Paul responded to our initial call right away. Came out and gave us a bid. He was very prepared with photos, license and bond information. He walked to the house with us to find out what work we wanted. We were called the night before his pressure washers were due. We expected that the house would be painted within a week. Paul did not communicate that he was running behind on other jobs and therefore our house would be further down the schedule. We had to communicate several times what the paint colors were to be. Once the crew arrived, we once again had to go over paint colors. The crew spoke very little English and it was not easy communicating with them. They did a good job on the house. The clean-up was exceptional also. We would recommend them again. Just be forewarned that there are communication issues with this company.
Description of Work: Painting the exterior of our home.

Paul came out and walked the house with me, taking in every detail. He noted his concerns and what his crew would do to resolve them. He was very thorough and professional. Received bid in the mail a few days later. His bid was comparable to other bids, but I got a good feeling about his professionalism and thoroughness. We set a date and the pressure-wash guy came out several days prior, removing storms and doing a first pass scraping. Scheduled slipped a week due to rain, but he contacted me so that was OK. Crew of two guys came out when he said and started the prep work. Both were polite and friendly, the lead painter Esteban spoke good English. They worked I think 8 solid days including a Saturday. Then came back the following Saturday to replace the storms (which I cleaned myself) and perform touch-ups in areas I'd noticed needing attention. All in all, I'm very pleased with the quality, professionalism and attention to detail I saw both from Paul and the crew.
Description of Work: House is a 1931 tudor. Exterior painting included stucco front and cedar shake body (some of which had seen much neglect and weather damage). Three colors (stucco front, body, trim). Sanding, scraping of old paint. Cleanup of old paint around windows which had been done sloppily some time in the past. Note: Bid did not include paint. I don't know if this is typical or because we went with a special more expensive paint (Pratt & Lambert Accolade which got good reviews in consumer reports ran about $45/gallon). Our house required about $1800 in paint.

I had been in contact with several contractors trying to get even an estimate and no one seemed to want my business. When I called Sunshine, Paul said he would be out to do an estimate. He called the night before to confirm and then showed up on time. He gave me a demonstration, then he said he would put the estimate in the mail the next day. I received the estimate the following day. I had a couple of questions about the estimate and Sunshine returned my call that evening. I told them then that they had the job because they did what they said they would do. No other contractor had done that. They planned to start on a Thursday, but Paul called to say they were running a day behind so they would start on Friday. When the crew came out, they put drop cloths around the whole house to catch the paint. They even came on Saturday to work. They finished on Tuesday and cleaned up all their stuff. I am very pleased with their work and that they did what they said they would.
Description of Work: Powerwashed the exterior of the home, removed paint on the window trim and doors using a heat gun, covered all windows and doors before spraying (even put plastic over my husbands '69 Cougar), painted 2 coats on the house & trim and at least 5 coats on the front door (went from one dark color to red).

Paul contacted us before his team arrived, kept us informed on their progress and ensured everything was cleaned up after they finished. They finished in less than a week and made sure they met their time frames. We were very pleased with the results and would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Paul and his crew pressure washed, caulked, and put two coats of exterior paint on our house. Our house is two-story with a daylight basement on a hillside, so it is at least three-stories tall on one side. We have over 2500 square feet, not counting the daylight basement, so it was a good sized project. They also refinished our deck and railing as part of the price.

Overall the work was well done. As I said the prep work was extensive and they spent the time necessary to do it right. It took longer than expected and I was pleased that for the most part they did not take short cuts to finish the job. There were three fairly minor issues: One of the men doing prep work was not careful with a sander and slightly damaged an original large window. Paul offered to replace it but you really can't replace an 80 year old window and get the same effect. The guy doing the pressure washing hit the outside hood for an exhaust fan and blew it off the side of the house. Not expensive to replace but he should have told me rather than just disposing of it. I ended up replacing screws and putting our storm windows back up because the pressure washer guy tossed the screws. The job looks great and the lead painter was terrific. I think Paul takes pride in the work his company does and I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Painted the exterior wood trim and a portion of the siding that covers an addition. The remainder of the siding is aluminum. There was considerable prep work to be done on our 80 year old house, I think much more than Paul expected. They also removed the storm windows and I had them pressure wash the entire house.

Overall, we're pretty satisfied with their work. First of all, we were impressed when Paul first came to give us an estimate. He provided a lot of information about his company, including references. His crew was diligent in covering/protecting our shrubs and rose bushes from paint, and responsive to any questions we had. It would've been better if they powerwashed closer to when they actually started painting. I noticed that there were some areas that some spiderwebs were infused into the paint. Another thing was that they didn't clean up as thoroughly as I thought they would. There was quite a bit of debris left on the roof when they left. My advice for future clients is to make sure you have color swatches ready of the colors you want so that it would be easier for them to get the paint required for the job.

We called Paul for an estimate to paint our house. We had primed the whole house, but asked him to finish. Every interaction I had with Paul and his wife, who answered immediately every time I called, was very positive. He came exactly when he said he would and gave us a bid. It ended up being out of our price range, so we chose to finish the painting ourselves. He offered us tips and advice for finishing. If I were to hire a painter, he would be at the top of my list!
Description of Work: Work was not performed, due to our budget constraints, not to any lack of professionalism on the part of Sunshine Painting.

I couldn't be happier with Paul and his crew. They were on time, worked through the day and thoroughly cleaned up afterwards. They gave great attention to detail and were completely open to any changes I made. They were courteous and helpful. I'd gladly hire them again for any other painting job, I'd have. A great contractor that does excellent work.
Description of Work: Painted house exterior, chimney, brickwork, roof overhangs, and window frames. Also caulked, primed and prepped surfaces. Used spray-gun and back-brush method. They used the three colors I chose for house, windows, trim and brickwork.

My 1922 bungalow had not been painted in at least 10 years. The paint was peeling very bad on three sides of the house. Paul's team washed, prepped, and caulked every single edge around the entire house. The house looks brand new! I had expected some pock marks from the peeling, but you can barely tell. The team was here every day working endlessly and always had a smile on their faces. They cleaned up every day and paid special care to surrounding trees and bushes. I would definitely use Sunshine Painting on my next job!
Description of Work: They pressure washed my 1922 bungalow. They scraped all peeled paint (that was in REALLY bad condition), caulked all seams and edges, slow dried the prime, and applied two coats of three colors.

We chose Sunshine Painting from among three contractors we contacted. Paul provided a very detailed estimate for the work. We would choose them again for future painting jobs.

This was an emergency job in some ways. My dad volunteered to paint the house in July, started scraping away, and abruptly realized this was way too big a task for him to handle. Paul scores high marks for being the ONLY contractor who responded to our request for a quote. It took a couple of months to complete the project, but Paul and his crew were courteous and responsive throughout. A small, last-minute impasse (over whether or not the contract price covered the application of a third color to my exposed foundation) was resolved to my satisfaction with the same level of courtesy. Clean-up was pleasingly thorough, and the end product looks great.
Description of Work: They painted the exterior of my bungalow home. Because of the age and previous condition of the home, extensive preparation was required. The amount paid for the work reflects an Angie's List coupon discount and a discount for providing our own paint.

I gave the painters an A, despite some issues. If there were any items I was dissatified with, they immediately fixed them. I am a perfectionist. Constructive criticism would be that the leader of the job always be there with the other worker who did not speak English very well. Also, there was some tentativeness on start date, no confirmation call and they showed up for work one day. They need to work on communication. I would say that was the only area of real improvement needed. There was a little confusion about paint color, taking down spouts down, etc. and again the trouble was rectified, but working on communication would have avoided the small unpleasant conversations with the painters altogether.
Description of Work: They did pressure washing, removal of downspouts and exterior painting.

Paul Eang responded immediately to my initial phone call and arrived to look over the job and prepare an estimate. He was very courteous and professional, calling to let me know he was stuck in traffic, etc. He said I should expect a proposal in about a week. It never arrived. I was quite disappointed after reading all the positive feedback about him and his work. (In fairness, I need to say I did not follow up to find out what happened to the bid as I had already made the decision to hire another firm).

First, Paul was the only painter I contacted from Angie's list who called back, was able to do the project, AND showed up for an estimate. He was extremely professional - showing copies of his business license and insurance. His estimate was very clear. His crew was great - hardworking, quiet, nice. And the finished product is wonderful. I couldn't be happier. One planning item - since I don't think Paul shows up with his crews, make sure any questions you have are already answered before the crew gets to your house - don't assume you'll be talking to Paul in person the morning of the 1st painting day.
Description of Work: The project included pressure washing, removing storm windows, scraping, prepping, and painting a 1 story 1940s house w/chimney plus a separate garage. It was a two color + foundation color scheme.

I was immediately pleased by the timeliness of the owner's responses to my phone calls & questions. I was also greatly impressed by Paul's professionalism - he presented a folder that contained his credentials & references when he personally did his inspection for the bid. I received the written bid a few days later and when I added a request for low VOC paint, there was no problem. Although he initially could not schedule us until the middle of September, he was able to get it done a month early. He and his team that included a pressure washer & 2 painters worked quickly and carefully. The painters appeared to work so well together - they completed the work in 2 days & were careful, competent, & friendly!
Description of Work: They pressure-washed the entire house with mildew killer, scraped & sanded where needed (layed plastic down to catch the scrapings), caulked, filled nail holes, masked & taped windows & doors, primed any bare surface, spray painted 2 coats, brush painted where needed, & protected the plants & bushes. This is on a 1-story 1954 white house with black shutters. They also sanded & painted the front door a 3rd color.

Paul came out and was very amiable and understood what I was looking for in a job like this. We both agreed a job properly done was worth the extra money in value. However, his bid came in at $15,750 for the prep work and $4,550 for exterior painting. My house is one story with a daylight basement (so it stands a little higher) and is 1100 square feet. The majority of the scraping needed to be done on two sides of the house and the back wouldn't be scraped at all. There is next to no trim and detail on the house and as for guarantees- a five year guarantee isn't that great on a $20,000+ job. As well as my guarantee would not be covering blisters. For that much money, shouldn'tit? I met with Paul and really liked him- I was very disappointed in the bid that he supplied. My feeling is he took a shot hoping I would be willing to pay an exorbitant fee or just go away. I hesitate to add this but I do wonder if being a widow had anything to do with a bid that no sane person would accept.

I was very impressed with the integrity of the workers they sent out. Although Spanish was the operative language, they knew enough English for getting the job done, and we were able to communicate very well. They were great guys to work with. They were always friendly and polite. I never had a concern. They cleaned everything up neatly upon completion of the job. They were outstanding!
Description of Work: First, a guy came out and pressure-washed the house and shed. He even did the back porch, although that wasn't going to be painted. About a week and a half later, the painters arrived and did some preparation work. They then carefully taped sheeting over all windows and covered all shrubs and trees in close proximity to the house and shed. They used a spray-type method of applying paint and normal paint brushes for the rims around doors, etc. There were also sections of fence that we had requested be primed and then painted as well. On the last day, they did the final detail work with brushes after removing all the taped-up areas.

Sunshine Painting more than met my expectations. Paul Eang was first class in handling the bid for the job and responding to any questions I had regarding the work. He returned all calls promptly and presented himself in a professional manner. The painting crew showed up on time, worked steadily until the job was completed. In one day after the prep work had been done they had the body of the house painted. When I returned home from my office and saw my house I was so pleased. It looked like a brand new home! Every detail was handled. The next day they completed the trim work and put the finishing touches on my house. It is really a nice job. I would highly recommend Paul Eang of Sunshine Painting Company. I thought his price was very fair for the quality and caliber of work they did on my home and I would hire him and his crew again.
