About us

We have been "Dign Life" since 1991, and with more than three decades of experience, we know our dirt! We have experience in all facets of residential, small commercial, and farm site preparation from initial clearing of land, construction of driveways, excavating of building sites, to final back-fill of foundations. We also provided "farm" related services such as clear land, remove stumps, and mowing of fields. After much deliberation, our family-business has determined that it needs to suspend operations for the time being. It has been a pleasure to serve the Willamette Valley for 33 years. Description of Work: Trenched out and separated two lines of drainage, put in clean out valves, made a large ditch to take effluvium, and sunk the line on a gradual uphill área to ensure drainage. Several hundred feet of work.

Ted was the absolute best to work with. We'd never built a house before and he took us in hand like we were his own children. He not only did the job but explained to us why he was doing each step. He helped us decide what sort of pavers to use for our driveway, even going so far as to send us a link online. He dug out for the house, cut down a tree and leveled the ground, did the sewer line (including scheduling with the city), he did the rain drains and even connected us with a plumber. He came back 3 or 4 times as the job required multiple steps over many months. He let us know at each step of the building process when to call him so he'd have exactly the right amount of notice. I cannot say enough nice things about working with Ted.
Description of Work: Dug out for a new house we had built.

I called Ted Riehl Excavating because I needed some excavation work. I figured they were busy this time of year so I wanted to get an idea of their availability and if they were interested in my job. The first call went out on 31July - they still have not responded as of 11Aug to that call or a subsequent call. When I ran my construction business I at least had the courtesy to return all calls and talk with the potential customer even if my schedule was crowded because I did not know their schedule or how lucrative their job might be without that communication. Any quality business should at least provide the courtesy to return calls and say they cannot take the job. I got hold of Tim Tapani Construction and Dale and I talked several times to try to schedule my work but in the end it just wasn't going to work out in an agreeable time frame so Dale had another contractor he knew contact me and it's working out great.

His work and attention to detail was most appreciated. We now have a new installed system that works great. I highly recommend Ted for more Septic System Installations.
Description of Work: We found Ted on a Clackamas County authorized installer of Septic Systems. Ted was responsive and provided a bid that was realistic and affordable. He installed a new 450ft Drain Field, a new Septic Tank, and layed new PVC Plumbing between the house and drain field.

The job went well and actually came in under priced of another bid. The water pipe that was leaking was next to the house foundation and under the driveway. After the verbal bid we also requested a shut-off valve be installed. Due to the proximity of the foundation wall the trench was dug by hand and the whole area was kept clean during the repair. Ted and his employee were very professional and we appreciate what they did. We would certainly recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Hand dug a trench in the driveway, repaired a section of water pipe and added a shut-off valve. Filled the hole and repaired the asphalt.

I was extremely impressed with Ted and his crew. When Ted came out to assess the job, he was extremely knowledgeable and courteous and his team completed the work on time and on budget. All this despite the fact that they went out of their way to preserve a rock wall by tunneling under it instead of taking it down and reassembling it. This is my first report on Angie's List and I was motivated to write it because of the exceptional job this company did at a lower cost than an of the other contractors I spoke with had quoted. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone who needs their services.
Description of Work: Ted and his crew disconnected my sewer line from a party line, excavated a path for a new line to attach to the public sewer, and installed a new sewer line.

I wanted to wait until the rains came to see how well the french drain was working before I wrote this review. The sump pump has hardly run at all this year in comparison to past years, so it was a job well done. Ted and his crew were great to work with. He came by several times a day to check on the progress of his crew, and to answer any questions that came up. Once the digging started, there were a few minor modifications that came up and they solved them allaying my concerns. They worked very carefully around my underground pipes and my landscaping. Part of the trench had to be dug right along side of a row of fruit trees that had been planted in the spring. The backhoe operator was so careful that he pointed the exaust away from the trees so he would not burn them. They did a great job on the cleanup. A number of my neighbors commented on how flat the ground was after backfilling the trenches, considering the amount of dirt that had been removed. They did a really nice job packing the backfill dirt; there has been very little settling where the trenches were dug.
Description of Work: His crew installed 100 feet of perforated pipe in a 3 foot deep trench topped off with gravel and attached it to 200 feet of underground drain pipe.

Working with Ted was one of the best experiences I had. He tried his best to get me the best price for some equipment I needed for the sewer job. He was just perfect. He did great work. It took a long time but it was not his fault. He was always there to do what he could while we were waiting for parts.
Description of Work: Ted Riehl Excavating removed the septic tank and did the entire sewer work. He finished the job about 3 weeks ago.

Both jobs went very well. He was sensitive to our landscaping concerns and offered good suggestions and provided good referrals. He leveled out the walkway and you can't even tell where he dug. Our next project is going to be a retaining wall that will require some digging out and we plan to ask him for a bid.
Description of Work: We live on a gravel road and wanted to pave the driveway area around our house. I called for an estimate and after receiving the bid, we scheduled Ted to come in and prepare the area for asphalt paving. He leveled the area, which was quite sloped, and brought in several (4-5?) loads of gravel and spread and leveled it. We also asked if he could recommend a paver, which he did. We are very satisfied with the work. Job total, including materials, about $2200 (not including the paving). The second time we called because we needed to have our septic tank cleaned, which meant exposing the opening. The tank sits under a raised walkway that is level and covered with chips. It also required that he manuever to avoid our landscaping, which he was able to do. The lid was located about 3 feet below ground level, so Ted suggested we put a riser in for future cleanouts. Great idea! This job totaled about $850 including materials.
