This provider has glowing reviews on Angie's List, which is why I called them to get a quote for tearing out our fiberglass shower, to have it replaced with tile, and a new shower door. They advertise they do this. I called them on 9-25-2013, talked to some lady. Was told the owner was out until the week of 9-30-2013, and that he would call me then to discuss the project. On 10-16-2013, since I hadn't heard a word, (and we have an answering machine and caller ID, so we know they never even tried to call), I called again. This time I got their answering machine, and left a message. It is now 10-23-2013, I still haven't heard a word. I'm sure they'll say this is all somehow my fault, but I don't know how it could be. If they don't want the business, they shouldn't advertise. Brad Update on 1-7-2014. I'm impressed the company actually responded to my above review. But isn't it all window-dressing, patting themselves on the back? The reality is, they still never contacted me, choosing to only respond on Angie's List. I guess they simply don't want the business. Brad

We regret the member’s recent poor experience when requesting service. We have been dealing with exceptionally high demand coupled with insufficient administrative and sales support resulting in poor response times to potential customers. We are taking corrective action and working through these issues. Our standard is to be responsive to both the request for bids and estimates as well as deploying our talented team to quickly meet our client’s remodeling and handyman needs. Thank you for the feedback and sorry for the less than acceptable experience.

The hardest part of this job was scheduling it. I thought I had a couple of dates but they fell through. Finally, though, a young man came out, looked the situation over and gave me a couple of options - replace the siding or fill it and paint over. He actually suggested the less expensive option, which I appreciated. When he was finished it was hard to tell where the work had been done. He was helpful and courteous throughout.

This was an urgent job (only toilet in the house occupied by elderly person; nearly all of the people at the top of Angie's List were booked solid for at least a month. In Your Home was also booked solid, but found members of the crew who were willing to do this after already putting in a full day elsewhere. The plumber came in the afternoon and did that portion of the job; the plumber also took photos and made measurements for the carpenter. The carpenter came in the evening. The whole job, including new vinyl flooring and complete cleanup, was done in about four hours. Overall, it took one day to get it set up, and by the following night we had a complete repair. My hat is off to all involved for recognizing the urgency of the situation and fitting it into an already full schedule. This is a very high level of commitment to the needs of the customer.

David from In Your Home was asked to fix two issues for a home getting ready to be sold. Replacing bi-fold doors for a pantry and a leaking toilet. In Your Home did a great job finding options for better door hardware so the darn bi-folds don't break immediately (a problem with those doors in a heavy-use location) and the right price point for the doors themselves. Also while he was there, David heard another toilet running and fixed a part. And then, while he was actually in the home, ha, the realtor heard of one more issue that needed to be fixed - a couple of sticks of hard-to-find siding on the exterior. Amazingly, she called David, and he was able to make some calls and add that task to the day's work, and went out to get the siding too. Everything was done beautifully at the end of the day and David sent pictures to show the nice work. In Your Home did great work fast right on the scheduled day. We did have some communication issues and delays in scheduling a work day after the initial walkthrough to get measurements, but it all worked out okay and In Your Home really did due diligence to look for the right doors in a custom measurement.

The owner Brian B. came out to assess the project within a week of our calling the IYH office. He was very professional and knowledgeable about accessibility features, and provided some good suggestions on design and products that were implemented in the finalized plan. He provided us with a quote by the following week. After three previous attempts with other contractors on this project, it was a relief to see a nice detailed proposal with a reasonable breakdown of the budget (Thanks, Brian!). Cost-wise, we were able to stay pretty close to the original budget, even with a few upgrades in fixtures. With this project, we weren?t really expecting any big cost savings. Still, IYH had the better edge among all the bids we had received. Our project manager was Jason, who was very organized and did a great job making sure all the materials were ordered and brought out to the house before they were needed. We had to place a custom order for the wood drawers in the vanity and for the cabinets, so actual work on the bathroom didn?t start for several weeks. Jason was very responsive whenever we had questions and easy to get a hold of. Brian H. and Ryan did most of the work on the bathroom and they stayed on the project from beginning to end, with help for plumbing and electrical when needed. It was really nice to have this consistency for an extended project in our home. The job was scheduled to take 2 and a half weeks and ended up taking 3 weeks and a day, which was pretty much what we expected given the scope of the project. Both Ryan and Brian H. were good-natured and very pleasant to work with. They were professional and very considerate of our home as they did their best to keep the dust and debris contained to the work area. Together with Jason, they made sure the counter height and placement for all the grab bars and shower seat were appropriate. All together, the job was well done and the tile work turned out beautifully. There were a couple of details at the end that needed attention and they kept working until everything was done to our satisfaction. There was also a problem with the fold-up shower seat that came loose on one side, possibly due to a split in the wood behind the wall support. Brian H. came back the following day after working another job and stayed late to put in some extra long screws and heavy-duty anchors, and the problem seems to be fixed. We are pretty happy with everything. Hopefully IYH will be able to bid on our next accessibility project.
Description of Work: We needed to do a major remodel of our master bathroom to make it accessible for my husband, who now requires the use of a wheelchair. We replaced a seldom used, oversized soaking tub with a barrier-free tile shower and replaced the sinks and counter with a roll-under vanity. The existing toilet and shower were in a separate enclosed space so we had the old shower removed to provide maneuvering room and had an ADA toilet and some storage space installed. The floor had heat and ceramic tile installed throughout. Also, we had four doorways widened, together with the installation of two doors and a pocket door. All new light fixtures, fans and paint.

I originally spoke with the receptionist on 5/31/13, and described the work I needed done. She asked many detailed questions, then promised me an emailed estimate by 6/5 or 6/6/13. Nothing. On 6/11/13 I called again and left another phone message. Still nothing. Not even the decency of a return call. I have the record of my two calls on my cell phone. Contacted contractor to get an estimate to replace two cedar exterior decks ( approximately 8' x 10' and 12' x 18' ) . My original email listed deck dimensions, etc. and offered to supply pictures if that would save them a trip to view the project scope in person. . Contractor asked for pictures, which I then sent. I received no response from contractor for several days, so i again contacted them via email. I received the response that the owner was still looking at it and hoped to get back to me in a day. Never heard from them again, nor did I contact them again. I used another contractor for the work.

After explaining on the phone to the comical and light hearted office support that my smoke detectors were going off for some unknown reason, they said they would have someone call me back with what was the problem and the possible solutions. We set the appointment and as it was suggested that either the smoke detectors were old and needed replacing or the batteries were dead. We set the appointment for the following Monday, my day off. The service manager came prepared with new smoke detectors and a carbon monoxide detector as well. As I have Cathedral ceilings he had to climb a ladder to the 12 foot height that the smoke detector as installed at the peak of the ceiling, only to find a nest of ants. He stated that ants are drawn to dying electronics as they send out a "signal" to the insects. After removing the smoke detector and ant nest he swiftly and safely replaced and tested all the smoke detectors in my home along with answer my questions and properly installing the carbon monoxide alarm. I plan on using their services again as soon as I get a quote for another improvement needed for safety in my home. They were professional, happy and all around good energy in my home.

I arranged an appointment for 5/2/13 some 10 days ago to repair a slow leak in a pot filler over my range. I fully described the problem since the filler protrudes through a marble slab and would require cutting a hole in the sheet rock from the other side of the wall. This looked like a job designed for this company since they reportedly do a little of everything. Their earliest appointment was for 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. I accepted their appointment even though it presented an extensive rescheduling issue for me due to a planned overseas trip. I immediately set about rearranging the appointments I had scheduled for tomorrow - 7 t0 8 days before the appointments so as not to inconvenience my vendors. Today at approaching 4:00 p.m. the 'In Your Home' people called to say they wouldn't make the appointment at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning due to an existing job that had presented some unexpected problems and would reschedule some time the following week. I'm aware that things happen. However what IYH didn't realize was I couldn't reschedule any of my appointments next week - there was simply no time left. So they've left me with a dripping faucet that is NOT over a sink for almost five weeks even though I waited for them for a week and half. Fortunately my nephew will be staying at the house, and even though he works he can empty a large pot when he gets home at night and before he goes to work in the morning. Then when my wife and I get home, five weeks from now, I can start all over again looking for a reliable vendor who wants the work. The situation presented by IYH is simply not acceptable behavior in my opinion and I cannot imagine a situation in which I would select IYH for any kind of work in the future.

Response from IN YOUR HOME
We responded to the member the same day he inquired. His plumbing is PEX, which requires special skills and unfortunately we did not have a qualified person available for 2 weeks. So that caused the initial delay. Then, unfortunately, a job that was supposed to last a day or less turned into a full week project because of problems beyond our control (massive rot that would not support the weight of fixtures and represented a dangerous situation.) So, we called to reschedule the member. The member became angry. Said he fired his last contractor for this very same thing and he was going to fire us too. Our office manager immediately apologized and offered to go back to the team and see if there was anything we could do. The member said there was nothing for her to check because we were fired. We are saddened the member is so upset, but we did what we could given the situation.

Two issues are at play here. First, the member requested two bids, one for just replacing fence posts and one for replacing an entire length of fence. Our office manager worked up a budget since our estimators were out of the office. The problem was that the budgets just did not seem to make sense to her (replacing the posts was almost as much as replacing the fence) so she had to wait until the owner could look at it. This took a several days to resolve—certainly longer than we would have liked but it required input and it is the busy season so unfortunately things like this slow down, as hard as we try. The second is communication. We did communicate by email several times during this period but it appears we could have done a better job since, by the time we sent the member their quote, they had already written their review. We apologize if the member felt that we did not keep him informed, we do feel we were responsive and doing our best to ensure the job costs we provided were accurate.

The very nice fellow Ryan arrived on time and removed 2 older security windows and a door. They had been installed by the former owner over 20 years ago and just not removed until now. The window bars needed to be removed for fire safety reasons. It was a tough project due to the type of bolts used. They were designed not to be removed easily. It did take him longer than anticipated, he had to go get some special blades so that the bolts could be cut, then removed the pieces left and repaired some dings in the wall that couldn't be avoided in taking the 6 inch heavy due screw out of the door frame. He did putty the holes made by the screw bolts as well. After he finished, he swept up as well. I highly recommend both the company and their employee Ryan. The price was reasonable for the amount of work that went into the project. They were friendly and considerate of my time, my house and my budget.

This is the second time I have used In Your Home. It started badly because the sink I ordered arrived damaged and had to be reordered. Can't speak highly enough of the positive attitude from John who very patiently finished the rest of the chores and then reset a date to come back and finish the sink installation. What a nice and really competent person! He returned after two weeks (when the sink finally arrived), stayed cheerful and helpful through an episode of trying to please the condo because of a necessary water shut down, and then very efficiently finished the installation. Everyone was happy. No fuss, no attitude, just great service. I would use this company again in a heartbeat.
