Called about a month early to determine if company did duct work. I was told 'yes' they do this type of work and would charge $85/hour plus parts. They could come look at the job site and give an estimate, but they would charge $85/hour to do so..that they would take off the final invoice if I hired them. They gave a rough time estimate to do the work I described, which seemed reasonable to me. They said to call them a few days in advance to do schedule the job. Which I did. It turned out they were able to do the work a day earlier than scheduled which was great. The worker arrived when he said he would. Assessed the job and then left to get the parts. He was polite and friendly. The work was completed within a few hours. The surprise came when he said, "Are you aware of the $150 set-up fee?" No, I'm not. There wasn't a receipt for the cost of the parts either... which they charged $100 (plus I was paying $85/hour while he was getting them).
Description of Work: Relocate one heat duct in kitchen (due to kitchen remodel) and install exhaust cap for new overhead exhaust fan.

The phone call was pleasant enough, but since no one showed up for our appointment and no one called to explain why, I would not recommend this company.
Description of Work: I asked Generations Heating & Cooling to examine my house and existing heating system to determine the feasibility of replacing the old furnace with a ground source heat pump (which would take care of heating and add cooling). After speaking with Karl on the phone, we set an appointment for the following week. No one showed up at the scheduled time. I left a message asking whether or not I had the day/time wrong and have not heard back from anyone.

My wife got me on the phone and I challenged the prices. Svc. rep. said pricing was out of his hands. I declined any service from Generation, but paid the $99 service call. I called Dons Air Care and they diagnosed and repaired for $80 including the service call!! Avoid Generation Heating & Cooling -- they try to rip you off.
Description of Work: Diagnose No-Heat from Rheem furnace. Said would require replacement of Ignition Control Box & Gas Valve, at $500 each. Pushed to replace furnace at $3500!

THIS CUSTOMER HAD A 20 YEAR OLD FURNACE. UNFORTUNATELY THE GAS VALVE ON THIS UNIT WAS, AND STILL IS FAILING. AS ALL OF PORTLAND METRO AREA KNOWS, GENERATION IS A 24 HR SERVICE COMPANY. WITH GREAT REFERRALS. IT WAS A VERY COLD DAY AND OUR SERVICE TECH SHOWED UP, DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM, AND OFFERED TO FIX IT OR REPLACE IT BASED ON THE EQUIPMENT AGE AND CONDITION. GENERATION CALLED THE COMPANY THAT WAS ALLOWED TO PERFORM THE WORK ON THIS FURNACE DUE TO THIS AD, AND HE TOLD US THAT THERE IS NO WAY THAT THEY WOULD CHANGE A GAS VALVE OUT FOR 80 DOLLARS AS THE CUSTOMER DESCRIBED. I requested a quote for a new HVAC system for a 4,000 SF home in Troutdale. Company rep (Charlie Wallen) came to site, picked up plans, left literature on his products and promised a bid in ''3-4 days''. Three weeks and six calls later to both the office and Mr. Wallin's mobile phone produced not so much as a return call. I'd understand if the company's principals had passed away but short of that someone has seriously dropped the ball or they are simply don't care about responding to potential customers.
Description of Work: Request for bid on full HVAC system and ducting for custom, high-end home in Troutdale. Unfortunately no work could be done since the company failed to respond to multiple follow up calls.

THIS CUSTOMER HAD A COMPLETE REMODEL PROJECT AND GAVE US PLANS TO TO THE ESTIMATE. INTERESTING TO SEE THAT THE CUSTOMER NOTED THE PROJECT COST OF BEING 17500, YET DIDN'T HAVE AN ESTIMATE. COINCIDENTLY, THE ESTIMATE THAT WAS GIVEN WAS FOR EXACTLY 17500. HMMM, AND IT WAS SENT TO HIS FIRST FAX NUMBER, IN 2 DAYS OF THE FIRST CONTACT. THEN THE POTENTIAL CUSTOMER CALLED AGAIN AND STATED THAT HE DIDN'T RECEIVE THE QUOTE, AND GAVE US ANOTHER NUMBER TO FAX TO. I THINK THE POINT IS COMING CLEAR HERE. HE ENDED UP GOING W/ANOTHER CONTRACTOR AND TRIED TO GET A BUNCH MORE FROM US THAN THE QUOTE WARRANTED. I feel I was treated fairly and did not pay for things I didn't need.
Description of Work: My furnace stopped working. Generation (Eastside) had a friendly and professional technician at my home within a few hours. The problem was diagnosed quickly, the part obtained and the furnace repaired very quickly.

LOOKED AT FURNACE ON SUNDAY. DETERMINED THAT FAN MOTOR NEEDED REPLACING. URGED US TO GET A NEW FURNACE RATHER THAN FIX IT. CAME BACK ON MONDAY WITH NEW FAN MOTOR. FOUND THAT MOTOR WAS NOT PROBLEM. DETERMINED THAT CONTROL BOARD WAS PROBLEM. SAID BOARD WAS ABOUT $700, AND THAT IT WOULD TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS TO GET IT IN FROM THE MANUFACTURER. AGAIN URGED US TO GET A NEW FURNACE RATHER THAN FIX IT. I FOUND THE CONTROL BOARD FOR THE FURNACE (RHEEM) ON THE INTERNET FOR $298 AND AVAILABLE IN 2 DAYS. WE HAD A 2ND HEATING AND AC COMPANY DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THEY IDENTIFIED THE CONTROL BOARD AS THE PROBLEM, AND A BROKEN CASING HOUSING THE INDUCED DRAFT MOTOR. GENERATION HEATING & COOLING GAVE US AN INCORRECT/INCOMPLETE DIAGNOSIS AFTER 2 TRIES. THEY ALSO GAVE US BAD INFO WITH REGARD TO THE COST OF REPAIR, AND THE TIME TO GET REPLACEMENT PART. THIS WENT ALONG WITH CONTINUAL URGING TO BUY A NEW FURNACE FROM THEM.
Description of Work: DIAGNOSIS OF PROBLEM WITH FURNACE WHICH WAS NOT WORKING. DONE ON THE WEEKEND AT OVERTIME RATES.

OVERALL, A GOOD EXPERIENCE. THE ESTIMATE WAS COMPETITIVE. THE CREW SHOWED UP WHEN THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO, COMMUNICATED WELL, AND CLEANED UP AFTER THEMSELVES. THEY QUICKLY RESOLVED A PROBLEM WITH FURNACE SETTINGS THAT CAME UP IN THE FIRST WEEK.
Description of Work: REMOVED FUEL OIL FURNACE, AND INSTALLED FANCY HIGH EFFICIENCY NATURAL GAS SYSTEM IN ITS PLACE. RAN NEW DUCTS TO AN ADDITION.

A GREAT COMPANY, THEY WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO MAKE SURE WE WERE TAKEN CARE OF. THE SERVICE TECH SEEMED TO HAVE A LOT OF PROBLEMS THAT WERE UNAVOIDABLE, BUT YET, THEY STUCK IT OUT AND FINISHED THE JOB, AND DID A GREAT JOB MAKING SURE EVERYTHING WAS DONE CORRECTLY. VERY IMPRESSIVE, I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE OFFICE, THEY ALSO WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO MAKE SURE WE WERE HAPPY. THANK YOU.
