Advanced Bathtub Refinishing

I called to get an estimate on the refinishing. However, Dennis explained to me that this type of bathtub will always test positive for lead, and that refinishing was not necessary. He was friendly, professional, and informative. Based on his recommendation, I decided to not have the tub refinished.

Dennis was fantastic. He arrived promptly, did the job quickly and cleanly, and was a pleasure to have working in the house. There were other workers in the same area, working on another job, and Dennis worked around them and the space politely and professionally. The tub turned out beautifully!

Excellent job, great communication and instruction on care. Not only job well done but fast. With a two piece tub/shower the joint was chipped and black and ugly, I was informed that i would never have that problem again. No overspray, fumes were expelled to exterior and barely noticed the nexted day

The first attempt resulted in a large bulge in the floor of the tub, and the crack appeared to be reopening. The attempt to fix that completely destroyed the bottom of the tub and it still leaks, possibly more than ever. UPDATE-JAN 20, 2015 - The final outcome of this was that the tub and surround had to be replaced entirely, and in short order due to the needs of the tenant of the house. We had this done by a separate contractor. I'm amending my review because ABR has reimbursed us for most of the cost of the replacement, and they did not try to duck responsibility for this. I believe the mistake was just that; an error in judgement, and not necessarily a lack of caring or outright incompetence. I'm sure Dennis will be a lot more careful to fully scope out the situation in the future.

All went well. The work was started and finished in the time stated it would be done. The price was as quoted when we called and asked for an estimate. We are very happy with the new appearance of the bathroom which was attained at a price we felt was very fair and reasonable. What more could we ask fer?

Apparently the tub was in much worse shape then we thought. We thought it was just really dirty but Dennis showed me that there were actually little holes in the tub from wear and tear. He made a recommendation to do something a little different than I initially asked (non-skid surface bottom) b/c he said it would hold up better over time given the condition of the tub. I went with his recommendation and am very pleased with the results. The tub looks a MILLION times better than it did before!

Overall it was a mess. The end result was horrible. He left mud and glaze foot prints on my brand new cherry wood floors. The tub had patches of rough and smooth spots and glaze all over it. Then he left all of the faucets and jets taped when he left. He left the faucet from the sink off and left. He left the job unfinished. I called him about this and he refused to come back and finish. He said he didnt like the way i was speaking to him. His "MOTHER" came and cleaned up for him. Very unprofessional. He ended up giving me money back. But he made me wait? He made call paypal and cancel my claim he then made me sign a contract saying I wouldnt sue him. I ended up having to pay someone $150 dollars to come and fix his botch job that he did on my tub then an extra $950 to re glaze. I don't recommended him to anyone.

Dennis was very poliete and responsive. Due to his good reports on Angie's List, we felt comfortable allowing him into our home while we were at work. He called to let me know he was finished (not too long after his scheduled start time), and gave me some instructions over the phone (he also left written instructions for us at home). When I got home the tub looked great! There was some vapor smell, but he had closed the door and turned the fan on, and it had mostly dissipated by the next day. We removed the protective tape and paper the next day, and it looks like we have a brand-new tub! Lovely!

I picked him because he was rated highly on Angie's List. His name is Dennis Paulus. Everything turned out just fine. He was quick. He was thoughtful about telling me when to leave the house because of the fumes. When there was a little problem with the grout, he came back and fixed it. The tub looks very nice.

From the start Dennis was a good person to work with over the phone. He was very concise and informative and sounded very competant in his field of work. It was very clear right away the service he'd provide, how much it would cost and when he could be out to do the work. Dennis either answered his phone or called back very quickly; even on a Saturday! This was very impressive as large companies will not do the same. We scheduled an appointment, I allowed him to start on the tub without me and I met him there just before the job was finished. (If he did not have the rating/reputation and experience that he does I wouldn't have thought of letting him in without me present) The job went great and the tub looked amazing. He gave me the rundown on how to care for the tub in the future. Upon later inspection I found a thin spot of paint that I really wanted to be coated again. I called Dennis and without hesitation was out that same day to fix the very minor issue. That's what I call follow up service! I have no doubt that if there is ever a problem with my tub Dennis will be more than willing to help out. I fully recommend him for bath tub refinishing!

I received the estimate over e-mail after answering a few questions. The owner, Dennis, actually completed the work and it was done within the quoted timeframe and it looks great. Everything was exactly as promised. Dennis had an arm in a cast, so the effort was that much more impressive!

I couldn't have asked for a better experience-all the reviews that led me to call him were right on. He actually showed up early (after making sure it worked for me) and was done and gone in about three hours. Being pregnant, I was worried about the fumes but they were very minimal and only really present for the last part of the job. Dennis was very nice and professional, and when he had to reschedule our original appointment due to an unforseen problem, I actually got a discount! My family has really been enjoying finally being able to take baths!

Dennis was punctual and professional, explained the process, did a great job. At my request, he came back after the weekend to put the shower door back on and even did all the calcing.

When I called Dennis to schedule the job, he was able to give me a very reasonable estimate over the phone. I was not only pleased with the price, I was ecstatic to learn that, because of a sudden cancellation, Dennis could come out and do the job the next day! He arrived on time, we discussed the job, and then I left to return to work. In less than 3 hours, Dennis called to say he was done! The tub absolutely sparkles! What a great way to keep my old tub out of a landfill! Dennis suggested specific cleaning products and explained the warranty. I should have done this long ago! The bathroom walls, tub fixtures, and floor were all well-masked by paper and tape. It was easy to remove about 24 hours later. Be aware that the fumes afterward are intense and keeping the room well-ventilated with the door shut will help contain them. I highly recommend Dennis Paulus as he is an expert at a very technical and specialized craft. I will be calling on him in the future!

I was very pleased with the overall operation. Dennis arrived right on schedule (something not all repair people do) and set to work. The work was finished promptly and efficiently. Dennis took care to clean up everything when he was finished, and talked to me about how to care for the tub, what to expect, and suggested several caulking and cleaning products to use. He was professional and thorough. And he remembered to give me the discount for having found him on Angie's List.

Dennis gave me a bid over the phone and explained what would be involved with the refinishing my tub. He answered all my questions regarding how long I would have to wait until using the tub (about 24 hours) and let me know that there would be some fumes. I couldn't be at home during the day the work was being done, but was happy to come home in the evening to a beautifully refinished tub. The fumes from the work were pretty strong, but Dennis had done his best to minimize the smell by keeping fans blowing while the work was being done. The back of the tub had always had a problem with a small puddle of sitting water that would not flow to the drain. Dennis recommended buying supports designed for lifting the back of the tub. Getting to a big hardware store that sells the supports was not easy for me (I don't have a car) and when I asked him, he was kind enough to pick up the supports for me and help me get them under the tub feet.

Gave us a quote over the phone and explained the process. Completed the work quickly and explained curing time and care. Very smooth process. Quick and cost effective.

I had remodeled the bathroom myself and had installed a new white toilet and white sink in the process. The yellow cast iron (very heavy) bathtub needed to be ripped out and replaced or refinished. We chose to refinish the bathtub. Made an appointment the previous week, he arrived on time and promptly went to work and finished the work in about 3 hours. Looks great.

They were very professional. They were on time, they did the job in a very timely manner and they did very high quality work. I would recommend them and use them again in the future.

Dennis gave me his estimate on the phone and I had another company come out who quoted me over $1600! I called Dennis back telling him I wanted to believe him, but was he SURE he could do the work in 1 day and for the price he quoted? After all, he hadn't SEEN the hideousness that was the 1970s. He said he was sure, tile was tile, paint was paint. Willing to take less than perfection for going with the low-ball bid, I was pleasantly surprised. Dennis is a nice guy, jovial, talks kinda fast. He arrived on time, was careful to wipe his feet, etc. It took him 2 hours to mask off everything and only 1 hour to paint. He was very careful to go over the warranty with me, explain what kind of cleaning products I can use, how to get stains out. He set my expectations of what I was going to get given the dark, dark brown/black grout and old, uneven tiles. He said he'd be more than willing to come back when we get the entire remodel finished and do some touch-up work (we're going to change out the floor so he said he'd come fill the bottom in if it needed). The bathtub itself looks awesome (haven't been in it yet to confirm the smoothness), and the tile looks SO MUCH better. If I were a perfectionist, I could say there are a few areas where the coverage wasn't a beautiful white as it could be but these are the same areas he pointed out that weren't tiled flush to begin with. I understand that if you're not starting with a nice, even surface there is inevitably going to be variation. Let's just say that I doubt that the $1600 guy could have done much better for more than twice the money. I am going to take him up on his offer of coming back and doing some spot-checking later and will chime in if I have any problems getting him to come back out. For now, I'd totally recommend him and use him again.

Our white with gold speckle tub/shower insert from the 60's/70's had a few scratches and dents, and just needed an overhaul before we put our house on the market. We considered putting in a new shower, but after experiencing this in another bathroom (and finding many hidden costs in our old home remodels) we opted for the refinish, and boy were we glad. 4hrs total and our tub/shower insert looks brand new. Great work by Dennis/ABR. I would definitely recommend him to others.

Dennis was very responsive. He scheduled our work at a mutually convenient time eleven days after first contact, and he came back the next business day to fix a slight imperfection in his original work. It looks great!
