Best Roofing Company?s crew arrived as scheduled and performed the work in a timely manner.  However, three years after the roof was replaced, we had the house painted and the painter noticed some areas around the dormer roof intersections that were questionable in terms of keeping blowing rain from causing leaks.  We then hired an independent, professional roof contractor to inspect the roof.  The inspector found several issues where the quality of Best Roofing Company?s work was in question. Specifically, the caulking around the dormer roof intersections was questionable and the flashing nails used in that area were rusted (i.e., the old flashing nails had just been reused).  Additionally, the rubber boot for the kitchen vent was the wrong size for the pitch of the roof and thus had a ?dimple? in it that would collect rain.  Also, some of the plastic roof vents were cracked or installed in such a manner that they were warped (i.e. could be expected to leak at some point). 

We contacted Best Roofing with the list of issues the roof inspector had identified and asked Don of Best Roofing to review the work his crew had done.  Don initially said he would look into the issues and emailed us that a work order had been opened. However, after several months of repeated calls with no results, we then went to the Best Roofing Company office and met in person with Don. He finally took action to go look at our roof.  After reviewing the roof work, Don?s response was that it all looked good, but he put down some tar to cover the nails used on the vents (since Best Roofing was using stainless steel nails now instead of the galvanized nails used on our roof).  He also removed the dimple from the kitchen vent boot, but did not replace the boot with the correct size for the roof pitch.  However, what we considered the most serious issue, the dormer roof intersection/flashing and associated caulking, was not addressed. We continue to investigate options on our own to prevent long term leakage in this roof area due to rain associated with blowing wind on the Oregon coast.
