I thought John's work was very well done.
Description of Work: John arrived on time and went right to work. I live in an older mobile home and the fixtures may be out of date; also the work that had been done previously was not professional. So John had a difficult job to do, but he stayed with it until it was finished and done properly. I doubt that that pipe will ever leak again and if it does, I know I can call John.

We've been very, very pleased with David from In your Home. Every time he comes out, he's just done a fantastic job. He's efficient. They can trust the handyman that are there. They are very well trained and polite. They are attentive to what you want. They do not over charge you, I found them to be very fair.
Description of Work: He did a lot of handyman stuff. Some of the work were; he installed a banister for us, he helped us figure out how to hang heavy things on the walls that were plasters and not dry walls and he fixed some doors that were jammed.
Called them based on referral from Angie's List. Office staff were warm, friendly & helpful. Estimate range was given( within about a week) since there was a question about whether the range hood was repairable or needed replacement and how much work the door jamb would need. Think it was abt two weeks before they could do the work. We didn't push because none was urgent. The workman was great. Easy to work with, could discuss decision points with us, came back to finish a few details. All in all, very satisfied & will use them again.
Description of Work: Exterior door & lock set replaced & door jamb reworked, new toilet provided & installed, stove hood replaced.

Overall it went very well. I am pleased to have the project completed and the sink useable. It has been a project that my husband has been intending to do for the past couple of years but due to a health problem and general aging has not been able to do. John was sensative to the fact that this was a guy who used to be pretty handy in his own home but it is just getting harder to get the job done.
Description of Work: Called another handyman service. Unfortunately their response time was very inefficient, although the guy was very pleasant when I finally spoke to him. In the meantime I called IYH. They got right back to me with an estimate by email within a day or so. The work was scheduled within a week of initial call. I had a bar size sink replaced in a new base cabinet in a lower level family room. John arrived right on time and we looked at the project. They had not done an onsite estimate but since there was existing plumbing I guess the job was fairly predictable. He got right to work cutting the counter top then took a break to run to Home Depot to get some additional supplies. He charged me the lower hourly rate for the shopping trip. Then back to work and the job was finished in the estimated 4-6 hours. Looks great. He gave me an itemized bill before leaving which was followed up by email with a formal bill. No surprises. Final cost came in at the estimate. John was a very genial guy who answered my questions (since I am the mistress of the house!) and definitely knew what he was doing. I had the feeling he was doing the job as if he were in in own home. In fact he said as a homeowner himself there is not much he can't do or hasn't done but knows when to turn it over to another professional.

We apologize for not responding sooner, we should have acknowledged the email when it arrived last week. We get many requests for non-profit work and it takes time to consider them, including checking the validity of the organization. If you had made a telephone call to us, as many other charitable groups do, (or if you had made the request from within the Angie's List system rather than a random email), you would have gotten a faster response I'm sure. As it was, we had a number of questions about the request. It does not seem to be something in our bailiwick and it went into a pile of similar requests for us to process when time allowed. None-the-less, we should have acknowledged your email and apologize for not doing so. Good luck finding someone to manufacture these units for you and helping your positive work.

I contacted IYH and spoke to Roseanna to get an estimate and timeframe as we were in a hurry. The new counter was on the way. We had gotten about a third of it out before we realized that the counter was hill jacked in there and we were in way over our head with the demo. Roseanna at first had said that she had openings on Weds, Thurs, Fri of that week and she would get back to me. Didn't hear from her so called on Weds. She was waiting to hear from someone and would call me back. We played this game for a few days and finally got the guy out here to do the work. He called that morning and said he had an emergency and would be late. He showed up at 9:13. No big deal. Things happen sometimes. He did a good job. Tore out the counters and backsplash, drywalled with rough coat of mud, and cleaned up afterward. It took a while to get the bill and when I did it was quite a bit more than the quote and I eliminated the finishing of the drywall to be more cost effective. I told Roseanna that she charged me for the hour that he was late and she said she would look into it and get back to me about the bill. She never did, so I deducted one hour from the rate stated and paid the bill. A couple weeks later I got a reminder that I still owe $69. Seriously?!?!

We apologize for the delays the member experienced, we continue to try to set a high bar for responsiveness but sometimes we are swamped. However, we do need to disagree with the member on the comment that our bill was more than our quote. We sent the member an email that was clearly labeled as a rough quote based on the information she had provided to us. The budget range provided was for 6 to 8 hours of work at a cost of $419 to $572 and her bill was for 8 hours and $542. We were within the budgeted range despite the backsplash which we removed being much larger than the member had measured. We also had to disconnect the sink and disposal which was not factored into the original quote. Additionally, we invested time away from the job site disposing of the waste materials which the member did not factor in nor did we charge for. The invoice was mailed 4 days after the job was completed. We have responded directly to the member apologizing for the slow communications and removed the disputed $69 since we were not able to address her concerns in a timely manner.

I had vacation time and changed plans. They were able to come out quickly, provide an estimate and get the work completed within the time I needed. My goal includes another bathroom remodel as well so I got estimate for entire project with areas separated so I could decide how much to do when. Brian offered additional ideas and options. This step included removing bathroom flooring, fixing minimal leak damage underneath, replacing toilet and installing new floor. The new toto toilet tank leaked just a tiny bit and they came out to adjust/try to fix it (coming early and late on my schedule), but ended up replacing it. They also did the finishing work on a sliding glass door friends had installed earlier. Both bathroom and door look great.

I called on behalf of my mother who needed to have someone install handicapped bars for my dad who is in hospital. The woman who answered my call was very nice. I explained that we needed them right away since we weren't sure when he would be released. She rearranged some schedules to shift David Kelley from a current job to ours since she felt he would be most qualified for our needs. She was able to secure availability for the next day, and told me to expect a call from him before he arrived.David called at 11 to let me know he was running behind schedule for our 1pm appointment and to verify what color bars we preferred, and again when he was leaving for our job. He arrived at 1:45. He was professional and friendly. He brought the bars he thought we would need. We led him to the bathroom, where he made suggestions about where bars should be, which bars and what height. He was patient with my mom who was a little emotional about the whole thing. He made measurements and marks. We had a coupon for $40 off with three hours work, and my mom wanted to show him what else she wanted him to do. He fixed every single wobbly cabinet door in the kitchen, checking all of them instead of just working on the few bad ones pointed out. He then went to install the bars in the bathroom. When I went in to let him know that I was going, he was cleaning out the shower head. When he was cleaning up after the installation, he felt the shower head wasn't working right. He said he hoped I didn't mind that he was fixing it. He made the whole thing work better than it has for a long time. My mom was delighted with the work, he did an excellent job of installation, and he was patient and respectful of her hearing loss and need to read his lips.
Description of Work: installed disabled bars in bathroom, both near the toilet and in shower and near sinks. Tightened cabinet doors in kitchen, cleaned out hand held shower to reduce sediment, fixed diverter valve on hand held shower and installed new shower head.

While looking for a cabinet repairman, I found this handyman company that specializes in accessibility as well as cabinets and decided to give them a call. The lady who answered the phone politely asked if I could wait until she finished with her current call, then asked questions to determine what kind of service I would need. She said she would plan to schedule a repairman who is experienced in the types of work I wanted done. I told her that although there is alwasys a caregiver at the house, I would need to be there for this and would have to schedule time to leave work so would need a specific time but that Monday or Tuesday should work fine. . She asked if she could call back in the next 30 to 90 minutes to let me know when the visit would take place. There was no call the rest of that day, so after the weekend I called again. She let me know that the appointment was going to be Wednesday and had not remembered that I needed to know when it would take place. David arrived right on time. He was courteous and professional. He had brought an assortment of grab bars with him and went right to work helping me figure out where exactly they should go. He was patient and kind with my 88 year old father-in-law who although unable to talk and very slow, was involved in helping us figure out what he needed. He went right to work getting the bars installed - they are done very nicely. He paused only long enough to get down on the floor to introduce himself to my dogs, who calmed right down and accepted him - I was impressed! Then he went to work on the cabinet. When he saw what the problem was, he offered to look at the other cabinets as well to assure the kitchen would be safe. He showed me the poor cabinet construction and asked if he could take it with him in order to facilitate proper repairs. While David was working, I asked him if there were people in his company who did leaky pipe repairs, and he said he would take a look. He did, and fixed it promptly, saying that they do all kinds of handyman jobs as well as remodeling. He then made an appointment to come back next week to deliver the finished cabinet. His work was efficient and he left the area clean and tidy. He was most courteous and professional. I would certainly hire him again or recommend him to a friend.
Description of Work: A broken upper kitchen cabinet was removed from the wall and taken away for repair, five grab bars wereprovided and installed in the bathroom and front entry, and the leaky water supply pipe in the greenhouse was fixed. One of the maple cabinets in our 7 year old home was found to be disconnected from the wall at the top. The repairman showed me that although the cabinets are lovely to look at and expensive, they were poorly made. Although the backing was still attached to the wall, the cabinet itself was just stapled to the backing and the heavy dishes had taken a toll. After removing the cabinet from the wall and inspecting it thoroughly, he took it away to be properly glued and screwed together. We care for an elderly parent who has experienced a stroke and is in need of more accessibility equipment than we currently have. He installed a nice 18 inch stainless steel bar next to his chair in the walk-in closet, one on the outside of the house next to the front step, One next to the toilet, one outside the shower, one inside the front of the shower, and a 24 inch bar in the side of the shower next to his shower chair. The outdoor faucet in our greenhouse has been leaking and he tightened all the connections and stopped the leak completely.

Brian's workers were careful, clean, came on time, and did an outstanding job! I would gladly use them again for any project.
Description of Work: Our upstairs bathroom was 21 years old and was leaking. We decided to do a complete remodel with new sinks, a silestone counter-top, new raised toilet, new tub, large tile on the surround and floor, and re-texture the walls which had been wall papered.
The stellar service started with an outstanding receptionist/dispatcher, continued with great follow up communication, and wrapped up with shockingly helpful and efficient repairs to several items in our house. A handyman from a different company flaked on us less than a week before we had sleepover guests to our new house. One bedroom door and the bathroom door needed to be repaired, because they wouldn't close and no one wants to see their friends on the toilet... I found In Your Home on Angie's list and called. Rosanna took my call and I explained that I was hoping to have handyman services within the next two days, but I needed it to be in the evening... Was there any chance this was possible? She got to work trying to figure out a solution for me. She contacted a handyman, Brian Hicks, that lived in the same outlying area as me, and he worked out his kids' schedule so that he could come out to our house the following evening at 5:30... Exactly as I had requested. He even started work at noon the day of our appointment so that we wouldn't have overtime charges! (I just about fell out of my chair when I heard that.) We had a laundry list of small items, intending to take advantage of the 3 hour first time deal. Ultimately, he worked so fast that he was only here for 2.25 hours, which is what we were charged for. We were happy - and we got our evening back early! Brian quickly tackled every problem we sent his way. Some were due to issues we hadn't thought of (mostly our 50 year old house settling), and his solutions were more insightful than what we would have thought to try. We would have worked these things to death and never understood the root causes. I'm so glad we skipped that step and went straight to In Your Home. Nothing was much of a surprise to him until he got to the side door with the 50-year old lock. We wanted a diagnosis because we had been unable to operate the lock reliably and had stopped using that door. We figured we had to replace the lock but wanted his professional opinion. He quickly figured out that the internal workings were loose, and wanted to open up the lock to tighten it. This is a really weird old-school lock, and he couldn't figure out how to get into it. Finally he drew upon that great resource, Google, and figured it out. (When I say "finally," the whole thing took him about 15 minutes.) How he even knew what to type into Google is beyond me. Then he called us over and gave us an education about how to operate the lock, and even what trick you need to know to remove the top of it in case we ever wanted someone else to service it. He explained it all clearly and efficiently. Another note about Rosanna and scheduling: She took our number home so she could follow up with us after hours, since I had requested a call back that day but Brian's schedule wasn't confirmed until after the office closed. I work in a job where we send techs out and I honestly say I was floored by the level of customer service we received. I'm even inspired to do better in my own job. Brian, Rosanna, and In Your Home may be the best service provider we've used in years... Maybe ever.
Description of Work: -fixed 50-year old lock on exterior door-corrected doorjambs that had settled, making it impossible to close two doors-moved lock plate on one doorjamb-installed spacers for 2 sliding door closets-lowered sliding doors to eliminate gap between their base and the floor-where nails were needed, covered them with wood putty or something so they wouldn't be visible-worked his butt off, professional, friendly, efficient, and with care to keep cats from getting out when he needed to go outside to his van.

What a great day! Brian (Hicks) was our handyman for the day and made the whole experience a pleasure. He's courteous, punctual, very patient but most important - a very competent person. Nothing we asked was too much - he carefully analyzed the problem and presented the solution. Then, went ahead and and did the job. No drama, no problems. I will absolutely use this company again and I will certainly request Brian for the day.
Description of Work: After relocating cross country, we had a lot of small details to be taken care of. Moving a swag on a light fixture, creating an extra tall baseboard to camouflage a rug that's a bit too long, installing new runners on a computer pull out drawer, etc. The list goes on and on and we spent most of a day together. Everything that was requested was handled in a very professional manner.

I had them come out to install a water line for a new refrigerator which had to be plumbed under the floor in the kitchen. There was an issue with the way the under-sink area was constructed and the handyman they sent out was very inventive in coming up with a workable solution that still gave us a way to turn off the water flow if needed without crawling underneath the floor. In addition, he replaced about 15 outlets in the house. He was quick and efficient. I'd most definitely have him back to do more work.
