Sunshine Painting PDX is an extremely professional company that does great work. I received nine bids for our project and they came in at the best price for the scope of work. The sanding they did on our 1951 cedar siding makes it look like a new home. The paint work is near perfect and I am hard-pressed to find a flaw. Two gentlemen did all of the work and we really liked them both personally and professionally. I am very happy that we went with Sunshine and would recommend them to friends and family.

I hired Paul and Sunshine Painters to paint my home in May of 2010. The initial process went very smoothly, he was quick to respond, provided a fair quote and did an adequate job....or so it seemed. Less than two years later the paint was already bubbling, cracking, and peeling in multiple areas on the house. Luckily he has a two year warranty on his services, so he sent out his crew again to repaint the areas that were chipping and bubbling. It's now been three years since the "touch up" and the paint on the house looks worse than it did before I hired him to re-paint the entire home. I have repeatedly reached out to him via email and telephone to see if he was available to come back and re-paint the areas of the home that were cracking and peeling. I of course offered to pay for the services since it was no longer under his service warranty, however he has been completely unresponsive. Please keep this in mind if looking to hire him. It doesn't matter if the paint he uses on your house has a 15+year warranty. Once the painting service is no longer under warranty with him he becomes completely unresponsive....so you won't even be able to get the warranty on the cost of the paint. Such a disapointment from such a highly rated Angie's List provider.

They were great. Easy to use. Very clear in their communication.

Paul and Samantha are very professional, polite and punctual. When they say Paul will be out to your home to meet, that's when he will be there. They project went well and additional areas of dry rot and deck wear were discovered and agreed upon for repair during the job. Those additional repairs did not hold the project up. The project moved along at a good pace and the job was done efficiently. The painters cleaned up pretty well each day and after the job, they did a great job of cleaning up the site. There was a little mix up with regard to the base used on our gables. I called Sunshine and Samantha got right back to me to have Paul come out and take a look. This was likely not Sunshine's fault (the paint mix up), but potentially was a mix up by the paint supplier. At any rate, it is not whether a mistake of some sort is made, but rather what one does to correct the mistake, once discovered. I can attest that Paul and Samantha and Sunshine Painting did correct the problem. Paul came out personally and repainted our gables and they now look great! I would heartily recommend Sunshine Painting for your residential or commercial project. I will definitely use them again, when needed. Chuck Miller - Homeowner

Paul arrived precisely on time to provide an estimate. He had many questions about what I wanted and we walked around the detached garage and entire house, discussing issues as they became evident. He was very knowledgable and straightforward. He provided a bid in a timely manner, and it was very competitive. The bid was for painting only. I did not hire him for the job, however, because I had two other issues related to the painting that would have to be completed before he could do it. We had a second story deck at the back of the house in an undetermined state of rot that I wanted replaced. Sunshine Painting could not do that work, so it would require a separate contractor unless I found a painter that also did carpentry. We would also have to hire someone else to replace some of the siding where there was dry rot.

Estimate was reasonable. Work done promptly. Painter worked hard even on 100° days. Cleaned up beautifully when finished. Every time I look at the house with its new paint it makes me smile.

PAUL AND SAMANTHA WERE WONDERFUL TO WORK WITH. THEY WERE MOST INTERESTED IN OUR NEEDS AND SPENT A LOT OF TIME PREPARING THE HOUSE FOR PAINTING. IT WAS A LARGE PROJECT AND THEIR WORKERS WERE MOST DILIGENT. AND THAT INCLUDED A LOT OF STORM WINDOW REMOVAL AND REINSTALLING. WE ARE VERY HAPPY WITH THE JOB THAT THEY DID AND WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM.

THIS IS A REVISED REVIEW ORIGINALLY FROM 2015: I originally gave Sunshine Painting an "A" when they painted the exterior of our house in May 2015. When researching companies to use I obtained 6 estimates. Sunshine was not the cheapest nor was it the most expensive. I choose them because of their owner Paul who convinced me his company was best for the job. I obtained through them a 3 year warranty - and I'm glad I did. Make sure you do too with whomever you choose! It's my belief based on my own observations/research and conversations with industry painting professionals that Sunshine made an error in judgment and initially painted our house during a rainy cold day. I contacted them immediately after they painted (within hours actually) and expressed my concern but they assured me that there was nothing to worry about. It also could have improper prep work or not following the paint specs in terms of drying time between each coat. It's hard to say exactly except that most of our house has now been repainted. In any event - after only a few months in 2015 it was necessary to repaint the lower portion of the west side due to chipping and cracking. Paul the owner came out and did it himself. In 2016 it was necessary to have Sunshine repaint the upper portion of the west side and the entire south side due to fading, chipping and peeling. In June 2018 it was necessary to have Sunshine repaint the entire east side (front of house) due to extreme fading and overall looking like it was painted ten years ago. They texted me while I was out of town on business 52 minutes before they were going to show up and stated they had no idea what paint to purchase although we had been emailing about this repaint for at least 9 months plus they had previously repainted on two other occasions! This was not only frustrating and unprofessional - but it shows a clear lack of attention to detail. That means Sunshine repainted about 75% of our house during their warranty period. I therefore have revised my rating to a D - based on the fact that within three years almost all the house needed to be repainted. ORIGINAL REVIEW My wife and I began the process of finding a contractor to paint our house in the Summer of 2014. We met with about 7 different companies and received a wide array of quotes - we knew what our budget was - and were able to narrow it down to a few companies that we felt based on their reviews, their estimates/contracts and initial meetings could do the job. We decided to use Sunshine Painting because of their Angie's List Reviews, their estimated cost to complete the project and our interaction with the owner Paul. Due to weather issues last year - we asked for our project to be moved from October 2014 until May 2015. Our project was just finished and it looks fantastic. We had some very specific conditions that needed to be met to for their crew to work on our roof and they made every attempt to follow those. Due to my work hours I prefer to contact people by e-mail and they usually replied back within 24-48 hours regarding questions or changes needed in our contract.

I have vinyl siding. I feel they were sloppy on the trim since the paint was splatter on the back side of the trim and i look at that every day. and the front door I had them paint white they painted with a paint brush instead of taking the door off and spraying it I'm not happy with how the door looks I can't even wash off any marks that get on the door. they did a good job on the deck. if any thing I would like my door to be repainted.

Paul and Samantha were very helpful through the entire process from the estimate to the completion of the project. They had constantly kept us updated of the work schedule and progress of the work. Their worker Paulo was very friendly and kept everything very clean by the end of each day. The entire project from start to finish took one week. We are very happy we used Sunshine Painting for this project

our house hadn't been painted in 16 years or more and we get gusty east and south wind during winter on the Alameda Ridge. All the shingles on our south side had split, cracked, warped, pulled away from house etc. and somewhat on other sides as well. About half the cost was the shingle replacement. Paul was very friendly and easy to work with, very likeable! There was miscommunication about the 3rd color, his staff believed we wanted the third color on the window sill rather than on the window sashes (which is where a 3rd color was previously). We came home and they hda painted it that on the 2nd or 3rd day of work. However after I explained the miscommunication to Paul and his workers, they fixed it at no charge. if i recall correctly they cleaned up well and there were no other issues. There is a spot above a window that we think might be leaking. I don't understnad construction very well, but a neighbor explained to us it has something to do with the way the shingle was installed next to the window trim. so we may have to get that fixed.

This is a followup review. Sunshine painted our house 5 years ago. I specified a brand and color of paint. When Paul could not find a source for the paint I specified, he substituted the recycled paint from Metro without consulting me. The painters caulked the gaps between the clapboard siding. This is generally recognized as a bad idea because it keeps moisture from escaping from within the wall, and eventually causes deterioration of the paint, siding, and/or wall interior. Within five years their paint job had failed. I have had to have most of our house repainted, and the caulk removed from between the clapboards. I think the poor quality of the paint and the caulking both contributed to pre-mature failure of the paint. Even though Sunshine charged less than other companies I received quotes from, they have cost us a great deal more in the long run. Caveat emptor. I am grading Sunshine a "C" even though I think it was unethical to use such cheap paint, and the caulking is bad professional practice. I hope this grade shows fairness to the actual painters who were skilled at their profession.

Called them for painting quote on 9/22 and they said they are booked for the entire year. Not good for me but good for them. Did not use their service. Only gave them a C because there was no N/a so C is no opinion.

Paul, who owns Sunshine Painting and Contracting, provided a bid at no charge to paint all four of the townhomes in our complex. We do not have a HOA because each home and the land beneath it is owned individually. His price was fair and he agreed to bill each individual owner separately. Paul was here each day as the work was done. He worked along with his helpers. All of them were pleasant and patient as they worked on the job. Paul, especially, explained exactly what was to be done and answered any questions we had during the process. He was friendly and professional. After we were no longer under contract (which went into effect on 6/18/2007), I noticed paint chipping in a number of places. Thinking it had been about three years since the work was completed, when in reality it had been much longer, I called Paul and he said he would be glad to come out and look at the situation, even though the contract was no longer valid. It had expired in 2009 or 10. When he arrived, I explained that I had not experienced paint chipping on other homes I have owned until a longer period of time.. He offered to remedy the situation. As a result, he came out to my home, scraped, sanded, primed and painted areas that needed attention at no cost to me. He even went to more than one paint store to find a particular paint he thought would be the best for coverage on railings that had some rust, not an unusual situation in Oregon because of rainy weather west of the Cascades. While Paul was at my house, my neighbors wandered over to see what Paul was doing. They had some rust problems as well, and he agreed to touch up their railings, also at no cost. Altogether, Paul worked for more than a half a day and satisfied all four owners. He was phenomenal and provided outstanding service far beyond his guarantee and our expectation since we were no longer under contract. I recommend him completely and without reservation. I don't know how people are chosen for a Page of Happiness, but if I were to judge him as an owner, operator, and worker, I would certainly see that he received one. It was a pleasure doing business with him, during the original job and during the additional service he provided today.

They did an excellent job at a reasonable price. It has now been three years and the paint is lasting very well.

JUNE 2012: Paul Eang provided a reasonable estimate of all the work and was very clear on the extensive prep that would be required to produce good results. He promised that if his crew did the prep work, he would stand behind the project with a 5-year warranty. (As you'll see, two years later he proved to be a man of his word.) The two-man crew donned their hazmat gear and set to work with the grinders, removing all the old paint and exposing wood that hadn't seen the light of day for nearly 100 years. (It was almost a shame to repaint.) After all that hard work was done, painting progressed quickly and soon enough, the house was shiny, shiny. There was a bit of an issue as to color selection on the parts of the soffit that you can hardly see, but (despite the fact you hardly see it) they agreed to do it the way I wanted. (As it should be.) SEPT 2013: After a summer of intense sunshine on the S and W walls, I started to notice a few areas where paint was peeling. Just a bit here and there. But I decided to let it go for the winter to see what else develops. JUNE 2014: Paul quickly took care of the areas where the paint didn't adhere properly, passing the true test of professionalism and solidifying his 'A' rating. (And spurring me to finally write this review.)

Paul arrived as scheduled and provided a very professional bid package which we accepted. As soon as the weather cleared his crew arrived as scheduled and completed the painting. Did a great job covering areas not to be painted, applied a prime coat and the next day completed painting. As they were completing work we decided to make a change that they accomplished without hesitation. Overall did a great job and I would certainly recommend them and use them in the future.

It went very well. We provided the paint and they came out to paint it. They were flexible and willing to work with your schedule.

Sunshine Painting painted my house in 2009. In the next couple of years, extensive peeling occurred on the facades listed above. Illness in my family prevented me from dealing with the situation until last summer, 2013. Paul came and inspected the work and agreed to re-painted the affected areas at no charge but warned that the condition of the wood siding would probably affect the new paint. I had insulation and new siding installed on the south wall in the autumn, but the weather was already too cool and rainy to paint at that time. Paul called last week and said his crew would be out in a couple of days. They finished the job Sunday evening, and it looks beautiful. The crew, led by Esteban, was thoroughly professional, considerate and careful. I believe Sunshine Painting went above and beyond in resolving my problem, and I am deeply appreciative and impressed. I will recommend them to others.

Poor prep (mainly the washing) work and when the masking tape was removed from the windows it pulled off portions of the paint adjacent to the glass. Did not clean all of the masking tape adhesive off of the windows when the job was done.

Paul's workers were prompt. Price was very reasonable. I had and issue with primer and clean-up. But Paul took care of all problems. Great Job

They were prompt and did a good job. If I had a complaint, it was they didn't clean up the yard of debris for several days.
