The overall jobs went very well. Could have done a little better on cleanup on the second job as we found wrappers and old roofing in the bushes.
Description of Work: They were very competitive and did a good job on two roofs for us last year. We had one done on our old house before we sold and another by them on the house we bought. They could have done it a little quicker if they had worked while their truck was taking material to the dump but the workers waited until the truck returned. We felt the quality was very good and Robert was very helpful and attentive.

Roberts Roofing did absolutely nothing to fix the problems, so we hired another company who did a great job in repairing the shoddy work that was done by Roberts Roofing.
Description of Work: Original roof removed and replaced in Sept 2003 by Roberts Roofing. After nearly 3 years, we realized that the roof had been leaking into the attic and we hadn't noticed it untill much later. Robert, the owner came out in 2006 and said it was the fault of the home owner and the roofing company. (Why was it our fault ??) He also said it was no longer under warrenty. He sealed around the chimney since it was originally not sealed well at the time the roofing was replaced. Soon after we found out through another well known Portland area roofing company that the work was not done correctly and that we had lots of mold in the attic due to the shoddy workmanship of Roberts Roofing. We had to pay out approximately $3,600.00 to have the mold removed and another $800.00 plus to have the roofing replaced in a couple of areas. I contacted Roberts Roofing and was told "So Sue Me." Never again will I use a company that has such a bad rating through the BBB ~(which I found out after the fact) and in the mean time, if anyone asks for a recomendation, I make a point to tell them who NOT to use.

Worst customer service ever. After several delays, the workers showed up three business days late and began work unannounced. We were informed via voicemail that the price increased by over $600. When we questioned the price increase, the owner became aggressively hostile. We paid bill in full according to our contract yet owner has threatened to withhold warranty. Research through the Oregon Construction Contractors Board revealed many complaints filed against this company.

New roof installed on 7/06 for $6000 for my elderly dad. Poor job, conplained to BBB and CCB. Inspector found poor work and overcharging. Roberts claimed to have repaired the error. Unbeknown to us CCB had told him to repay the overcharge which he never did. Beware of a man who walks around with piles of disclaimers for customers to sign even before anything is done. We signed. Now 5 years later the roof started to leak, we called Roberts who refused to to anything because we had signed off in the past. We had to hire a reputable roofer to repair several areas for an extra cost of $2000. This second roofer showed photos of the shoddy work done by Roberts. He said Robert's work had started leaking immediately and finally over the years had worked its way into full blown leaks with sections of ceiling falling in. Taking advantage of an old man and a woman, neither of whom were knowledgeable about repairs is despicable. Again, beware of signing any disclaimers because those are the first words out of his mouth.

They didn't bring enough material to finish the job. Two of them didn't speak english. The head guy that did speak english didn't pay any attention when you did talk to him. Overall it was bad experience.
Description of Work: Replaced roof sheeting, tar paper, shingles and flashing. Also replaced 4 pipe flashings. One of them they put on upside down. One they pulled down the roof too far which caused it to leak around the pipe. That leak caused water stain on bedroom ceiling. They removed the flashings from the morter in chimney and replaced them. That caused a leak in the garage. They never should have taken those out. They did the job in the rain and didn't keep things covered up. These leaks happened after their wonderful ONE YEAR WARRANTY expired. About 5 months after it expired. My fault for not reading the contract. They damaged two gutters which they did replace. When they left I got up on the roof and vacuumed about 20 lbs. of debris out of the gutters that they left and picked nails from the ground all around the house. They refused to replace a long flashing over the patio cover that had been there for 20 years. I filed a complaint with the BBB.

They started the project in March and were not finished by August. There were still many loose ends that they never came back to fully complete, even though we had the owner out to the house rooftop to evaluate. They ruined one of my boards ($500 to replace by special order). We split that cost. They tried to hide the other flaws in their project, but we continued to find more. They left nails all over my property, one of which resulted in a flat tire for our car. They bent the gutters and were extremely unhappy when I asked for replacement, but they did replace. Both my dad and my boyfriend had to help them with some of the repairs. The roof started leaking again 1.5 years after the "completion" on a job that was only guaranteed for 1 year. I can go on, but it only brings back bad memories for me. I recommend hiring elsewhere for a new roof.

This is in response to the recent report made by Member. This job was contracted and completed in 2009. The $500.00 board she is referring to, was actually $420.00 and was dry rotted prior to our contract as evidenced by our photos. The home had several structural issues which caused many problems. She revealed that the previous homeowner had performed a lot of the work on the home himself. We expressed to her, as well as to her brother, that since we are not builders that we did not feel comfortable in handling the issue with this large and heavy board. We advised that a contractor should be hired to perform the work. Additionally, there were electrical wires hanging in the area which were a hazard to our crew. Refusal to hire a contractor, lead to her brother and father helping us with the work. We even paid for half of the replacement cost in good faith. We have not received any communication from her since 2009. Any defects in installation that could cause leaking would definitely develop in the first year given the amount of rain we receive in our region. I cannot speak to why it would leak now, three years later unless she has had other contractors performing work since our completion.

There were several causes that were due to the delay of your roofing project. • Weather – The weather during that time was not good for a roofing project so all jobs were delayed to that circumstance. We did not want to tear off your roof in the rain and cause more damage then what was originally discovered. • HOA Guidelines - In the beginning you chose t the Pabco Paramount product to have your roof project completed with. During the process of signing the contract you then learned that there was a certain type of roofing products that could be used in your neighborhood, so then the Certainteed Presidential Shake was the new product to be use. After talking with your HOA they issued you an Approved Roofing Information Sheet that listed all the products that the HOA allows their residents to use on their homes. The Certainteed Presidential Shake was not one of the products that was listed on the information sheet so once again the product had to be changed. The product that was recommended by the HOA had a more expensive price tag on it and you also received a lower bid amount from another roofing company. So to keep you as a customer, Robert’s Roofing gave you the upgrade for the Certainteed Presidential TL shingle for FREE! (that’s around a $2000 upgrade). Once the product line was picked out and the weather started to clear up, Robert’s Roofing fulfilled our commitment of the contracted work agreed upon . The work done was high quality and the roof looked beautiful! Robert’s Roofing did everything they could to work with you and your HOA demands. The grade that was given was unfair and definitely unattenuated.

Robert showed up on time for the estimate and also for the contract signing. The crew showed up on the designated start date. It rained during much of the project and it slowed the progress of the job. The crew did a good job of completing the work in spite of the weather. Both Robert and the job foreman were good at communicating with us about their progress. One section of gutter was damaged during the work. The office immediately arranged to have the section replaced by Great NW Gutters. The replacement was done on time with very good results. Overall, the job went very well. The installation quality was very good. The crew could have done a better job of cleaning up after the project was completed. We cleaned up beverage cans from our yard and the roof gutters, and also spent time picking up nails, rubber bands, and plastic strips from the roof, along with roofing debris from our yard and the neighbors yard. The office offered to send workers back out to clean up but we declined. Over all, we are happy with the installation quality and communication.
Description of Work: Removed (3) layers of roofing, Replaced (6) sheets of plywood. Removed old roof vents and power fan, Replaced most roof flashing. Installed 15 pound roof felt and 40-year architectural shingles with ridge vent system. Replaced six feet of 2x6 roof rafter (dry rot).

When we were given an estiment, the salesman could see that I was disabled. He said I see you probably have a lot of Dr. bills so I'm giving you a good deal and the estiment was $5000. Barring any extra plywood they need. Only after the roof was half stripted of shingles did they tell us we needed new plywood on the whole house. They charged $70. a sheet and said we needed 52 sheets total, we got 4 as a signing incentive to begin with, Do your home work.
Description of Work: 1200 sq.ft. house used 1/2" plywood, asphalt shingles with 1" long staples that rip at our backs any time we go into the attic. Didn't clean up their mess, old roofing scrap & nails in attic and flower beds. Never came back to clean up.

the roofing was okay, didn't start on time and didn't end on time, but these things happen. the biggest complaint I have is that they didn't clean up the roofing debris thoroughly. at the beginning of the project, told him that we have 2 small children and so having everything cleaned up when the job was finished was extremely important. he said that nothing would be in our yard and it would go straight into the dumpster. however, when the job was started, they didn't have a dumpster. apparently it was not available. they started throwing the wood shakes on my lawn. when i went to talk to the crew, then they laid down a tarp and put the debris on the tarp. the dumpster was finally available near the end of the job and they cleaned up, they never magnetized to remove nails from the yard. I looked around and found dozens. they had to come out 2 more times to magnetize and we're still finding nails a year later!

I provide F-550 dump trucks to each crew to haul away all debris from each job site. If the dump truck wasn't there we were not informed of it by the customer. At the end of the completed job the customer signed off on the contract to to verify that the job was completed and they were satisfied with the work done. The crew leader went back a few days later as a good gesture to make sure that all the materials were picked up from the customers property, and the customer also again signed off on this work done.

They didn't seal around my chimney like they were supposed to. I had a big leak and they would not respond to it, saying it was not their responsibility. The roofing job was lousy, as you could see nails. Several people have asked where I got my roof done and I have given them bad vibes.

The price and quality of the actual roof replacement was good. Service and responsiveness to warranty issues are very poor. Any response will require multiple phone calls and then only at their convenience. A few office staff members are brusque. The small crew took the entire week to replace the roof on a 3-bedroom home. My neighbor's much larger roof was replaced by another company in one day with a crew of about 12. The workers do not speak English which makes it difficult to relay issues or requests. They did a good roofing job but left pieces of roofing throughout the yard and deck. Subsequent gutter cleaning left a downspout entirely clogged and a mess on the deck. I won't ask them back again.

After the roof was completed, my crew cleaned up all left over materials, and made sure that the grounds were left as they were found before the roofing project started. After the customer's job was completed a satisfaction survey was filled out by the customer and stated "Robert's Roofing is the most responsive contractor I spoke with all summer." Out of the 8 questions asked on the survey 7 of 8 were marked 'Completely satisfied' and the other was marked 'Very Satisfied'. If this customer was so unsatisfied, why did they respond to the satisfaction survey as though they were satisfied? And also, why did it take 6 months for the posting on Angie's List to show up without a call or letter stating the fact of disapprovement.

I found Roberts Roofing from his TV advertisements. He's a bit of a high-pressure salesman. On the tear-off, they replaced some sheeting that is the lesser quality. Also, my neighbors never saw any felt rolls, so I'm not confident that they used new felt. Within two days of the roof being replaced, there was a huge downpour and there was water coming in from all around my skylights. It took them a week to come back to the house and whenever I called, they would blame my old skylights, not the roof. When my son came with me to the office and said exactly what I'd been saying, they acted quickly. Once they decided it really was the roof's fault, they replaced a piece of the roof and it was fixed for about a year. When I've called since then, I have not gotten a response.

After this job was completed the customer called us stating that the skylight was leaking. Sometimes this happens with older skylights, we do not warranty skylights, especially ones that we did not originally install. 6 days after the job was a completed, we went back out to re-seal of the glass on the skylight for the customer on 11/6/2006. After the re-sealing we didn’t hear back from the customer until 9-18-2009, the call back was written up and the we went out to re-seal the skylight for the customer again, 3 years later.

There were communication problems with the crew because the crew didn't speak English. The owner didn't follow through with some things he had promised. IT SPECIFIES IN OUR CONTRACTS: REMOVAL/INSTALLATION OF ATENNAS, AWNINGS, SATELITE, AND PATIO COVERS ARE THE RESPONSIBLITY OF THE HOMEOWER. AS A COURTESY TO THE HOMEOWNER WE REMOVED THE AWNING WHEN WE ARRIVED AT THE JOB SITE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE HOMEOWNER HAD NOT TAKEN CARE OF THAT. SO WE REMOVED IT AS A COURTESY TO THE HOMEOWNER, BUT WE ARE NOT EXPERTS IN THIS AREA AND THAT'S WHY WE NOTIFY THE HOMEOWNER IN THE CONTRACT AHEAD OF TIME. I AM VERY SORRY THAT THE HOMEOWNER IS UNHAPPY FOR THE AWNING ISSUE BUT WE DO OUR BEST TO INFORM THE HOMEOWNER PRIOR TO THEIR ROOFING PROJECT. AS A SIDE NOTE, ALL OF OUR CREW LEADERS SPEAK ENGLISH SO WE CAN CLEARLY UNDERSTAND THE NEEDS OF OUR HOMEOWNERS DURING THE COURSE OF THEIR PROJECT. WE WILL CONTINUE TO STRIVE TO ACHIEVE THE BEST POSSIBLE SERVICE FOR OUR CUSTOMERS ROOFING NEEDS.

Robert gave me a list of completed houses sorted by shingle color, so I could look at his work and choose the best color for my setting. Once running, his crew was incredibly efficient and well-done. Started tearing off at 7:30 in the morning, and completed most of the work and cleanup the same day. Kept things dry thru intermittent rain squalls, and worked especially fast to replace the 4 sheets of rotted plywood. Team leader Jose answered all my questions. They came back the next morning to finish the flashing on the chimney. Very little debris left around and good communication throughout. It looks good and is not leaking! Yay!
Description of Work: Tore off two layers of roof, replaced four sheets of plywood decking and re-roofed with 30 yr. shingles. Added new trim, cleaned the mess and the gutters, replaced a barge board and added vents to code requirements, added two new exhaust fan vents and re-flashed the chimney. They put tarps all around the house to catch the debris and cleaned up efficiently while they worked and at the end.

I was supposed to have an appt at 1 pm today. At 12.15 pm, my partner called and said that Robert had arrived and was on the roof. I listed as she told him that she was also a homeowner, and that he could give her the information. He said that he would put the bid together and leave it with her as he was double-booked (his reason for coming early); therefore I didn't hurry home. At $12.59 Robert called and said he was at my home, and where was I? I told him that I thought he was giving my partner the bid, but was on my way. I arrived at 1:17. Robert was nowhere to be seen; nor was there a bid. When I finally got in touch with him, he said he HAD called (my phone record will show no incoming call), and said that my partner had told him NOT to give her the bid. Then he hung up on me, and had his office manager call me to say that if I wanted the bid I could come to their office to get it. WHY would I come get the bid for a guy who doesn't want my business, or that of my clients?

They were very accommodating at the beginning. They roofed the main part of our house & they were done quickly. However, there was considerable "run around" when it came to roofing the addition. I was told that we needed to have a separate bid but that we needed to have it framed first. I was reassured that when it was framed, they would get out there quickly to do the bid. When the time came, the soonest the bid could be done was two weeks. After many phone calls and some pleading, I was told I didn't need it framed after all & I could just give them the dimensions of the space. Once that was cleared up, they were GREAT to fit us in to their busy summer schedule (i had baby on the way). BUT they did not attach the addition roof to the house roof. They REFUSED to come back & finish the job. The roofers left several shingles & a tool up on the roof. It was left looking unfinished & the owner defended this action without even looking at the house himself. Now we have a leak in the roof.

Robert himself came to my door and briefly explained to me what he would be doing for the estimate and then when he finished, instead of just leaving the bid at the door, he came into my home and explained to me just exactly what needed to be done to my 1985 cedar shake roof. After having already been given 4 bids via my doorway, it was quite refreshing to receive one in person. Due to the rain, my project was delayed 2 days. Rather than Monday the workers started on a Wednesday morning right at 8 am. There was lots of noise (which was to be expected) and plenty of mess. But rather than leave at the end of the day without cleaning up, each day they picked up after themselves so that you couldn't tell anyone was working on my house. Very impressed with all the hard work that went into my home.
Description of Work: My home was built in 1985 with cedar shake roofing. As you know, these roofs aren't meant to last more than 20 years. So when we bought our home last year, we knew that time was ticking. Roberts roofing tore off all the shake roof as well as replaced all the sub-roof due to water leak damage. Then replaced roof with composite roofing material which was much more suitable to our liking.

When Robert came out to give the bid, he was courteous and the bid sounded reasonable. Now I understand why they had mixed Angie's grades and CCB complaints. My issues with them: 1) The original bid was $6,000. They informed me the price increase after work was done because they had to trim 1'' off the existing plywood. And, they had to make some adjustments to fit the new skylights. I feel the trimming should be part of the deal, and I bought the skylights per Robert's measurements. If they didn't fit, I shouldn't have to pay for that mistake. 2) The new roof is black and they used white flashing. When I asked, they said black flashing had to be special ordered. The clerk said I could buy some black spray paint to paint over the white. 3) When they told me the added charges, the clerks at the front office weren't interested in questions or customer satisfaction. Robert was curiously out of the scene.
Description of Work: I had them tear-off the roof (one layer) and re-roof the entire house with 30-year architectural roof system. No plywood replacement. They put new shingles over existing plywood. Replaced two 2x2 skylights (per Robert's measurements) but the owner supplied the skylights. Removed wood awning over a small deck off the master bedroom and hauled away the wood.

I WANT TO ADDRESS THE CUSTOMER'S COMMENTS POINT BY POINT. RESPONSE TO COMMENT #1: UNFORESEEN EXTRA WORK IS NOT UNCOMMON IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY. RESPONSE TO COMMENT #2: OPTION OF COLORED METAL IS WRITTEN PLAINLY ON THE CONTRACT. THIS PARTICULAR CUSTOMER DIDN'T CHOOSE A DIFFERENT COLOR ON THE CONTRACT. RESPONSE TO COMMENT #3: WE TAKE EVERY CUSTOMER SERIOUSLY W/ THE DEEPEST CONCERN. WITH EVERY JOB COMPLETED WE MAIL OUT A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SURVEY, AND THE OWNER PERSONALLY READS EACH ONE.

They are excellent people. They came out and did the job and cleaned up the mess. I couldn't say enough good things about those people. I really liked that when they came out to give a bid he gave me a folder with the addresses of other jobs he's done so I could drive around and look at the different colors. They always checked with me throughout the process to make sure everything was done to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: Complete tear off and roof replacement.

The owner came out himself and did the bid. I searched around and the price was in the range of other similar products/servies. I hired them, they completed the job quickly and effeciently. The owner called that night to make sure I was satisfied with the work done.
