It went well. There were issues with a City of Portland inspector who kept changing the rules, which required the electrical subcontractor, Platt Electric, to have to make repeated trips, without extra charge to us. But DPI and Platt were fine--it was just the inspector who didn't really seem to understand the local codes and seemed to be going out of his way to make things complicated. DPI was highly recommended to us by a friend at a time when we were looking at several other contractors. DPI met the best price estimate we were given, they were very good at helping us understand the various options available, and installed components which other contractors said were first-rate. They were responsive to calls and email, and have been very helpful in getting directions and forms to us for filing for our tax credits. We've had only Oregon winter since this was installed, but on a partly-cloudy day, we get 1500 KW production on a system rated for 2700 KW. I anticipate we'll get the full 2700 KW when summer comes. I will add that the price we paid will be greatly decreased with Oregon and other credits that were applicable to 2010. Be sure and work on the figures in your case, as without the tax credits and such, the payoff for solar may be much longer than putting your money in somewhere else, such as insulation. Sort of a disclaimer: if you mention my name to them, I get a commission of some sort; feel free to do that if you want to, but my bottom line recommendation is that if you're looking for solar, at least give these people a chance to bid. We're very happy with the way they worked and the way everything looks.
