They were professional and responded to what we expressed we would like our stair rail to look like. They did a custom creation for us, and our new stair railing is beautiful.

We had an old wrought iron gate that has needed repair and painting for several years. I dropped it off with Chip & Dales. They could do the repair/paint at a reasonable price, but could do a completely new gate for almost the same. Randy sent me a sketch of a design which was nicer than the original. They were a little short handed and it took a few weeks, but the end result is great. Very happy with the result.

I spoke with Randy over the phone and he came out the next day to give me a quote. The project was challenging as there were french drains and irrigation pipes to avoid while providing sufficient support for large gates. The gates over the grass had to open more than 90 degrees to clear the grass edges for edging. Randy sketched drawings and I accepted his quote. He provided CAD drawings the next day. His fabricator, James, came out later to double check some measurements and review the site to assure everything would be perfect. He and his helper installed the fence and gates about four weeks later. It was delayed a week due to rain. It came out beautifully. It not only looks great, but it functions even better than we had hoped. James spent hours on the installation making sure it was perfect. The recent rains made the area muddy, but he and his helper did a great job cleaning up. We are very pleased.
Description of Work: We needed two wrought iron fences from our existing wood fence to the house to keep our dog in the backyard. This entailed three gates, two large ones over the grass for yard maintenance and a person gate over the side walkway.

We couldn't be happier with these folks! They had a team of qualified and responsive employees who took great care of us. It's rare these days to be wowed by customer service, but these guys have it in spades.

Contacted Chip & Dales via Angies List based on ratings. The owner responded very quickly with a rough estimate that was very competitive. They came out the next day to make measurements. The railing was installed about a week and a half later, and looks awesome. Thanks!

We purchased a home recently, and at some point prior to move in, the previous owner or tenant removed the railing on the front landing, so that anyone stepping back from the front door is at risk of a 6 foot fall onto the driveway below. We discovered the railing (iron) stowed in a storage shed, and we wanted to have it re-installed. (We have no hardware , and it must be competently installed into the concrete as well as the siding.) My son called Chip & Dales to see if they might do the work, but he was literally laughed at, and told to reinstall it myself. Humiliation is not funny and safety is not something to be scorned. A polite "I'm sorry, we do not do that type of installation" would have sufficed.

Response from Chip and Dale's Iron Works
I did not mean to be insulting at all in my reply, but did say that it sounded like something that could be done by the homeowner, and would have cost a lot of unnecessary dollars for us to come out and do it. Sorry

I wrote several lines and something happened and it all disappeared. So I'll be briefer. The welder I found via Angie's list worked my small job into his busy day, and fixed the handle good as new for an extremely fair price. I don't really remember how much it was, or even the approximate date, so made wild guesses. But it was good.

Actual installer worked with me to adjust original proposal, to simplify design as much as possible. Ended up with the most attractive and sturdy rail and filial design I'd seen in any estimate, at $500 less than other estimates. Because C&D would be installing the posts by drilling into cement aggregate steps, I was concerned that covers would be needed at the base of the posts to clean up the look. I asked them to look for something that would work without narrowing the steps (which get pretty narrow at the tightest spot in the curve). That extra request delayed installation because the available covers seemed too big for our purpose, so I decided to have C&D install without covers (perhaps to be added at a later time). The drilling and finishing of the concrete is so clean that it's nearly invisible! And the railing is REALLY sturdy, which is great because the stair heights are uneven (done by a non-Angie's list contractor!) It's also very classy looking! James Taylor was the fabricator and installer. He was easy and very pleasant to work with and did excellent work. My ONLY complaint is that I wasn't notified about the delay (which was, after all, caused by my request--and added only a week to the estimated install date). When I called and found out the fabrication had been completed, I decided to go ahead without the base covers. A quick call from C&D a week earlier would have been appreciated. Otherwise, a totally satisfactory experience!
Description of Work: Built cast iron grab bar on one side of curved front steps, about 30 feet. Also replaced 2 foot wood railing attached to house--at no extra charge!

We found Chip and Dale's using Angie's list and are very happy. After receiving a couple bids, and meeting Randy, we decided to move forward. Having never installed a driveway gate before, I was extremely concerned with many different factors: I didn't want to it affect the look of the house, I wanted a double gate, I wanted the rods to be "x" size, etc. Randy was extremely patient in answering all my questions and make sure the job was done exactly how i wanted. Overall, it turned out amazing!!!! Multiple neighbors have stopped by wanted Chip and Dale's info for their projects. The gate looks and works great. The service was spot on and the whole team is extremely helpful. I fully endorse these guys. You'll be happy you did. I am.

They promptly came to my home and took all the measurements needed. They called me to next day with the cost estimate and the approximate date they could be installed. I decided to proceed. Ten days later they had fabricated, sandblasted and powder coated the new rails and called to set up an installation date. Their price was lower than any bids I had gotten before. James was very professional with the installation and clean up. We were very pleased with every aspect of the project. I would definitely give them an "A" rating.

They were out within two days of asking for a bid. He came out and gave me a rough estimate and emailed me the full bid the same day. He came back out and did the complete measurements. I think it was 5 or 6 weeks later that he called me to let me know that the railings have been fabricated and they set up a time to come out and install them. They installed, cleaned up. They were very professional. We were very happy. They did a really thorough job.

Randy came to do an estimate for a porch surround and two stair railings right away. He had a great sense of humor and infinite patience with all of my questions. He then had us visit the shop and meet the fabricator, James Taylor, to see the materials and the design they came up with. He had added details and flourishes that were in keeping with the age of the house, at no extra cost. The design was beautiful. Right on time James arrived to install the iron rails and porch surround and it is stunning. The price was so worth it. It would have been worth twice as much.

Randy supplied us with an initial cad drawing with his design for the fencing project along with the cost estimate. He happily accomodated my request for some minor changes to be made that really improved the end result. Randy, his fabricator and his installing crew were all very professional. The entire process went quite smoothly, and we are very pleased with the outcome. I would definitely use this firm again. Nina Olsson Portland

I got three different bids for the same work and Chip and Dale's had the best offer. The fabricator matched the new railing to older railings that were already in place. Installation was quick and easy. I payed in full after all the work was completed. Would definitely give them a call again for any other wrought iron needs.
