About us

OHI Construction, the Oregon Home Improvement Company, has provided restoration and remodel services to Oregon and Southwest Washington for 65 years and is owned by its third generation of family members. We employ all our own carpenters and use subcontractors for specialty phases. OHI prides itself on providing high quality craftsmanship as some of our carpenters have been with us for over 40 years! OHI strives to build relationships and longtime customer loyalty. Word-of-mouth advertising and a solid reputation for honest, quality work are our best publicity. OHI estimators work primarily with the Xactimate estimating program which is a comprehensive compilation of up-to-date pricing for construction materials and servicing. This enables OHI to work well with insurance representatives to assist customers in working through insurance claims and the unique issues that arise with putting homes and businesses back together after an unfortunate damaging event. Another unique aspect to OHI Construction is our recognition that whether we are repairing a damaged structure or providing remodel services, we understand that the construction process can be daunting and somewhat stressful to customers as they see their structure damaged or in disarray. Our administrative staff, estimators, production personnel and field carpenters have extensive experience addressing customer concerns and acting in a compassionate manner in order to make the process smooth and less stressful to our customers. Finally, with the extensive amount of experience and knowledge shared between all our carpenters and estimators, OHI is able to provide straight forward construction defect consulting and exploratory services. Because we are selective in the type of cases we take and careful to work only with reputable defect attorneys, OHI experts are respected for their sincerity and ability to provide facts and opinions based on working knowledge of construction conditions and issues.

We were matched with OHI through our insurance company. The insurance company ended up opening an investigation against OHI related to the the extensive amount of time the project took. The PM commonly didn't return our calls or emails for weeks at a time. They connected us with a "moving company" who broke multiple items from our daughter's room and were physically unable to move heavy items (which is why we hired them). Their dirty shoes destroyed our carpet. The "moving company" appeared to be a bunch of random tatted friends completely lacking professionalism and reaking of cigarette smoke. We refused to allow the moving company back in our home after the restoration work was completed. They had the audacity to try and bill us for services we never received and initially would not reimburse for the broken furniture. We refused to pay for these things and had ample evidence and support through our insurance company to pursue a small claims defense. This was by far the worst experience we've ever had with an contracting company. At least 4 different occasions the PM said a contractor was coming our for a bid and then they never showed up. We took extensive time of work for this game. When we would inform and confront the PM about the no shows she would not answer and ignore our calls. Although the PM is primarily the one to blame (and shifty contractors) we hold the owners responsible for not responding to our many messages and emails throughout the worst 6 months of our lives. I highly recommend avoiding this company at all costs.

Description of Work: Skylight leak ~ all subcontractors were professional; roofer, dry waller, electrician, painter ~ I am difficult to please. OHI is an excellent company ~ I am truly impressed by their organization of the job as well as timely communication.

Every person we dealt with at OHI was great. They were on time, called if anything changed, were easy to be around and made the construction as easy as possible for us to live with. Their subcontractors were also top notch. Because we had a slow leak, it was not covered by insurance, but they tried. They were helpful at helping us keep the bill as low as possible since it was out of pocket.
Description of Work: Removed and replace cabinets damaged by a dishwasher leak, dried out flooring, repaired outside of house.

While the police and fireman were here; standing outside; I called Servepro as I have seen their commercials for fire and water damage; they said it was not their " kind of job" (not sure if that because no fire or water or too small). So the fireman said they had a list of companies they use for this type of situation. They rotate so this was the company next in line. Their guy was out within the hour after being pulled off another job in OR; assessed the needs and took measurements; then went to buy the lumber; returned and did a good job. I was very pleasantly surprised to see how reasonable the bill was. The guy who came out was very pleasant and professional as was the woman in the office who generated the invoice and e-mailed it over.
Description of Work: Boarded up my front door and entryway after a stolen truck crashed in my home same day knocking in door and doing a lot of interior and exterior damage.

Nate George (Co-Owner) came to our home on 8/4, reviewed the damage and provided an esitmate as to the cost to repair the damage from a water leak. We were told by our insurance company that we would have the estimate within a week. It took Nate almost two weeks to get the estimate to our insurer and then several days for our insurer to get the results to us. I immediately noticed a couple of errors and omissions from the quote. When I first brought this to the Insurer's attenition - they said I would need to discuss this with Nate and that he would have to make the corrections. When I called OHI on 8/21 I was told that Nate was out until after Labor day. No one at OHI could make the corrections - only Nate. We were unable to proceed until after 9/2. On 9/2 I was finally able to speak with Nate by phone - he agreed that corrections needed to be made and that they would add $80 -$100 in our favor to the estimate. He told me that he needed to contact our Claim rep and discuss. He told me that he would do this within the next day or so. In addition, I requested an estimate to upgrade to quartz countertops (at my own expense). He was to send this upgraded estimate to me directly. By 9/10 I had not heard anything from either Nate (OHI) or our insurance company. I called and left messages for both our claim rep and Nate. At 5:50 that afternoon Nate called and left a message for me at my office saying that he had no recollection of our phone conversation on 9/2. That the errors he had made on our estimate were of no consequence and that he would not make the changes to the estimate sent to our insurance company. He said nothing about the additional estimate that I had requested. Through all of the dealings that I have had with Nate; my opinion is that his loyalty is with the insurance company and not with what is right for the customer. If your insurance company is telling you to use this company be wary. They are not providing a service with your interest in mind but rather that of the insurance company. We have never received the additional estimate. This left us thinking that the insurance estimate was low balled and unreasonable - so they would have to greatly inflate the estimate to do the requested improvement. Their front office staff is very cordial and customer service oriented but they are not the people that will be working on your home. After all was said and done we asked for our claim to be reviewed by a manager. Once this was done our insurer has agreed to pay based upon the initial estimate that we had received from a trusted contractor. Neither the original estimate, nor the one prepared by OHI was judged as reasonable.

Oregon Home Improvement Co. redid our flooring and cabinets and installed new appliances. I liked them very much. They did a super job. They were right on time and did everything on schedule. We left for three weeks and they came in and did a whole bunch of work.

They were wonderful to work with. My insurance company worked with them on the costs howver the few upgrades I paid for were priced fair. Most of the subs they used were very good. They guaranteed their work and it was my fault that I did not notice that there was a bit of curling on the wood floors.
Description of Work: My insurance company recommended them to come in and restore my floors, cabinets, walls, etc. after severe water damage.

We had a water pipe break in attic over garage the year we had a very cold winter. Servicemaster came and dried out attic and then we called OHI for an estimate. Company came out promptly when called - came back and did job quickly and professionally. It was a very small job - just replaced small portion of sheetrock in garage ceiling. I believe State Farm Insurance recommended OHI (or Servicemaster).

They provided a detail estimate which was good as I had a whole bunch of small repair jobs that needed to be done around the house and they provided a thorough estimate of details of everything.
Description of Work: OHI Construction just came and gave an estimate about a month and half ago. The estimate was for replacing a door, repairing a window, repairing some kitchen cabinets and five or six things like that.

Description of Work: This was to repair my kitchen, replace floor and repaint after tearing every out. My dishwasher leaked and flooded the whole kitchen. They were excellent and made the project move very smoothly after Service Master removed the water. They did a great job too. Also, Farmer's Insurance was excellent in responding to my crisis.
