has stronger joints) and did it in less time than estimated.

They have been very nice, professional and easy to work with. Very knowledgeable.
Description of Work: I have had several pieces repaired here. The woodwork on a Victorian couch was repaired after a dog chewed it up - you can't even tell. New leaves were made for an oak table. Three different chairs have been repaired and I have been very happy with each. The amount paid for work is an approximation of all of the work I've had done.
