Rufus the owner and Mike, our 'bidder' were exceptionally responsive and quite helpful in discussing the options for re-roofing our existing 3-story 1919 Dutch Colonial, with a steep gambriel roof. The were also very helpful in scheduling the project to fit in a tight schedule for larger house restoration project, that involved multiple stages. This helped keep the overall project close to schedule. I was actually surprised that the 'crew' was only 2 people but they were very skilled and efficient and did a craftsman like job on all aspects of the job. Because of the steep gambriel roof, it is more visible than most roofs and thus we were very pleased with final appearance.

We had five different companies come out to bid on our roofing project. Their estimator was late to our appointment, but was friendly and helpful in his explanation of their bid. The pricing was very competitive, and they were able to fit us into their schedule pretty quickly. We had a bit of a panic attack when we were told the day before our scheduled roofing day that Aylwin did not currently accept credit cards. We pointed out that their Angies List page said they did, and that it was one of the reasons we chose to go with them over other roofing companies. After a bit of frantic back and forth, Rufus, the owner, helped us sort out a somewhat odd workaround that involved us paying their supplier who then credited Aylwin, but it allowed us to pay by card and have our project move forward as scheduled. The team arrived and got to work quickly. It ended up being a two day job. We wish that the crew had been a bit better with cleaning up after themselves, as they left a lot of tools and supplies on our roof and in our yard overnight, and we found food scraps and a bit of garbage left behind afterward. They did however, let us put some of our extra trash into their dumpster before it was picked up which we appreciated. Once the team was finished, we expected to have a walk around with someone to go over the work, but unfortunately the team packed up and left without saying anything. We noticed after they left that quite a few nails had slipped between the gutters and the fascia and were visibly sticking out. We called a couple times to Aylwin's office before they sent someone out to take care of it. When we received our invoice and warranty information, we noticed that the labor warranty was different than what had been quoted to us prior to starting the project, so again we called and emailed Alywin's office a handful of times before they sent over a revised warranty. Honestly, It would have been nice if there had been more pro-active communication on their end throughout the project. We ended up having to call and email Aylwin's office many times throughout the project to get our questions answered and make sure that we were all on the same page in regards to scheduling, the bill, and the warranty. Overall, we're happy with the quality of the roof, their warranty, and the overall price, but we feel it took quite a bit of effort on our part to make it get to that point.

Apart from the Superman skills displayed on our roof: Very professional, quick response and good communications with the project manager/person answering the phone provided here at Angie's list. I have no previous roof repairs to compare with but as far as i could tell, it was very reasonably priced. I'm so impressed with this company.

The roof install happened in June 2014 and all went well although it did take a long time for them to come back and fix something that one of their workers did not complete correctly. One of the assignments was to repair some rotting boards on the deck covering and raise the boards so they were not resting on the roof. When the roofers were done one corner of the deck covering was plainly laying on the roof and it took a long time for someone to come back and fix that. We had to make several phone calls and withhold final payment. Then everything went well until the rain came. The roof over the deck was leaking at almost every nail spot. Obviously they had loosened the nails when they were doing the repair. We contacted them and they promised they would come out and fix it. That was in October. We have contacted several times since and each time they have promised us they are coming out that week. It has been almost 2 months now and we haven't seen anyone come by. Christian is very pleasant and easy with his promises but does not follow through with seeing that the work is done. If we could get some resolution to our problem i would consider giving a higher Angie's List rating. At this point, i would not recommend this company. UPDATE: After leaving this review on Angie's List i was immediately contacted by Aylwin Roofing and they dispatched a repair crew the next day. I received a follow up phone call from the owner letting me know that if there were anymore concerns they would follow them up without delay. I have given Aylwin Roofing an improved rating due to their desire to have a satisfied customer. I feel bad that I had to take this route to get results but appreciate their concern to get things right.

When our roof sprang a leak during the huge rain of last week, Aylwin Construction/Roofing came to the rescue! The leaking started at about 2 in the afternoon and they were amazingly responsive, sending a crew out within about an hour of my call!!! They tarped the leaking area and got a repair quote to me the next day. We got lucky with the weather and they sent a crew out within a couple of days and they just finished the job. Everyone I dealt with was very polite, professional, responsive and pleasant. While they were up on the roof, they took photos so I could see what needed to be done and then look at the finished result. While they had the crew up there, they checked all the other vent pipe flashings, removed tree debris from a recent wind storm and caulked all the exposed nails. I would definitely call Aylwin again if we needed roof work and would recommend them to others, too.

Aylwin fixed the roofing over the newly installed solar light, then fixed two areas of roof line the contractor made changes to, All at no charge to me. His work has been exceptional, the people friendly, easy to communicate with, and they stand behind every word and promise they make. I have been extremely pleased with their professionalism and workmanship, and would strongly recommend them to anyone needing roofing.

Overall, Aylwin did a fantastic job on the roof. I was a little disappointed with the communication from the company -- they contacted me on short notice requesting a postponement of the job, which would have been fine except for some weather that was expected to move in. They said they'd try to stay on schedule and would give me a call back to confirm. Never received a call back or an apology, and they started the job a day late. The crew showed up and went straight to work and very efficiently completed the job within three days, and luckily the weather cooperated enough to not cause any problems. They finished the job and left without saying anything -- I'd been hoping for a walkthrough and an explanation of the work that had been completed, asking if I had any questions, etc, but that did not happen. With the lack of communication, I was concerned about the quality of the job, but I had a former roofer come check it out for me and he said they did a "superb" job on it. He even asked who it was so he could recommend them to others. They did a great job of cleaning up every day and left the area spotless at the end of the job. My neighbor was impressed with how quickly and efficiently they got things done, and overall I feel like it was money well spent. The price was reasonable, they did quality work, and I'd definitely do business with them again.

Called early in the morning and they had someone out in a few hours!

After my initial roofer backed out at the last minute I needed to find a replacement company before the rains started and to make an insurance deadline. I called to leave a message on a Saturday and Mr. Aylwin himself answered the phone and said someone would be out Monday morning. Ricardo arrived early Monday morning to give me a quote, talk about what he felt was needed on the roof and answered my myriad of questions. I told him I needed the roof done by Oct. 9th and he said it would be done by the 3rd. It actually got scheduled for the 1st and was done by the 2nd. Rodrigo, the foreman and his team did a wonderful job and allowed me to come up to inspect the roof during their construction and when they were done to see if I approved. When I noticed one item, they took care of it right away. They cleaned up around our house after they were finished and replaced our patio furniture to it's original position. A couple days later I received not just the invoice, but all of the warranty information as well. Thank you Aylwin Construction for doing such a wonderful job!

From the start when I requested someone contact me, Christian responded within a day. He provided the best information of the four bids I entertained. His products were exceptional, well explained, and reasonably priced. A number of things helped make the decision, first their extended warrantee, the best of any of those I interviewed. Secondly, because this was a remodel that included new construction with no roofing cover, and rains were coming, they went above and beyond to arranged their schedule to get to my home as soon as the roof was ready for roofing. They were the most responsive company from start to finish! As I watched the process, from the choosing of the shingles to the final review, their employees were hard working (and it was in the 90's!), conscientious and courteous, working long hours (7am to 6pm). They also brought the ventilation up to present day code (at their additional cost) and added more ventilation ports. Their finished work was a work of art. Lines were perfect! I would very highly recommend them, and would be happy to be a reference. They did an absolutely amazing job!! Very impressed with their professional workmanship from the sales person to those that took time to carefully clean up the surrounding area before leaving!

I called to make an appointment for someone to remove the moss off my roof. A very nice man, Christian came out, went up on the roof and e-mailed me as bid. I called about 2 weeks after getting the e-mail to set a time for them to do the work, and the girl who answered the phone told me that she couldn't find my paper work and she would call me back. She never did. I called 2 weeks later asking for her to set a time and she asked me if I printed off the bid, signed it and sent it back in. I told her no one told me to do that. Then she informed me that the bid was more than 30 days old and she would have to send me a new one. I said great. She never did. About 2 weeks later my husband called asking for them to send us a new bid, leaving a message, and you guessed it no one called us back. Then on September 12th, imagine our surprise when a crew from Aylwin Construction pulled up in front of the house, and was ready to clean the moss off our roof! No signed contract, no phone calls back, nothing I guess our number came up on the big wheel that day and they were going to help us out. My husband sent them away. I would never do business with them, can't call you back, after repeated attempts and then they show up to work. Probably should have let them clean the roof, and then thanked them and sent them away. After all no signed contract. UPDATE: They did apologize, so thanks for that. I raised the summary evaluation one notch to reflect.

Christian came and gave me an estimate and took the time to explain all the options and went over the various materials with me and answered all my questions. It was easy to talk to Christian on e-mail and he always took the time to answer me.They had an opening and came to install the roof ahead of time. In 2 days I had a brand new roof complete with new skylight. They picked up all the debris when they were finished. I was very pleased with the cost and the manner the work was done. I would recommend them to anyone who needs a new roof.

They were prompt, efficient, polite, and knew what they were doing. The clean up was great, and my roof looks terrific.

Aylwin came out to inspect our roof and look at the work that needed to be done to clean the moss off the roof and replace all the gutters. They noticed an area of our roof that was wavy with debris trapped in a gully and explained that this needed repair to prevent a leak and water damage. We were on a tight timeline and needed the repair within the next few days and they said they could make our tight timeline. True to their word within a few days we had an entire crew working on our roof so all the repairs were done in one day including all the clean up. They did a great job and that area of the roof looks much better now.

From start to finish they did a great job. The roof and gutter work had to be carefully sequenced with painting the exterior of the home. Because we wanted factory painted gutters they also had to come out twice to do the work and this was no problem for them. Ron was especially helpful with helping us choose what type and style of gutters to install. Aylwin also arranged for us to go and get sample of the actual painted gutter material so we could get the best color match. Ron also pointed out several places where our current gutter down spouts had not been properly installed and explained how he planned to fix the problems. They timely, efficient, and did excellent work. Our new gutters look great and our moss free roof looks great too. The entire process went smoothly. We found them on Angie's list and will definitely use them in the future. They deserve the Angie's List Super Service Award.

Mr. Smalling was scheduled at 9:30 AM. I received a phone call from him at 10:50 AM indicating he was sorry for missing the appointment and thought it was Tuesday, not Wednesday today. I indicated I had to take time off work and that we would not be interested in obtaining a bid or doing business with his company. Interesting that so many other customers highly rate this company. I would not suggest them to other Portland area homeowners.

We have used Aylwin several times in the past: new roof and a skylight replaced. This is the BEST company to work with. For the roof, we found Aylwin during a home improvement show. We were impressed with the straight forward answers, timely response, and good quote. The roof job was quick, efficient, and well done. The yard was left spotless!!! (not usually the case when you have to have a roof removed and replaced!). Two years after the roof was installed, we had a leak over the master bath. Aylwin responded to the call for help in a matter of hours. They found the issue was an old skylight. Skylight and leak was fixed the next day. When we needed the roof cleaned, I went out to Angie's to find providers of the service. When Alywin showed as providing the service, there was no question as to who we would call. Within three days, the work was complete. Again, this is the BEST company to work with.

Aylwin Construction did a fantastic job re-roofing our home; they were polite, professional and the final product looks fantastic. Christian, the estimator, was prompt in his communications with us and was always available if we had any questions or concerns. When he gave us the initial bid, there were no high-pressure sales tactics, in-fact he encouraged us to get a few other estimates for comparison. During the re-roofing, he stopped-by to check-in and when the work was finished, Christian returned for a final inspection and to ensure we were happy with their work. Aylwin's price was the best of the three bids (the highest being $21,000); we had no problems scheduling them; and they wouldn't accept any sort of payment until the work was completely finished and we were satisfied. I feel we received exceptional value, along with quality workmanship and materials for the price we paid. We're so enthusiastic about them, we're currently looking at having them re-do our gutters as well.

I could not be happier. Everyone at Aylwin (Marie, Melissa, Greg, Dante, and Ron) were the best. Everyone was where they were supposed to be on time, worked SAFE and Hard, took good care of the landscape, answered all my questions, and left my place "good to go," for what I hope is about 25 trouble free years.

I think the price was a good value for the service provided. I think they did a pretty good job.

They provided one of three estimates. They were in the middle but were the most responsive and the views on Angie's list showed them as the highest satisfaction rate. The job took 2 days. They cleaned up everyday and the job was fantastic. They also put a nice trim on the roof peaks and they painted the chimney to match the roof. Very satisfied and would definitely hire them again.

The roof looks great and it is leak free which is quite a relief after our last roof. The roof was completed in less than a week and when an error was made in the ridge line ventilation it was immediately, the next day, corrected. Rick came out during the process to make sure that we were pleased with the progress and to discuss any concerns we had. We had several bids and Aylwin was the most reasonable. They showed up when they said they would, worked very hard and left us with a very clean yard and a great looking roof. I would definitely hire this company again. We have a very strange valley coming down from the ridgecap to the front door and they roofed it so that it is not is not quite so visible which made us quite happy.

They were really good. They were fantastic. They were very quick. They have good prices and they gave us options. We're very impressed with them. They cleaned up everything. They're professional and punctual. I would recommend them.

Overall it went well and the work was well done. A patch on the roof did not lay flat, but when I pointed it out they redid it without argument. They left off a downspout, but again when I pointed it out they replaced it without any problems.

They came over within a few hours of calling to do an estimate, we scheduled a time for them to come over, and they came and did the job while I was at work. It looks great, I thought the price was totally reasonable and the guy who came over was super nice and professional. I also asked him to give me an estimate on a total roof, which was way less than other quotes I've received. We will have to to a 3-layer tear off and new plywood roof in the next few years, and we'll definitely go with Aylwin.
