Estimate was about $950, but then when they pulled up the old flooring they said that they would have to fill in low spots with a special self-leveling filler and install 1/4" plywood to make the floor level. That cost another $1000, basically doubling the price of the job. After three days the job was finished: the floor slopes so much that a golf ball placed on the floor rolls neatly into the pantry. The slope is visible from the home's entryway. So much for leveling the floor. When I stand at the sink I can hear the floor pop when I move my feet, suggesting that it is not glued down to the subflooring properly. When we went downstairs, we noticed dozens of nails poking through the downstairs ceiling! The company manager came and took a look, agreed that this was not acceptable, and hired a painter to come in and cut the nails, and repaint the ceiling. That work was done well, though it should not have been necessary to do it at all. The manager offered no opinion when I showed him how the floor sloped. When I went to make final payment I asked for and received 20% off the remaining amount on the bill, but I definitely sensed that he was agreeing to this just to get rid of me. In addition to these problems, I had numerous communication problems with the salesperson in charge of the job. No phone calls, long delays responding to e-mails. In fact, I had to call them on the day the work was started to find out if indeed anyone would be showing up, and what time they'd be here. (Answer: they'll be there in about 10 minutes!) This was three days after I gave them a 50% deposit (on the original bid), and I had received no confirmation regarding the date and time of installation. Only after the work had begun did I get a call from the salesperson to say that the edging to go around the entire floor would not be available for another 2 days, so the job could not be completed that day unless I chose a different color of molding. UPDATE: Less than a month after the flooring was installed, we started hearing popping noises every time we stepped on certain areas of the floor, indicating that some part of the floor was not sticking in place. After several weeks of unanswered e-mails and phone calls, they finally sent someone to look at the problem, which had spread to other areas by then. He said the nails were coming loose from the subflooring and he would figure out some way to fix it. Another month passed with no word. A week after I placed a follow-up phone call, I finally got a message that they would come and repair the problem by cutting the vinyl, renailing the subflooring, and then resealing the vinyl. I responded by asking them to call me to set a time to do this work. It has now been over a month, and there has been no response. Now the metal strip between the flooring and the hall carpet is coming up--we noticed it when my husband stumbled over the raised piece of metal! I would never recommend these clowns to anyone. I'm not even sure I want them to come back into my house to fix the problems they created. I'm afraid we would just have new and different problems arise.
Description of Work: Simple replacement of kitchen floor, removing old vinyl and replacing with new.

ORIGINAL ESTIMATE OF TIME TO PERFORM JOB WAS THREE DAYS TO REMOVE EXISTING VINYL AND INSTALL TILE BY SALES PERSON AND ESTIMATOR. WE SCHEDULED TO BE OUT OF THE HOUSE FOR FRIDAY SATURDAY AND RETURN SUNDAY AFTERNOON. WE WERE CALLED SUNDAY MORNING AT OUR MOTEL ROOM THAT WORK WAS NOT GOING WELL AND IT WOULD TAKE ANOTHER DAY TO FINISH. THEY COMPENSATED US BY REDUCING PRICE OF JOB BY $100.00 FOR ADDITIONAL NIGHT AT MOTEL. (HOTEL WAS $185.00 PER NIGHT AT OREGON COAST) UPON ARRIVING HOME MONDAY AFTERNOON JOB WAS STILL NOT COMPLETED AND INSTALLATION OF TILE AT ENTRY TO MASTER BATH HAD UNEVEN TILE SPACING WHICH WAS UNACCEPTABLE TO US AND THE TILE BASE WAS NOT EVENLY OR COMPLETELY GROUTED. WE ALSO FOUND SHEET ROCK DAMAGE TO BOTH BATHROOM WALLS FROM REMOVING VINYL AND SUBFLOOR WE ASSUMED. HAD TO CALL SALES PERSON TO ENQUIRE WHAT THEY PLANNED TO DO. AND WAS TOLD HE THOUGHT INSTALLER WAS DONE. SALES PERSON CAME OUT TWO DAYS LATER TO LOOK AT JOB AND CONFIRMED JOB WAS NOT COMPLETE AND HE WOULD HAVE INSTALLER COME OUT AND FINISH AND REPAIR FLAWS. INSTALLER CAME OUT AND REPAIRED ENTRY TO MASTER BATH AND FINISHED CAULKING BASE AND FLOOR AND SEALED GROUT BUT NEVER REPAIRED SHEETROCK AS PROMISED. INSTALLER BLAMED SALES PERSON AND ESTIMATOR FOR NOT ALLOWING ENOUGH TIME TO DO JOB PLUS INSTALLER HAD BROKEN A BIG TOE THE DAY BEFORE STARTING OUR JOB SO HE WAS HURTING AND UNDER PRESSURE THROUGHOUT JOB. OVERALL THE JOB TOOK ADDITIONAL TIME DEALING WITH SALES PERSON, MAKING APPOINTMENTS TO MEET HIM AND INSTALLER ( I WORK FULL TIME AND MY WIFE IS HANDICAPPED) THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN NESSASARY. THE JOB ONCE COMPLETED LOOKS GREAT, BUT I STILL HAVE TO HAVE SHEETROCK REPAIRED AND REPAINTED BEFORE IT WILL REALLY BE DONE. I WITHHELD MONEY FOR COST OF REPAIRING SHEETROCK.
