Description of Work: John came to the house, looked at the grandfather clock which had not worked for over a year, took the main parts to his business. He repaired it and returned it in May. I was very pleased with the service and will use him again for another antique clock that I have.

Description of Work: I had a grandfather clock shipped to me from Arizona in early July. It had been owned by my deceased son and, although it wasn't working, I wanted it as something by which to remember him. I called Another Time Restoration because it was recommended by Angie's List. John came to the house promptly, examined the clock, gave me a price to repair which I accepted without much hesitation because John said it was a firm bid and because the repairs would restore the clock to new working condition and because I believed it to be worth considerably more if I were to buy it new. John took the inner workings, leaving the cabinet behind (to my surprise) and told me he'd have it done within three or four months. He could do the job sooner but it would cost more. Since I'd been without a grandfather clock for 75 years already, I thought that was an acceptable time to wait. On November 9, John called me to say the repairs had been completed and the timing tested. It was ready to be delivered and installed in the cabinet. We agreed to delivery and installation the following day. John arrived promptly at the agreed time, inspected the cabinet which I had cleaned and polished, and approved its planned location in the house after due consideraton. John installed the mechanism, tested to be sure it was working and instructed me on its proper care and maintenance. He also said he'd be happy to consult with me later if I had questons about the clock. Incidentally, John told me the cabinet had cleaned up surprisingly well and that it actually looked really good. I asked him if he could provide an estimate of the clock's value. He considered it for a moment or two and said the cabinet wasn't one of the very fine pieces of craftsmanship but that it was quite serviceable and, if we were to buy it retail now, it would probably sell for between $1,200 and $1,500. Although I've had to adjust the timing of the pendulum, follwing John's instructions, several times since its installation two months ago, it's now keeping near perfect time. John told me I should need to wind it only once a week but I've found it's necessary to wind it twice a week to avoid, in complete confidence, having the weights make contact with the floor of the cabinet.

John was in the area when I called to inquire and actually came to my house to pick up the clocks. He was very helpful and knew what he was doing. He told me that the work would take some time due to the fact that he liked to let the clocks run for at least a month in his shop to determine their accuracy. After looking at the clocks he told me that the repair would cost approximately $500, which it did. He called me 4 months later telling me that the clocks were done and set up a delivery date, last night. After he delivered he explained the work performed and gave me some pointers on keeping my clocks running even longer.
