Description of Work: We hired them to replace a large deck, as well as a trellis and a structure we use to keep our bird feeding stations covered. They also did a small rock wall. Excellent work, reasonable price. Sometimes they were a bit scattered in terms of communication and clarity on what we had agreed on. We'd hire them again.

Description of Work: I had a small backyard with lumpy sod. They removed all the grass, put in a patio, couple of trees, and flower beds. The yard now looks wonderful. It took a really long time to get the work done -- busy summer landscaping season. Scott is easy to work with and was very responsive to my ideas.

Description of Work: I had purchased the $675 Landscaping Evaluation and Plans. When Scott came to look at what we wanted, he told us that we did not need to have the Plans done, so the $675 would be used as part of the down payment. :-) Given what we wanted, he made some suggestions and we decided on a stone retaining wall to replace a rotting wood retaining wall (about 3 feet tall), and a set of wood-and-gravel steps to make the climb to the upper portion of the backyard. In addition, he agreed that 2 Rhododendrons that were in the way of the new wall would be replanted higher up. He gave us a Monday start date and estimated 2-3 weeks to complete. He was able to get his crew out on the Thursday afternoon before, to get started on the breakdown of the existing wall. They were able to finish in just over 2 weeks, on that Friday. His crew (mostly Pat and Craig) were very professional and pleasant. As work progressed, they did ask for clarifications where different options were available, so everything was kept on track. Scott did find that the cap stone for the wall was on back-order from the supplier, but quickly came up with an alternative that was actually better than our original plan (complementary color instead of the same as the wall). And after they completed the project, they cleaned up!

My project turned out beautifully. At our first meeting, Scott met with me and my landscape designer. We decided to undertake the hardscape, which was the first stage of the design. Scott put in a paver path from the front of my house around the side to the backyard (with steps where there was incline), and posts with lighting along the way. He also installed a custom wrought iron gate at the entry to the backyard. I really love the way it all turned out. It was a pleasure working with Scott, who met with me often, sent me sample photos of ideas, and made suggestions that would blend in with my style preferences and the setting of my home (in a natural wooded area). I had no specific timeline in mind when Scott started the project, and Scott was candid about his time limitations ? the yard and garden shows he was doing and his travel plans. He thought it would take about 6 weeks from start to finish. However, the start date got pushed back and it actually took a few months to complete. Some delays were caused by the extended length of time it took for product orders to arrive, the gate manufacturer not following his timeline, and some unforeseen obstacles that cropped up along the way. Though things progressed more slowly than anticipated, I am extremely pleased with the quality of the work and the end result.
Description of Work: He installed a paver path with steps, posts with lighting, and a gate. He also fixed the irrigation system and built a ramp.

Don't get me wrong. Scott of Tellurian Gardens, is a nice, professional person. He provided a nice design with specific plants listed for each location, and took the time to meet with us and discuss the design in detail. I really don't have much complaint with what we ended up with except that...the "Big Deal" turned out to not be such a good deal. As I stated in an e-mail to Angie's List: "Tellurian Gardens offer states that the $500 Big Deal purchase price will be credited to any work we would have them do, and while discussing our potential project, we were informed that rates would be significantly higher because we are in Hillsboro (the vendor is in SE Portland) and we would be better off hiring someone else to do the work. I feel we have been finagled out of $500, although we will presumably receive a plan worth that much (?)." While I don't currently feel like we were " finagled out of $500" I do feel as if we did not get full value. Isn't that what Angie's List is about? Also from the e-mail..." I would much rather he said it would be better for us to find someone better located and he would refund our $500 than to have him draw a plan that we have little hope of having him do the work (for which we expected to receive credit of $500) - it feels as if we?ve thrown $500 away because we chose to purchase a Big Deal where the vendor?s location is a deterrent to him providing cost effective work." Again, I currently don't feel we've "thrown $500 away" [some of that, but not all], but I do feel we could have been better informed earlier and saved the effort on both Scott and our part. We currently feel as if we need a local landscaping company to at least buy into the design, and agree to help us complete it, although I have doubts it will be as easy as that. Scott did his part, except, perhaps, for the immediate notice that he'd not do the work in our area because of distance (which I completely understand), and we do have a design. Maybe I'm quibbling over this, but I am extremely wary of the Big Deals now. There isn't anything Scott can do now, we did let him know how we felt, and I wouldn't ask him to make a refund, but he is also aware of the geographical limitations; when dealing with the metropolitan area one deals with a very large area indeed. If geography were not an issue, I would hire Scott and Tellurian Gardens again. My problem isn't with the work, it's the process of the "Big Deal"
Description of Work: Per Angie's List "Big Deal" we received a landscape design.

Response from Tellurian Construction
[member name removed] First off, it was a pleasure to work on your design and enjoyed working with you both. Second off, I could not agree more with what your saying and I apologize for the situation. The situation is basically that the wording in the Big Deal was not what it should have been and I should have reimbursed you as soon as you bought the deal. I will be putting together another Big Deal in the upcoming weeks and I am making sure to make clear what the geographical boundaries will be for the offer. When I composed the deal last year, Angie's List helped create the deal, but they did not inform me that people outside of my listing area could see the deal. Everything was fine, then you and someone else both bought the deal within a couple of days. As soon as this happened, I pulled the deal and called Angie's List to ask why this was happening. They explained that in fact anybody could see the deal and that it is all in the wording. The other lesson I learned is that I could have refunded your money. This is probably what I should have done as it would not have created the situation where you have a design and no contractor to install it. I did not realize that refunding money was an option. Now that I know this, I will use this strategy in the future if it is necessary. Once again, it was a pleasure to work with you and I sincerely apologize for not being informed on the ways of Angie's List. I will take this as a lesson learned and will not make this mistake again. Sincerely Scott.

Scott contacted me to schedule a time to meet to go through the design process. At the time of our discussion he was very curious to know how his name came up as a provider for our neighborhood. He apparently only wanted to be included in neighborhoods close to his business base (in Oregon). I live just over the border in Washington and during peak traffic times it can be an hour commute to our neighborhood. However, Scott agreed to move forward with the design process. We had a few hiccups in getting our first meeting scheduled but we met and my husband and I really liked meeting with Scott, the process he led us through and the concepts he suggested for our yard. It was then several weeks and multiple contacts before getting a proposed design sketch. We did not meet again until June (our initial contact was in April). We went through the first design proposal, received an estimate for installation and made a few adjustments. We did not receive final plans until August. I had to prompt Scott on next steps (finalizing a proposal for installation, deposit requirements, securing a date on his schedule). Finally, I received a call from Scott indicating he cannot assist us with installation. Needless to say, my husband and I are very disappointed. Disappointed in the amount of time it took us to get the final drawing and disappointed in the fact that we are unable to complete the process with Scott. Here we are at the end of the summer season with no scheduled installation and having to start over at square one. Scott has offered to help us identify a new contractor to provide the installation, however he does not have personal knowledge of the contractors in our area and has not seen their work. So, not sure how much value there is in his assistance going forward. I like Scott and his designs, just wish he could have delivered in a more timely manner and seen our project through to installation.
Description of Work: I purchased a landscape design that was offered as a "special" by Angie's List. I chose this provider based upon the website portfolio and stated design philosophy.

He was great. We had a number bids for the pathway installed and drainage for the yard, etc. and some of the people were really outrageous and high pressured in their approach both personal and how much it would cost and I did not feel particularly comfortable with what they thought they wanted to do and it was not in keeping with what we liked. Scott from Tellurian Gardens was the last one who bid and he exceedingly honest, forthcoming and seemed like he knew what he was doing, so we went with him. His price was reasonable. He kept us informed of when he was going to be there, what time he was going to show up, he always came when he said he was going to be there. If he needed a leave of day or two, he would tell us ahead of time, so we would know. He was better than you could possibly expect a contractor to be. He was just great to work with. We had some monsoon rain after he had done the drainage and we had a problem and he came out immediately in the monsoon rain to fix the problem. In holidays, he went out of town for a while and he kept asking us how it was doing. We were so impressed. He came out and bid on another job and he will be doing another work for us. Every time we had to change, he gave us price beforehand.
Description of Work: We have used Tellurian Gardens for hardscaping and drainage. He installed the pathway with asphalt.

Scott was prompt in contacting me and followed up when he said he would. Matt showed up on time to go over the work with me before they got started. They were friendly and professional at all times. I was very happy with the work they did and am looking forward to hiring them again in the future!

I shopped around for almost a year interviewing and taking bids from every landscaper I could find, you can say I'm very picky. I finally decided on going with Tellurian Gardens. They gave us a back yard sanctuary to relax and entertain in all year round. it was a totally unusable space of moss, mud, and weeds and Scott at Tellurian Gardens thought out side the box and came up with artistic design ideas that no other landscapers did. Now we have a covered deck area like no other, a separate outdoor eating area, and a beautifully landscaped yard. Tellurian Gardens also designed and installed a natural looking dry creek bed garden in our front yard. It's a low maintenance alternative to normal grassy lawns, and the time saved mowing can be spent relaxing on my new deck in the back yard. I'm so happy I went with Tellurian Gardens and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a highly creative and wonderful landscaper to work with.

They did an excellent job. Contact was constant during the projects to make sure that we were on the same page. Processes were explained and flexibility was a strong point. We love the results and recommend them highly. Scott is quite creative and hires the best folks to work with him. So refreshing to have folks that love what they do and are proud of the work that they perform.
Description of Work: Tellurian Gardens originally built a rock wall for us at the back of our house. They also put a deck on the front and back of the house. And lastly they created raised beds and stone steps and a pathway in the front of our house.

Member We enjoyed working with you and working on your project. It has been wonderful watching the place transform over the last couple of years and it has come along ways since we first started working on the back yard several years ago. What a mud pit it was then! Keep me posted on how everything is doing and let me know if I need to stop by to take a look at anything. I will also be stopping by over the seasons to take pictures and see how everything is growing. Thanks Scott
