The installers called me to let me know they were on the way. They were very professional, willing to explain what they were doing when asked. They cleaned up the mess that was made as well as the area in general. In addition they hauled off the old windows and debris created in removing the old windows/patio door and with the installation.
Description of Work: This company gave me a fair assessment of what it would cost to replace my windows and patio door. They maintained contact with me regarding when the would be installed and were timely. They also provided catalogs showing different options

It went poorly. The owner, Ray, came out to the house 3 separate times to measure, putting off our date of install for several weeks. He was dismissive to my husband (a licensed contractor-although Ray didn't know that) and told him he "didn't know how to measure doors correctly", and that he wouldn't be able to install the doors as well as his "journeyman" door crew (was he just trying to inflate his price?). We went with his installers after all because by the time the doors were ready, it was one week before our house was to be painted....and we wanted the doors in by then. We got a call from the secretary (she was always nice on the phone and seemed apologetic) saying that unfortunately, the doors had been delayed and wouldn't be delivered for another 2 weeks! So, our doors were installed after our house was painted :( We had to have the painter come back and paint them (at greater expense to us) later. The doors arrived...one was "custom" because of the large opening it had to cover. The two downstairs were fine. The installers were efficient and friendly and professional. The upstairs door was installed last that day, just as my husband was getting home from work. He went up to look at the door and told the installers, "That's not going to work"....the door (in the middle of 2 glass panels) was only 27 inches wide!!! This is an outside door to a studio apartment above our garage, and the only entry from the outside. Furniture would never be able to be moved through it in either direction. Ray KNEW it was a studio apartment, and could see the couches and other furniture inside and as a professional should have designed it to accommodate the needs of the space. But, it was a 27 inch door :(. Also, we ordered it with blinds inside the glass panels for privacy....within a week, the blinds in the door would not tilt (and still don't). Thus, began a month of phone calls that weren't returned, or were returned many days later by Ray with an excuse that didn't jive with his secretaries explanation. It was obvious he was trying to avoid us. We wanted them to come back, remove the door, and give us our money back. He was mad. Eventually, we received a certified letter stating that we had 2 options: 1. Have them remove the door and refund us the cost of the door only (we loose the installation fee we paid, almost $500) 2. We keep the door and they refund us 1/2 the price of the cost of the door (~$650) It was late September now, winter was around the corner, and the rainy season was upon us...we had no time to find another door, hire another company, wait for it to be made and installed, etc. So, we just opted for #2...got our $650 and were done. We were SO over dealing with that company that we were glad to be finished with them...although now we will forever have a door that will not allow us to move furniture in an out, unless it folds up. And, we feel we definitely paid too much for what we actually got in the end with all three doors.
Description of Work: The company installed 3 french doors in our home and removed old sliding glass doors.

Response from Mountain View Window & Door
We are very sorry to hear that the customer is disappointed with the quality of service that she received with our company. We would like to address some of the concerns she had with her job. 1. We did come out to the house 3 times before the order could be placed. The first time we were out was to meet with the customer to discuss her needs for the project. Her husband was not present for the first meeting. She indicated that she wanted doors quoted for the dining room, master bedroom and guest room. She asked us to quote 3 different options for each door unit. She was very specific in her needs and requests so we went back to the showroom to spend some time to get each door properly quoted. We emailed her the estimate and she responded that she would like to proceed with an order. We then called her to schedule a final measure appointment, which is part of our standard procedure to return to the jobsite and take precise measurements needed for the specific product she had chosen. At that time we create an invoice and collect a customer signature and 1/2 down deposit needed to proceed with the order. We scheduled the final measure appointment with the customer and called and confirmed the appointment the day before. Unfortunately, on the day of the final measure she was not present for the appointment. We spoke with her husband, Jake, who was home and he was unaware of what doors she had selected and we were unable to create a contract because we were unaware of what doors she had selected. We contacted her the next day and re-scheduled the appointment for a day that she could again meet with us. At this appointment we met with the customer and she placed the order for the product she selected without her husband being present. 2. The doors that were ordered were the doors requested by the homeowner. The customer at no time during the estimate voiced concerns about accessibility to the studio apartment or that this was used as the main entrance for this unit. This is not the only access door to the studio apartment, there is another on the other side that leads to the house. It is our policy that when our installers finish a job they go to the customer and explain that the job has been completed and then make sure the job has been completed to their satisfaction and then collect final payment. The installers notes state that the customer told them that she was happy with the install and that she would also like to get another quote on an 8' x 82" bi-pass door unit with 6 panel doors and that she may also change the door hardware out to brass later. The first time we heard of dissatisfaction with 1 of the doors was when her husband Jake called into the showroom upset about the door. When Jake called the store he even made the comment "well how much did she even pay for this door". Jake was the only one to call the store and complain about the door and was the one who demanded his money back. It seemed like the problem with the door lies in a lack of communication between husband and wife over this purchase. If either of the homeowners would have ever communicated a concern about moving furniture through this door way we would have addressed it with them and found other options for the application. We designed a unit that the customer specifically asked for. 3. We would like it to be noted that there was in fact a long lead time on the doors that the customer ordered due to the fact that the sizes ordered for her project were special order / non-stocked sizes. We do not manufacture the products we sell and therefore we are at the mercy of our vendors who supply us the products to us. In the case of the customer's order various items from multiple suppliers were backordered repeatedly. We kept her up to date on lead times as we were made aware of them. The time frame that she had available for the order and installation of the doors was unobtainable even without having delays in product deliveries. 4. The first time we heard about the blinds between the glass not working was in the statement posted here on Angie's List. We would be happy to send the manufacturer representative out to repair this for the customer at no charge due to the fact that it is covered under warranty. We at no time tried to avoid phone calls . They were trying to reach an outside sales person during our busiest sales season. The outside sales person called at his earliest convenience to bring resolution to the matter. We are sorry to hear of their dissatisfaction with their project but we feel that we took every reasonable and fair measure to achieve customer satisfaction.

Overall, the finished product is of very high quality. The only negative part of the experience occurred with the salesman. I thought his sales tactics left a lot to be desired.
Description of Work: We ordered a door from them, and they handled the installation as well.

Everything has turned out really well. They were very responsive to my recent concerns, and I appreciate the fact that they were still willing to perform work under warranty twelve years later. The crew cleaned up after themselves well, and they did a very good job with the window trim and sills.
