Description of Work: Replaced to panes of glass in wood double hung windows in my 1922 Bungalow. They were willing to cut vintage glass that I provided for the window. They also removed two storm window frames. The windows look great. I will definitely use Legacy Glass again.

Person on the phone spent A LOT of time with me explaining the process. They did a great job. I have a crack again and they are replacing at the end of the year guarantee. They even recommended I wait until it's almost up almost a year in case I get another crack.

Driving my Corvette on the freeway when out of nowhere a rock struck my windshield at the lower part of the shaded area, driver's side. Large pit and spiders. I thought I had had it and learned a new windshield would be about a thousand. Tokk it promptly to Glass Doctor. They repaired it on the spot and it is no more obvious than a small spot of dirt. A year ago, the same outfit had replaced the upper window on my Suburban when the plastic hinge wore through. Excellent service and I have had no problems with this.

They quoted us two weeks and it took almost 5 to get the door. We had an appointment for the middle of the day and they called the morning of to cancel because the glass was not correct. They blamed it on a "vendor" and would not take responsibility for the delays and mistake. Both my contractor and I had to speak to them repeatedly and they kept stating it was someone else's fault (the vendor's vendor) even though I ordered from their showroom and paid them. They installed it this morning and after asking several times for some type of compensation they gave us a 75.00 credit. If they would have just taken responsibility for it in the first place and been considerate of my work schedule too then it would not have been such a big deal. The customer service was poor.

Sorry for the delay in responding to this review. Unfortunately I was unable to locate the reviewing party in our database as there was no purchase under this name or address. After speaking with the staff, I was informed that this job was contracted and paid for by one of our general contractors and that is why I was unable to locate it. We are sorry to hear we were unable to meet your expectations. After reviewing the job with our staff, it seems that there were some miscommunications that could have contributed to the problem. The first being a 2 week timeline. Yes, 2 weeks for standard doors is accurate, but when you chose a glass option that was custom (very custom), that timeline changes quite a bit. A custom glass option is never 2 weeks. If that was not properly conveyed to you, I apologize. The second issue is the custom face bevel. This is an option that has been offered by our supplier for a long time, but in our experience is rarely chosen. So, we ordered your door as we do for other clients multiple times a week, leaving it up to the supplier to fulfill the order and ship the completed and correct item to us. In this instance, the supplier elected to sub contract the face beveling of the glass. This is their production decision and we have no say in the matter. Unfortunately, the bevel was not completed to spec and was rejected by the supplier. This delayed delivery to us (twice) and installation to you. We notified you of the problems as soon as they were disclosed to us. We did, unfortunately contribute to the problem when we broke our own policy by pre-scheduling your install. This is against company policy for this exact reason. When we pre-schedule, we are depending on our vendors products to arrive on a future date, correctly manufactured and undamaged in transit. Sometimes, all three of these criteria are not met; and that irritates clients and it also muddles up our schedule. We have to scramble to find another job to fill that time frame, or we have to send the techs home if we cant short notice an appointment. So, let me assure you, no one here is happy when a supplier goofs, but we roll with it because we have suppliers that manufacture exceptional products and they are reliable 99% of the time. As far as “taking responsibility” for the delays; that’s kind of hard to do when we have zero input on their manufacturing processes and shipping. We do, however, often take the blame, as we have here.

It was great. A rock hit my windshield on the highway on a Sunday and I called my insurance. They referred me to the Glass Doctor and since my car is new, they asked me to stop by their shop so they can check it out and make sure they order the correct parts. I went back on Monday to drop it off and they were so nice to give me a lift to work. I picked the car up in the afternoon and it looked like new. I hope I don't have to replace my windshield anytime soon, but if I do, I'll gladly go back again. Nicest service and great repair work.

Over the weekend, I sent an electronic request for service. First thing Monday morning I received a call to schedule someone to come look at the window. They came Tuesday morning and determined they could fix it on the spot. This window is very awkwardly placed and can't be accessed from inside the house. They got the job done quickly and thoroughly. Everyone was friendly and professional.

I have used Glass Doctor several times in the past to perform the same type of repair, including replacing all window screens with new screens including screen frames. They are very prompt in responding to calls; often they can come out the same day as the call. Remade windows are installed within a week of their removal. I'm extremely happy with the quality of the replacement windows and of the personnel at Glass Doctor.

Really went quite well. I was initially surprised that the cost would be as much as it did was but when I balance the cost of replacing siding and repainting for window replacement it was still a good deal. They did help by offering an annual membership that reduced the cost. They were very conscientious about coming back for a re-measure before they came out with the glass. And were kind enough to move a piece of heavy furniture and put it back when done. They are only one of two who actually sent out a thank you for my business.

I called the Glass Doctor and discussed my need, they gave me a price and I made an appointment for the following week. I delivered my vehicle at the proper time (9am), and reminded them I needed to pick it up by noon. I was shown the replacement windshield before installation, since it had some tinting at the top that was slightly different than the old one; it looked good to me. They called at 10:30 and said it would ready at 11am, which was very helpful ( as long as I did not go through a car wash for 24 hours). I am very happy with the windshield, the work, and the 12 month guarantee and free rock chip repair. I haven't driven in the rain yet, so I can't say anything about the quality of the seal, but my guess is it will be fine. NOTE: I gave a B rating for price- I did not get other bids, so I am guessing this is a good price- maybe an A or C would have been more appropriate. No way to choose NA or Don't Know for any of the categories.

The Glass Doctor came out to give us an estimate to replace three windows. Tim called before coming, as they said and was on time. Polite and professional. Answered all our questions and it was obvious he knew his work. The office staff was also friendly and easy to work with. The job from the estimate to finish was quick. We did not get any other bids for this, so do not know how competitive the price was, but it seemed reasonable and therefore booked the job with them. Would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Tim from The Glass Doctor in Lake Oswego replaced three lower windows in our living room. He always wore shoe coverings when inside the house, was professional, quick and cleaned up his work when finished. We called them about the glass in the garden window that is next to the kitchen sink. They came out and replaced that. In addition, we asked them about one of the windows in the kitchen that wouldn't open. It turns out that the window that was there wasn't even the right size. They found a replacement window and came out and replaced it. Both windows are perfect now. We would definitely use them again.

It was and outrageous quote. I called and spoke to the owner and he said he had overhead and trucks to pay for, it was not a satisfactory conversation. It doesn’t matter how nice your trucks are if you are pricing yourself out of the market. He just wasn’t willing to work with us.

Response from Legacy Glass
We’ve read this review several times and mulled it over for a while; that's why we have not responded until now. First let me say that its been six months since this quote was given, so it’s a mystery as to why someone would bother to give such a harsh review on a phone quote that was given half a year ago. Secondly, This is our recollection of the situation based on our system notes. This customer called in for a phone quote. We took the sizes and specs from the caller and provided a phone quote based on that information. The caller apparently thought it was an acceptable quote because an appointment was scheduled. At a later time, someone called (not sure if it was the original caller or someone else from the household) and expressed displeasure with the amount. Now, let me just say that this phone quote was at best a “guess-timate” considering the job was super labor intensive (80+ year old wood putty hack outs). In fact, we normally don't give phone quotes on this type of repair because there are so many variables; ie wood type, putty previously used, repaired before?, weather exposure, painting layers, dry-rot, etc. Ideally, we would like to see the situation for ourselves and quote on site (we offer free quotes). However, if the customer insists, we try to give a ballpark figure over the phone. We always qualify on the phone and are very clear that we verify sizes, specs, and pricing on site before any work is started. In regards to the person that called in and had a unsatisfactory conversation with one of the owners; sometimes people get offended when you are honest with them. Unfortunately, we do have overhead to cover and we do have professional experienced glaziers and we do have insurance and workers compensation and a lot of other expenses that “legitimate” companies have. When comparing our services/prices to the handymen (often not licensed or insured and often don't have workers compensation which becomes a huge potential liability to the homeowner if the worker was to become injured on their property), there is going to be huge differences in the finished product provided and of course differences in prices. As far as pricing ourselves out of the market, we wouldn't be in our 33rd year serving the Portland area if that were the case.

My car windshield had a stone chip that I wanted repaired. When I took it in they showed me that my car actually had two chips; I never would have noticed the other so I'm glad I was there. The additional charge to fix the second chip was minimal and the overall time of service was very fast. My wife's car got a stone chip / crack about a month later and I didn't hesitate to take it there for repair. Unfortunately the window was damaged beyond repair but they were able to replace the window at a very competitive price. I hope not to need any more window repairs but I'll definitely use them again if the need arises. Service was excellent and everyone there was friendly.

Each of our two vehicles had cracked windshields. Neither interfered with our vision while driving so we'd put off replacing them for several years. We decided it was time to have the work done. We called Glass Doctor to schedule the work. She took our information and asked if we planned to file an insurance claim. She offered to call the insurance company for us while she stayed on the line. In one phone call we were able to schedule the work, file the insurance claim and Glass Doctor had the information they needed from the insurance company for both vehicles. We scheduled two appointments. The check in process was easy. They said they'd call when the work was completed which they did do. When we picked up the vehicle, they explained the dos and don'ts of how to treat a new windshield. They were very efficient, the work was done well. And if the windshields become cracked within a year, they will replace the glass free [customer pays labor charges].

Thank you for your kind words and positive review. We wanted to let you know that if your new windshields become damaged due to road hazard during the next year, you would only be responsible for the cost of the molding (the cosmetic trim piece that covers the gap between the body of the vehicle and the windshield). For your Safari Van, that would be around $40 and there would be no charge for the Grand Cherokee. Everything else is covered by the G-12 including the new windshield, labor to install, all primers, and sealants. Again, thanks for the review and we look forward to working with you again.

Thanks for the positive review. Also thank you for mentioning your insurance company. Many people dont realize they have the right to take their vehicle to the windshield replacement company of their choice. Many insurance companies use third party billing companies that attempt to steer customers to their own replacement locations. This is illegal, but happens every day. We are approved and authorized to complete work for 99% of insurance companies out there. Please dont let those claims factories steer you to an inferior replacement location. We have the most experienced, best trained and certified technicians and the best warranties offered in the industry. Ask about our G-12 warranty. No one else has it.

I'm so glad that you posted a review and were so understanding with our mistake. I cant tell you how badly our CSR felt about the mix up. She took complete responsibility for it and did everything in her power to shuffle the schedule to accomodate your job as quickly as possible. And you are exactly right in that sometimes stuff happens; and we do our best to own our mistakes and make it right for our customers. But its definately much more pleasant to work with individuals such as yourself that allow the interaction to remain a positive one even after an unexpected issue arises. We appreciate your kindness, your understanding, and your positive review. We look forward to working with you in the future. Please call anytime.
