Very well. They were on time, placed numerous drop cloths, and cleaned the chimney. If I had a chimney to clean, I would hire them again.
Description of Work: Needed chimney cleaned before installing a fireplace insert.

Cliff had a very reasonable quote for this job. The work was performed over a handful of days in the summer. He showed up when he said he would. There was a lot of dust that ended up around our home from the mortar grinding, for what it's worth, it's going to create dust to grind it out. The new mortar was put in along with a crown and tile. On top of this an top-opening damper was installed, and flashing updated/improved around the roofline. It functions with a wire that goes down to the fireplace and a spring mechanism that releases it open (the damper). A few items that came up are that the grey-water from the mortar mixing was dumped in the grass--this just caused some grey spots but the grass was dead due to the drought and heat this summer. I still would have preferred it to be dumped off in the corner of the yard where there was just mulch/no vegetation and is obviously an unused area. Beyond that an oval flue tile was installed on top on which the rectangular top-closing damper was installed. This created small gaps at the edges where the rectangular footing overhung the oval shape of the tile. The damper had a dent on one corner, and did not seem to close flush. Finally sometime in September I noticed the crown had cracks in the mortar from the curing/settling process. For all of the functional concerns, Cliff listened to me and addressed them all with professionalism and ease. He used black flashing material and black caulk to fully close off the areas where the rectangular damper over-hung the oval flue tile. It looks flawless. He ordered a new damper cap from the manufacturer to replace the one with the dent in the corner. He re-ground the crown where it had cracked, and installed a layer of tamoseal, a fixing agent that encapsulated the crown and covers all cracks and weather-proofs it. And finally he came back to tighten the spring/wire on the damper so the closure was completely tight. While I would have preferred some of the issues not to arise in the first place, the response to them was the embodiment of excellent customer service and at the end of the day the issues were taken care of, so I am happy and have a functional and improved fireplace and chimney.
Description of Work: chimney needed some spot mortar repair and had no cap, screen, or damper--it was just open to the sky. Instead of having mixed spots of old and new mortar, it was recommended to grind out all old mortar, re-mortar, install flue/chimney crown, tile and top-damper. re-do chimney flashing at roofline. Also performed a chimney sweep.

I purchased a new Insert. My old Insert did not meet local codes and I had no Insert Flue liner. All this was done on the coldest sub zero days of 2013. Cliff came out the next day and said he did not like the Cap that came with the Flue Liner and brought a New, very nice screened Cap, free of charge. Now, I don't have to worry about the neighborhood woodpeckers (and other critters) finding their way down the Chimney. Cliff did not ask for any payment until the job was fully completed to my approval. Even though there was some extra work involved, Cliff kept to his original quote. My wife was happy that the install was done in a very clean professional manner. I'm now totally code compliant with the local building codes. I will, for sure, use Rooftop Chimney to do the annual cleaning.
Description of Work: wholesale Rooftop Chimney came out and inspected and thoroughly cleaned the chimney. Cliff (the owner) and his two knowledgeable employees removed the old damper, installed the new Flue Liner, did some brick work and installed and leveled the new Insert that proved to be a very close and difficult fit.

This was a basic yearly sweep and inspection to make sure our fireplace is ready to be used this winter. Cliff came out and checked the firebox, swept the chimney and gave the system a clean bill of health in the span of an hour or so.
Description of Work: In the interest of full disclosure, Clifford Brand, the proprietor of Rooftop Chimney and Roof Service, has been one of my most trusted friends for many years. I call on Cliff to be my "chimney maintenance guy" because I have a wood-burning fireplace, I know that a poorly maintained chimney can be very dangerous, and I know that Cliff knows the chimney business. Think about it for just a minute - here in the Northwest we generally use our fireplaces seasonally. When the weather gets wet or frosty, we tend to go to the woodpile, grab some of last year's firewood, toss it in the firebox and light it up for some comforting warmth. But what's been going on inside that chimney since last Spring? Birds nesting? Squirrels storing filberts for winter? Trees dropping leaves, seed pods, pine cones and needles in and around the chimney? What cumulative effect has the years of wood fire heating had on the brick, the mortar, the buildup of creosote and soot inside the chimney or liner? Does my chimney even HAVE a liner? Does it have a cap to allow the smoke out, but keep the critters and debris from getting in? What is the condition of those parts? What is this "flashing" I keep hearing about being so important? If you're like me, climbing up on the roof to peek down the smokestack is probably not your cup of tea, especially if, like me, you wouldn't really be prepared or equipped to deal with whatever you found up there if it were anything out of the ordinary. Cliff is the guy I send up there to check it out, and when he's had a look, he can tell you what's good, what's not so good, what needs to be done today and what should be done going forward as far as regular maintenance. Most importantly, he'll let you know if your fireplace is safe to use. I consider myself very fortunate to have the number of a "chimney maintenance guy" (that I would trust with my life), stored on my speed-dial. I'm going to do you a favor and give you my chimney maintenance guy's number. It's 503-653-3819. Tell him Pat sent you!

Cliff showed up on time to inspect and put together a quote on the job. He willing worked with me on a few revisions to the quoted scope of work. He provided proof of workmans compensation for his contract employee. He started the job on the day he stated he would. He was careful and clean on the work done inside the buildings. The job was completed in the stated amount of time and he followed up on sealing the stucco as stated 30 days later. Cliff handled the unforseen problems in a fair and rapid manner. He even sent a follow up note after the job was completed thanking me for giving him the business.
Description of Work: I had cleaning and repair done on four chimneys in my duplexs. Two chimneys were cleaned, all the fire boxes were cleaned and cracks repaired, two brick chimneys had the mortar ground out and tuck-pointed. One concrete block chimney was rebuilt from roof line up. Both block chimneys were stuccoed. One new top closing cable damper was installed. Four stainless steel chimney caps were installed. Flashings were inspected and repaired as necessary.

I thought I'd reported when Cliff was here last fall, but I didn't! However, I called him back last Thursday to schedule a spring sweep, and he scheduled for today. He was prompt - a little early, even - friendly, professional, and thorough. The price was right, and the work was done as promised. He answered all of my questions and left the woodstove and surrounding areas clean and tidy.I can't say enough good things about this company, and would have no hesitation recommending them to anyone for future work. While on the roof, Cliff also looked at the condition of it for me (it's in excellent shape) and will be contacting me later this week for an estimate on house painting.
Description of Work: I had called for a chimney sweep last fall and thought I had reported my experience then, but had not. I called last Thursday for a spring chimney sweep and general check-up of my wood stove. Fortunately, we had a few dry days in a row, and Cliff was able to come out today to climb on my shake roof, sweep the chimney, and clean out my woodstove. The cost of the original visit was $99 (still very reasonable, I think), and this follow-up visit was $79.
