Description of Work: I was calling First Call Heating and Cooling to set up a time for an estimate but didn't really have much time or room in my schedule. Our furnace was OUT and the house had been COLD for THREE days. The rest of the family was sleeping at their grandparents and I was after at least TWO estimates for the expensive prospect of replacing our heat pump and furnace. I talked with Steve Ericson at First Call. I explained that I needed a sales call before the end of the day (it was noon already) so I could at least make one comparison to the estimate I'd already gotten from a competitor company. Eric was very professional. He didn't bad mouth the competition. Actually, he explained that he knew the person from the other company and that they both sold Trane products. Without endorsing his competitor he said that his quote would likely be within a few hundred dollars and that I could be confident that they would do a good job. Thanks, Steve, for your professional attitude and respect for others who do quality work in your field. I'm glad I had Angie's List as a primary source for quality HVAC companies. Jim B.

Description of Work: We had them do all the cleaning of the duct work in our house and they did perventative maintenance on our furnance and heat pump. They found a leak in our above ground oil tank and promptly had it pumped out and ordered a new tank and with a few days it was delivered and they installed the new tank, refilled the tank and we are very satisfied with their service and their promptness for fixing everything before the holidays. The only reason I used the date of 12/31/2012 is because it was several different dates for this all to take place.

Description of Work: Tune up on a boiler tha hadn't been serviced in four years. Jim gave an honest appraisal and didn't try to sell additional parts and service. He answered all my questions professionally; he seemed to have in-depth experience and expertise. Very pleased with the service. I'm confident my heating system is ready for winter!

Description of Work: I received an annual maintenance on my central gas heater. It was great! He even showed my wife some tips on how to operate the controls.

Description of Work: We called Tri County Temp and they were able to come out same day. Ron arrived and was able to diagnose our a/c quickly. He was very professional. He replaced a fuse and the a/c fired right up.

Description of Work: A/C stopped cooling. Sent email last evening and they promptly called at 8am today to setup service call. They came 30 early from promised time and service tech attached a pressure tester to the coolant found A/C was not holding coolant. As they did the same thing last year, and replaced the coolant, the service tech explained that by law they are not allowed to replace the coolant again after the 1st replacement. I will be calling the company for a bid on replacement equipment.

Description of Work: During the week between Christmas and New Year's Day, my 10-year old oil furnace stopped running. A First Call tech came the day of my early morning call and restarted the furnace, but the problem was the presence of water in the oil. The 620 gallon oil tank buried in my yard is approximately 60 years old, so it was clear to me that I had a big problem. I called Molly, the owner of First Call and she explained my options, taking considerable time to educate me re all the considerations around remaining with oil or switching to gas. I agreed to explore further with Steve Erickson, a salesman for First Call. Steve arrived the following day and stayed for an hour further explaining the options and answering my questions. He was very supportive (I am an old lady), patient and informative. I decided to switch to a gas furnace and to also purchase an air conditioner, a luxury I have never had in my home. Steve took care of all the arrangements: contacting the gas company to bring a gas line from the street to my home; sending two duct cleaners from First Call who did a fabulous job and left everything very clean; removing oil furnace and installing the Trane furnace, thermostat and air conditioner which they were able to do in one day with many workers--gas company, electricians, Steve, Trane tech and First Call furnace installation techs. At one time, there were nine folks working inside and outside. At the end of the day, after carefully explaining how everything works, both inside and outside my home was left clean and picked up...they took all their garbage with them, including lunch wrappers! I did not seek other estimates because I have been a customer of First Call for 20 years. Although this project was expensive, it is worth it to me to work with a company with sensitive, experienced staff who not only "know their stuff" but are responsive to customer's special needs. Before this project, I needed to keep my oil furnace thermostat on 74 to 76 degrees, close off part of the house, and still wear layers of clothes. With this gas furnace, the thermostat is on 68 or 70 degrees, all rooms are heated, and I am totally comfy warm. I intend to continue doing business with First Call and will recommend the company to friends

Description of Work: Just performed an annual cleaning and the technician came 'armed' with a tray full of different brushes and spent a lot of time cleaning the burner unit. Good as anyone can ask for, went on their continuing maintenance program as well.

Description of Work: Heater didn't turn on. They came and fixed the problem. I should have done a bit more electrical work myself before calling them as it was an easy fix for $135. None the less - they came the same day and we have heat!

Description of Work: Beginning in December, I started having inadequate heat (low 60s). I called First Call and they came and replaced the circuit board. The technician said another part was starting to go out, and would need to be replaced pretty soon. When I started getting inadequate heat again about a month later, I called again. This started a series of parts getting replace and no improvement in the performance of my furnace. Each time a different technician came out, and had a different recommendation. Finally, it was working adequately again for 2 weeks and then starting shutting down for hours or days at a time, then coming on again and working normally. I called again, and they came out once and said it was fine. At no time did they ever call back to see if they had really fixed my furnace, even though I had had several conversations with the Service Manager, who assured me they would "make things right".

Description of Work: Trouble shooting of furnace that would stop functioning intermittently. Many service calls, new thermostat and finally an accurate diagnosis with new part installed and furnace fixed. It took a long time to the final fix though, 20 days. Total calls were approximately 6. 2 of those were at no charge I had to dispute these charges as I kept paying and I still had no heat. We finally came to an agreement but not one that I am completely satisfied with. In my opinion, I paid too much. As the customer, if my furnace problem had been accurately diagnoses on the first call (over time call, spend) I would have saved a lot of money and headache for my tenant. This is a rental property. At one point I had to offer to put my tenant up in a motel as her heat was not restored after multiple service calls.
