We had gotten an advertisement flyer from Lee Majors for roof cleaning and called for a bid. He seemed like a friendly and responsible person, so we agreed for him to do the work, but unfortunately didn't get any other bids for our roof. The pressure washing made our roof look like new, but when they washed off our house siding, we had water leaking in our windows and under our doors (which I think we should have been warned about). We later found a ceiling wet spot from the pressure washing, and Lee assured us that area of the roof was repaired. It was not, because it leaked in the same area over a year later with heavy rain. We called him to repair the area, but he was busy for a couple weeks. We couldn't wait, and had to pay another company to repair the leak. After this I called to have him stain the new shakes, but he kept saying call back.... call back... after 7 months he finally stained the shingles. It is only 2 years since our roof was cleaned, and it is already having mildew/moss staining. Lee had said the roof would be fine for 4 years. Other roof cleaners have told me that our roof should not be looking this bad so quickly, so I know we will be calling someone else to fix things in the near future.

I did not solicit a bid from anyone else, unfortunately, because I had done business with him for a long time. His charge was $33,000 and he did not itemize the list. I paid a little over $10,000 directly to the cedar shake company. The roofing was done quickly and the workmen were neat. Mess was kept to a minimum and cleaned up daily. Some dry rot was discovered on the garage roof and rotted wood was replaced. A leak appeared in the outside breezeway after the roofing was done. Lee came over quickly 3 times to work on it, finally fixing it. However, February in 2009 a bulge appeared in the plaster on an inside wall that was near the leaking area and it cracked. I have just had it opened up and repaired. The wall repair company said there was evidence that it had been wet 8 months ago. The other problem with Lee Majors is that I needed some work done on the copper gutters. Lee brought over a gutter man who gave me a low bid, around $9,000, for replacing all the gutters to aluminum. I checked on that person with the Contractors Board and learned that he had not been licensed since the mid 1990?s. I told Lee that I did not want to replace all the gutters, that I did not want aluminum ones, and would not hire his unlicensed gutter man. By that time he and his workers had already started removing some of the gutters, ruining them. Plus, the roofing covered the straps to which the gutters were attached. It has been difficult to find someone to replace and repair the gutters. It is costly and difficult due to what Lee Majors did.

Every month after December I called to find out when he'd bring back the shake. Each time he said he'd been busy, but soon. Finally, on July 12, I sent him a letter, saying I'd press complaints. Still no response as of August 4, 2006.
