This company was great, It took a bit of communication back and forth, do to my lack of knowing just how these things get done.. Thanks to Mary in sales and customer service, we were able to come up with an estimate for services. I accepted the bid and the guys were at my home at 8 AM on the appointed day ready to get started. I was barely out of bed yet, because who ever heard of workman to be prompt these days? Well these guys were!!! They came in, put up dust screening and got to work.. It was a tricky install were the counter had to be widened on both sides of the old drop in range (27 inch) space and counter formica maybe 40 yrs.old had to be cut, hard to do without chipping.. A few hours later they brought in the new range (30 inch stand alone slide in) and went out of their way to make sure the right electric receptacle was installed, and in went the range.. They thoroughly cleaned up the work space and picked up all the cardboard from unwrapping the new range in the garage. I would highly recommend this company and team, they were outstanding.. At a very reasonable cost, (way under bid) considering I didn't have to replace my perfectly good kitchen cabinets just to have a new range.. DN homeowner.. A very happy customer !!

Thank you for the business and we look forward to working with you on your next project.
As a single woman I sometimes wonder if I'm seen by service providers as a "soft touch"--but I was so impressed with the honesty and professionalism of everyone I encountered from In Your Home. Timely estimate, site kept tidy, work was done exactly as specified, and the guys on site were careful to check in with me frequently to be sure we were on the same page. My neighbors are giving me compliments on my beautiful new fence! I wish I'd done these projects years ago instead of putting them off. The work was not cheap, but all of it was done at a fair price and to a very high quality standard. I got 100% of what I paid for. I will use In Your Home again for sure, and I'm so happy to now have a "go-to" team I can trust.

A representative from In Your Home came to our home in mid-April, to begin an estimate to replace our floors. We never got the estimate. In early May, I left a voice mail and sent an e-mail, then called again. After the second call I received an email from the rep telling me she had family health issues and had taken time off, and that we would get our estimate soon. We have never heard back. Since then we put the project on hold and will find another contractor. I hope everyone is OK, but it would have been nice to have some closure.

We appreciate the feedback and are disappointed and certainly regret dropping the ball with this client. We failed to recognize that this opportunity and request for service was stalled and needed another team member to step up and follow through with the client. It's also a shame as we had previously worked with this client and received "A's" across the board for work we performed at their home. Great client relationships and earning their repeat business is what we desire and foster regularly and is why our business has grown and thrived over the last 15 years. We will redouble our efforts and have taken steps and developed new procedures to ensure valued customers like this family don't get lost in the shuffle.

the work was done to a reasonable quality. however we were quoted the job taking 11 hours ( at hourly costs) and it took 16 1/2 hours so the cost went up considerably compared to the estimate. We also had a "dump fee" added to the cost of the invoice which was a surprise as the original estimate included removing the old materials. When I questioned this cost, it was removed from the invoice. Beware the hourly cost estimates; you even pay for the time the handyman goes to the store to buy his tools, materials etc.

We believe this review is very unfair and very unaccountable of the client. This client was provided a written estimate clearly stating our offer for the requested scope of work. Hourly rate, how we charge for materials and a reasoned estimate of expected charges. The client accepted our offer. The client then added scope to the work order so is should come as no surprise that the actual hours required were more. This client, a local physician, attempted to argue the billing hourly rate charged after the service work was complete... not fair. Can you imagine what this physician charges for an hour of their time? Our fees for skilled tradesman is very competitive in this market (as hundreds of AL reviews convey). We consider feedback a gift at "In Your Home" and will certainly take this client's experience to heart and be ready to improve where we can. After over 15 years of success delivering remodeling and handyman services to our clients, we know this is a result of experienced, professional staff whom we pay an honest wage and respectful benefits. We live simply putting our energy into maintaining quality staffing that delivers quality workmanship and we warrant our work. We pride ourselves on our customer service taking appropriate action whenever needed to address clients concerns. We believe the client has received excellent quality workmanship, at a very fair price from a team of professionals. The client even received a warranty follow up visit (no charge) to help them understand how to activate a dead bolt lock. We wish the client well.

The team was awesome! Starting with a firm design plan, detailed specifications, reasonable price quote and diligent change- order process. I had the luxury of time to schedule the job several months into the future and once on the calendar, they hit the ground running! I was able to toss them the keys to the place and vacate while they did the work. They provided regular updates with pictures and progress reports. They kept to the schedule and completed on time with just a minor punch list that was easily knocked out. Most important, each member of the team was a delight to work with, friendly, accommodating, can do attitude. Quality of workmanship was excellent.

I contacted them and two people came out to the house to ***** my needs. It was determined that I was in need of grab bars in the bathroom near the toilet and also in the shower. A higher toilet was also needed as well as a wheel chair ramp to the garage. There was also a recliner upstairs that I needed moved into our downstairs bedroom. I needed the work done within a few weeks. About a week before the surgery, two workmen came out and spent about 5 hours here doing the work. The were very professional, did a great job on all of the work and cleaned up after themselves. I would highly recommend them for anyone in my position.

Pat's work was superb, and he had good suggestions for problem areas. He had the experience and tools to handle the many jobs I needed done, including several on farmhouse sinks that make plumbing and accessories very difficult to access. Every granite, engineered-stone, and antique tile surface was treated carefully, all the sites left clean and neat. Fixtures to be donated to Habitat for Humanity were left neatly arranged with all their small parts. Will definitely have Pat or others from this company return when needed.

I'm delayed in writing this review, but In Your Home was great! Our original plan was to remodel our small master bathroom and to have the washer hoses moved in our laundry room to accommodate our plan for a slightly different laundry configuration. Well, we found asbestos in the walls and floor and then the laundry room turned into a fuller laundry room/bathroom remodel. Both Mikes and Jeff were really great at communicating and very flexible with us as the plans changed, and Jeff's workmanship was outstanding. The tiling in the master bathroom is amazing - so much attention to detail and it looks even better than we could have imagined. As the project evolved, I appreciated how well they worked with us (we did some of the painting and furniture assembly) to make it as cost-effective as possible. They turned rooms we hated into rooms we love (see some before and after pictures). I heartily recommend them!

The install went very well. However, when a confirmation was sent to the office that we would like to schedule work to be done, the office worker failed to respond after 2 emails. With only a week left to meet the deadline I was finally able to reach the office and set up the work to be done
Description of Work: install garbage disposal and new outside door and casing. Seal around foundation
Brief summary: the quality of the workmanship is good; it can be excellent if IYH dedicates an experienced master tradesman to direct the work. Unless you have a small, well-bounded project for which you know with absolute certainty the scope of the work, you should avoid Time and Materials like the plague. I was offered Time and Materials as a way to get started quickly; it ended up taking longer, costing more, and introducing far more stress than necessary. If you’ve got a large project, you may be better off looking elsewhere for a general contractor regardless. Longer version: We closed on a fixer-upper on August 23rd; we needed to have it renovated before my family (including a three-year old and twin infant babies) could move in and sell our old home. IYH was the only company that could get started right away (using Time & Materials); every other company was booked up two months out. What didn’t become clear until much later was that IYH didn’t actually have the resources available to complete the work in a timely fashion. We finally got everything done as of Dec 4th; this did include the addition of a couple substantial projects; but we also dropped a number of line items as well. The biggest problem is that the project coordination was incoherent, which I believe stemmed from the fact that the project coordinator had no direct knowledge of our property. I almost didn’t do business with them because the first Time & Materials estimate quoted completely different work than what I had asked for; I had sent a clear list of items that I wanted addressed together with the inspection report, but for some reason the project coordinator largely disregarded it and derived her own list from the report. We managed to get that sorted out, but from that point on tradesmen would be scheduled ad hoc without an understanding that A had to happen before B; for instance, on some occasions the painter would show up and wouldn’t be able to do anything because prerequisite work had not yet been completed. When working with Time & Materials, IYH also assigns tradesmen basically as they become available; so we would continually get a new set or at best a rotation of tradesmen who would arrive without knowing what the previous guys had done, and they would either need direct guidance from me (a nice 40 minute commute each way) or else they wouldn’t know what to do and they might just start working on the wrong thing. The project coordinator also had a difficult time keeping track of key milestones; for instance, we needed to have all the painting done before Sept 25th when we had scheduled hardwoods work by another company. I could never receive a clear commit about whether or not those sorts of milestones could be met; and in spite of many conversations on the subject, there would still be whole weeks at a time when no work was scheduled. In some cases, work wouldn’t be scheduled due to the lack of understanding about our home; for instance, nothing would go on upstairs if an abatement was going on in the basement, despite the fact that the abatement downstairs in no way prohibited access to the upstairs. Every single Time & Materials quote that we received, of which there were roughly 10, was underestimated. Decisions would sometimes be made on my behalf, usually incorrectly; for instance, during the abatement, there was some question about whether the vinyl under some cabinetry should be removed. Without consulting me, the project coordinator told the crew that it was okay to stay, so the abatement guys had to come back out, and we had to foot the bill for it, although I’m told it was discounted. On other occasions, IYH would pull people off the job in the middle of some task or project; in one case, they sent the master tradesman to another site at noon one day while he was in the middle of replacing a beam up in the attic; in turn, we ended up with a temporary wall in our kitchen (and a nice tripping hazard for the walking members of the family) until IYH could manage to find the resources to come back and finish the job. In the end, we ended up having to live in the heart of on-and-off construction for a couple months and had to delay reroofing of our home due to various missed milestones. At one point I sent a note expressing my frustration about the scheduling, but there seemed to be no acknowledgement that there was any problem whatsoever; the response I received suggested they thought they were doing us a favor. IYH also really gouges you on the materials cost. Basically they charge you $69/hr for someone to procure the materials, but then they hit you with an additional 25% markup. Obviously, when you’re dealing with big purchases, this really burns. On numerous occasions, I would receive a call the day before, or sometimes even the day of, saying that the tradesmen needed (for instance) all the pre-hung doors now and would I mind if IYH sourced it for me? So, on these occasions, I would have to drop everything I was doing to go and make these purchases just to avoid getting hit with the extra cost – another nice 40 minute commute each way. On the whole, the workmanship is good. Rich Griffiths and Joe Kuester were really excellent, both detail-oriented and very conscientious about their work; everything they touched turned to gold. There were a couple doors that were misinstalled (by other IYH tradesmen) but IYH corrected those and didn’t charge me for it. One tradesman also put a 20A hood on a 15A breaker; I’m still waiting for that item to be addressed. Overall, my experience with IYH was largely neutral. As mentioned above, all the tradesmen who worked on our home are great. We would *adopt* Rich Griffiths and Joe Kuester if we could. If there were a way for me to hire the tradesmen directly without all the project coordination chaos, I would. However, given all the troubles that come with the project coordination piece, I’m probably going to look elsewhere for the remaining work to be done around our property, of which there is a lot. If you do decide to work with IYH, here are my recommendations: 1. Avoid Time & Materials unless your project is small and extremely well-defined. 2. Try to get IYH to commit to dedicating a master tradesman to direct the work. 3. Have that individual come out and visually observe your property before the work starts; if you’ve got a big project, make sure that person is looking for other things that might need to be addressed as part of the work. 4. Try to get a clear committed timeline for the work; IYH should commit in advance to some sort of compensation to you if they miss their timeline. If you can’t get this, I recommend pulling out before you get started and go with a different company. 5. Plan on calling IYH on a daily basis to remind them of your schedule and your needs, and to make sure that they understand when work should and should not be scheduled. You need to be a PITA; no one else is going to look out for your best interests. If you don’t bug them a lot, they’ll forget you exist.
Once work actually started it went well. The only real issue was that they weren't available to start the project until December (pushed back from November) and I had contacted them and got the bid in August. I only graded as good since it was a garage remodel it didn't need to be the most pristine job so there were a few details that were still left very rough when the job was done. I had considered adding on some more work as a change order but due to scheduling it would have been a while before we could have had it done.

The work was fine. But the bill was much higher than the estimate, and they have some administrative problems. It took me a week to make contact, and then only because I got through to the owner, Brian Bartholomew. I almost always had to leave a message when I called, because no one was there to answer. Mary Crabtree emailed a "guesstimate" of $1613 for 2 men - 2 days based on my description over the phone. She sent Rich out in Sep to scope it out for an estimate. On Sep 24 I got an email from Mary with the revised price of $3037. I hesitated, because of the higher price, but finally agreed to have them do the work. We agreed on Oct 5-6. I didn't notice that the boilerplate instructed me to give an "OK to proceed" via return email, so they didn't show up. We rescheduled the work (don't recall the date), but they had to cancel at the last minute because of an emergency. The work was finally done Oct. 23-25. The bill that followed was $4708! I called, left an angry message and Mary called back. She gave me a 5% discount, so the final bill was $4473, which I paid. I feel that they should have had a better idea of the total cost after Rich was out. Going from $1600 to $3000 to $4700 is outrageous.

In Your Home did an outstanding job! I decided to replace my vinyl kitchen floor with an oak floor, and extend the oak floor into the family room. The job turned out just as we had discussed, at exactly the price we discussed. Austin, Joe and Josh worked quickly, but not hurriedly---and the quality of the work was just outstanding. I think I got excellent value for all the work that was done. In Your Home also did a major bathroom remodel about a year ago at my Mom's house to retrofit an old bathroom as an Aging-In-Place project. That project turned out excellent as well! I highly recommend this company, particularly if you are interested in work quality and business integrity.

In Your Home is a company that says the right things but was unable to deliver on their promise. We had been saving for a bathroom remodel since we bought our house nine years ago. The company that installed a hand control device in our car does this work and I spent some time in May talking to them about their process and capabilities, but they were booked out until October. I created an account on Angie’s List to look for other contractors who could perform this work and came across the listing for In Your Home and it seemed perfect: not only could they do a bathroom remodel but they specialize in aging and disability remodels. We could have gone with a local contractor – we usually try to shop local – but we decided to stick with a company that specializes in this type of construction. We set up an in-home meeting on June 6 to go over our thoughts and let them scope out the existing space. Everything came up normal and their planner didn’t have any concerns with creating a zero barrier shower with hand rails all around, a fold-down seat, and grab bars on either side of the toilet. We declined their plans for a fence-and-sail backyard enclosure that would cover a hot tub from the Gorge winds and rain, but figured the planner just didn’t understand that rain would whip through the space between the two up until the winds ripped the sail into the neighbor’s yard. At this point, he was estimating 10 work days with a possibility of extending to 14 based on variables. Fast-forward to the end of June, when we select tile and sign the contract. Add a couple weeks for tile to arrive and we should be in business. Except the barn door that the planner chose was discontinued and we needed to pick a new door. These things happen and we didn’t even have tile, yet; the door in the original plan had three panes of frosted glass but all the current choices only had one, no big deal. Two weeks after that, work begins and we get our first invoice. Not for a down payment or for the first installment, but for $140 for the variances in the cost of the door. Their employee is there for part of the day for prep work and will return the next day for the demolition. Work resumes until the plumbing inspection needs to be done and they can’t get ahold of the subcontractor to call for the inspection and we lose a day. These things happen. Three days later we get the real invoice for the first $6k of work. Second and third week go in fits and spurts: we’ve got a second worker there but the first one is pulled off to work on a different job for part of the time. As construction moves along, we see grab bars installed and then the adjustable height showerhead…which attaches to a grab bar and maxes out at 5’7” tall. Their planner, who specializes in disability remodels, did not account for the loss of height when placing the grab bar. They just manage to get the toilet installed before they leave at the end of the 15th day. One worker shows up to continue on Monday and we end up with a shower but no door (it’s in the room, but not installed) and he announces that he has to start work on a different project and doesn’t know when he’ll be back to finish. On the plus side, we get a chance to see the door and the frosted glass pane looks like it lets in a lot of light. We lean it up against the opening to the bathroom and it lets through almost as much light as not having a door at all. We decide to go away from the planner’s design and go for a solid door, so at least their delay had one positive result. On the down side, we realize that the plan never called for towel racks. Fast-forward two weeks and we still don’t have a door but I do have a final invoice. The initial variance invoice is now reporting as overdue, although we’re sure to have additional variances with the change to the changed door. Their crew lead is over the following week to review the work that’s been done, the work that needs to be re-done, and what is left to finish. The work that needs to be re-done are items that are I would expect to see if I had hired any contractor, rather than a specialist: tiled corners are cut square and not mitered, grab bars around the toilet were not installed at equal distances from the seat, grout was missing from the final inch of a pair of tiles, the center tile in the shower was noticeably (in bare feet) higher than the surrounding tiles. The lead agrees that the work isn’t up to their usual standards and will assign someone to finish up the main job and address the mistakes. Work finally wrapped up one full month after they stopped working on our project to work on a different project and eight full weeks after construction began. Some of that was due to the change in the door. On the other hand, we let a lot of things slide just to get them out of our house. Which is strange because every person that we have met has been really nice – and that was a big concern with letting strangers have free run of the house. But they just weren’t able to deliver the specialized, expert remodel to go with their cost and initial schedule and pulling crews off the job before the initial scope of work is complete is beyond frustrating. Our experience may be completely atypical, but we won’t be asking them to bid on any future work and would not recommend them to friends.

Response from IN YOUR HOME
We were very disappointed to learn of this client's less than satisfactory experience and have completed a full review. Before learning of this review, a follow up visit by staff to the client's home was completed and many of the identified work project concerns were addressed. Discussions with our staff as well as a follow up interview with the clients has allowed us to arrive at the following conclusions and action plan for course correction moving forward. Key findings... our primary failing was keeping the client informed as to what was happening and ineffective communications as to our plans and progress. A door change-order decision was allowed to linger and remain unresolved long after the majority of project work was complete along with a few punch list items such that the client's frustration built to the point that everything imaginable became a focus of their dissatisfaction. Our internal standards for effective client communications / management was not met and we believe the combination of new staff plus insufficient managerial attention allowed an environment of silence and confusion to exist. This is unacceptable and inexcusable and we have taken corrective action to ensure it isn't repeated. Our standards were not followed and as a result the client got a less than acceptable experience. With regard to workmanship and quality... in our assessment the client received a well built, beautifully tiled accessible shower with sleek linear drain and other smart accessible features to enable their independent living. As with any project the finishing touches for surfaces and fixtures may require a follow up visit and for this project once identified our business is and will always be ready to respond. Our warranty is very much intact and we will respond if and whenever the client reaches out. Just a few other points of clarification... this project and the majority of deliverables were completed in 16 consecutive workdays; change orders create opportunities for schedules to extend and budget spend to increase. We work hard to quickly resolve details for a change order and we need client's cooperation and support for making decisions in a timely manner. We at In Your Home are dedicated to providing quality repairs and remodeling that will wear well and that represents great value for the dollars paid. Not promising perfection but rather a dedication that we will do it correctly or we'll make it right! We are committed to staying on the job until we finish it. We regret this client's less than acceptable experience and believe we understand where we fell short. And in the end, we believe a quality result exists and will endure for the long-term as we also promised. Respectfully, Brian Bartholomew
We are very happy with our new bathroom! This was a studs out, total remodel. The original estimate for completion was for 4 to 6 weeks however, The entire project took about 8 weeks from start to finish due to various circumstances that arose and were beyond anyone's control. (We have a smaller, second bathroom with a shower so we weren't inconvenienced very much.) All of the various workers on this project worked efficiently and professionally. The communication was great! They listened to our concerns and bent over backwards to make sure that we were happy with the work that was being done! We were never in the dark about anything and they always cleaned up at the end of the day! Many thanks to Michael Brennon who, with his lovely wife, helped us design this project while keeping our budget in mind! Very special thanks to Mike Meghan and Joshua Ash who were the lead contractors on this project as well as their awesome crew! (I'd name them all but I know I'd forget someone!)

Some Good. Some Lacking. The Dry Wall Repair was completed fine after a call back for some minor issues. The Deck Repair was incomplete as quoted and never received an updated Quotation so work was not initiated or completed. I wanted to clarify a previous review that was made after reflection on how I rated the Company. I was frustrated over not receiving a corrected quote on the Deck and gave them an overall grade of 'F". That was a little Severe and I would like to change that to a "C" considering that the Sheet Rock was completed as quoted and my only critique is not receiving a corrected quote on the Deck which may have been accidently overlooked.
