It went well, although I was surprised at how long it took them. I didn't realize they were going to wrap all the furniture pieces, and that was time-consuming. Next month they'll move everything to my new place. They said because I was putting things in storage, the items needed more care and preparation. The price I listed here is for the initial move only. I also have to pay for storage and the second move.
Description of Work: I needed a small amount of furniture and about 50 boxes of belongings moved to their storage while awaiting the completion of my new condo.

Part went fine, part didn't. 3-man crew was much faster and more efficient than the standard 2. When the estimator came out, I asked if I had to have everything packed. He said no, the crew would finish packing anything that was left. When the crew arrived, they asked why everything wasn't packed. I told them what their company rep had said. Their reply was flatly "We don't do that." They did not check with the boss to see what I might have been told, they simply refused to do the packing. I had to call the office and tell the boss what happened, and then he called the crew. When they came back in after their break, they said that they would in fact finish the packing, and were even bothered that I was doing some of it myself. When they arrived at the new place, they started bringing things in, putting them where I wanted them. When they brought my electronic organ in, attached the pedal board, and plugged it in, I sat down to try it. The keyboards didn't work at all; the pedals stayed stuck on when I released them. I commented on this to the crew member who was standing there. The problem with the organ didn't get written on the manifest, though a bookshelf they damaged was put on. I mentioned getting the organ fixed, that I should do it right away; the crew member said "O that's okay, you have 6 months." I did not contact the moving company about fixing the organ, I just called my organ tech and had him come and fix it. He told me that it definitely was damaged in the move, with more damage than a routine move would cause. When I sent the bill in to Priestley, about 4 months after the move, thinking that was okay, I received a partial payment, and a reply that said, in part, "Was surprised when you didn't call or give us a chance to handle or inspect any damage." Also got a copy of the state tariff laws saying claims had to be filed within 3 months. When I called the company, we were able to work this out amicably, and they sent me the balance of the repair cost.

We've used them for 30 years. They're always super efficient. I trust them and they do great work. In the past, they have also moved one upright and two grand pianos for us. Scheduling is great and they are fast and efficient. The price was better than anticipated and they did a beautiful job packing the boxes.

They were highly recommended on Angie's List so we went with them. Their intake people were excellent in just getting things into the system quickly. They were on time. Everything went very well. The price was reasonable. They could come out and do the work on a short notice. Everything went according to plan. There were no surprises. They're very punctual. They knew exactly what they were doing. We had some difficult things like a king mattress where we had to move down to the stairway. They got a way to do it and they got it done.

At the end of the day, my husband said, "So, how do you feel about the move?" I said, "Great! How do you feel about it?" "I'm ecstatic," he said. Let me tell you what went right with this move: EVERYTHING! Friends who used Priestley a couple of years ago recommended them, and I included them on the short list of highly-rated local movers I contacted for estimates. Priestley immediately set themselves apart by being the only company willing to send someone out to do a walk-through of our current home and give us a detailed estimate. It came in $400-500 higher than any other, but I trusted it much more than the others, because they'd had a good look at what we were actually asking them to do. I figured the other guys' estimates could only be low, whereas the Priestly estimate was likely to be on-target. As it turned out, we came in under budget; I think this was partly because when Chris did the walk-through, he pointed out several items that it would be helpful for us to have broken down and ready to haul on the day, and we did them all. Heed your estimator's advice, it will save you time and money! On the day, the crew showed up right on time, got set up quickly, then took a tour to survey the job. We had Tony, John, and David, and they were all superbly hard-working and conscientous. What a terrific crew! They worked quickly, but with due care for our possessions--none of which are any too precious, but it was nice they approached it as if they were. (People are weird about their stuff, right?) It was a cool morning, thank goodness, but after a couple of hours, they wanted to take a short rest/rehydration break, which Tony was almost apologetic about. He reassured us it would be brief, and wouldn't count against our bill. We appreciated the communication and, again, the conscientous approach to our time and money. Once the truck was loaded up and over at the new house, Tony took a really smart approach to the unload--we had color-coded boxes by what room they should end up in, so he was in the truck building stacks by color, so the other two guys could just load a dolly, run the whole stack into the right room, drop it off and run back for more. JUST the sort of thing you hope will happen when you bother to color-code your move! This also contributed to the move taking 2 hours fewer than estimated. I don't know what more to tell you--everything you hope will happen when you hire a moving company, happened. The office staff (when I called to book and they called back a week before the move to re-confirm) were very pleasant. Chris, the estimator (and President of the company, we later found out) was terrific, and very accurate. The crew they sent us were hard-working professionals. The whole thing was done with an absolute minimum of fuss or angst. You might see Priestly costs a teensy bit more than some of the other guys. PAY IT. You'll get service more than commensurate with the cost. Now, I hope we won't be moving again any time soon, and yet, I'd like to find more reasons to hire Priestley & Sons. I'll guess just have to make sure that anyone who I know who's moving in Portland goes to them. Including you, if you're reading this. Want to be ecstatic at the end of your moving day? Let these guys take care of you!

The team sent by Priestley to move our possessions was top notch. At both the old residence and the new residence they toured the home to "get the lay of the land" and answer our questions and address our concerns. They put down tarps and moving blankets to protect the homes, and they wrapped in blankets or shrink wrapped the furniture to protect it. They moved everything with care. Consequently, there was only one inconsequential breakage. Except for that there was no damage to the furniture or the homes. After the move they again toured the home to ensure that everything had been placed where we wanted. We were greatly impressed by the professionalism and care exhibited by their estimator, Chris, who gave us the bid, and the team of movers led by Arthur. We highly recommend them and would gladly use them again.

I have used this company twice now, once in 2007 from Olympia to Portland, and recently from Eugene to Portland. The quote given was fair and the office staff were all responsive to my questions. The crew arrived only about 20 minutes later than expected (which is pretty good long distance). The three man crew were all polite, professional, and worked very quickly. I felt comfortable that all my belongings would be well taken care of in the move, and in storage as well. The storage costs are reasonable. There was a misunderstanding for one of the charges on the bill, and although apparently it was my misunderstanding Jonathan offered a solution he felt was the right thing to do. I can't say enough good things about this group.

We used this mover to move us from Fairview to Happy Valley in 2006. We used them for the heavy things such as beds, china closet, etc. We had other things all packed and ready to go. They took lots of care with my china cabinet and none of the glass shelves broke. They were helpful and appreciated (I think) that we were ready for them. They did a very nice job.

I could not have asked for anything more. It was totally professional from the first inquiry to the estimate to the move. When I requested additional forms for insurance I received a call to make sure I understood what could and could not be insured. The actual movers were conscientious, courteous, and friendly. The move was accomplished in 1/2 hour less than the estimate, so I was certainly not low-balled. I am very pleased and they would have my unconditional recommendation.

We used these guys when we moved locally in 2001 and then again in 2012. We had a somewhat complicated move both times as we had a houseful and a storage unit full, too. We did some of the packing and they did the rest. They loaded up from the house, went to the storage unit and loaded that, too. Then unloaded both at the new house. Both the packing and the moving came in below estimated costs. They took good care of our stuff, packing and hauling and unloading. They were punctual and got it all done in one day -- on what turned out to be a very hot day. There were 2 minor damages which their insurance paid off promptly, even though one wasn't covered. Friendly and easy to work with. We would definitely use them again.

The team arrived on time, loaded the truck with the items my MIL was taking and with the boxes we'd already packed, unloaded and set up the apartment with under my supervision in half the estimated time. Completely professional, pleasant, polite, and efficient. They added two workers at the unloading end, and the job still came in at just over half the original estimate. They took excellent care of my MIL's possessions. The whole process was practically painless. I wish I'd had the presence of mind to tip them before they left, because the earned it!

The Priestly Crew arrived on time and prepared and ready to hustle! They helped me pack my lamps and other odd shaped items with care and expertise. They did a great job wrapping my upholstered furniture, mirrors and smaller art work; not so much my wood furniture. At one point they used an un-padded hand truck which resulted in some dings and scratches on the tops and edges of a dresser and desk. But all in all nothing broken and all accounted for. They were careful to read box labels to sort and correctly place boxes marked for either the apartment or storage unit which was much appreciated. They were very professional and polite at all times. I would use them again but pay better attention to the wrapping and handling of wood furniture. I would also try to provide more of my own packing material to save $ as their cardboard packing material provided was very expensive.

Tony, John and Mitchell showed up right about when expected, figured out the best way to park the truck in the parking lot and came up to get started. I gave them the overall plan for the day which included some items being dropped at my house and not moved in total to my mom's new place. I was very impressed with the speed of the guys - being paid by the hour -- only took short breaks. I was tired just watching them, and on one of the hottest days of the year! For a local move, they still took the care to wrap furniture pieces in cardboard and blankets to avoid damage. They finished right around 6pm, and undoubtedly earned every penny of their wages that day!

I called three local movers and while none provided on the ground visits to estimate my local move of only approx 2 rooms of furniture including antiques, all gave feedback on the phone re number of hours and approx. costs. Preistly & Sons on the phone provided the most helpful and accurate prediction of my load; they called several days ahead to remind me of the date, they showed up on time and in my case, had a third worker who was being trained (at no cost to me). Workers were courteous and professional, were supervised by the driver, and completed the job faster than estimated and at less cost - for a totally satisfactory experience.

The quote was done quickly and was very competitive. We scheduled our move easily, despite it being the height of the summer moving season. A couple weeks later we found out we were able to move in earlier than expected and I called to reschedule the move. They were able to bring up the move date, but there weren't any slots open for packing right then. I was nervous about this, but the nice lady on the phone assured me that in the decades she'd been scheduling these things, that something would open up. Sure enough, a couple days later it did and we were able to have two guys come out and get us all boxed up and ready to go for moving day. On moving day, we had four guys and two trucks show up right on time and they eagerly got to work. Everything got loaded up well within the scheduled time, including a stop at our storage unit. We left them to finish that up and we headed off to the new house. They arrived a bit later (after stopping for their lunch break) and once more got to work. The guys were so full of energy and pep that it made me tired just watching them running around with big, heavy boxes. We had one or two breakages, of minor things I didn't care about, but the guys very promptly brought it to my attention in each case. The whole process went very smoothly and on time. I was very impressed with their wonderful attitudes. When we unpacked our boxes, everything that the packers had done came through beautifully. They took great care of our fragile items and we were very happy with the entire experience end-to-end.

We had several companies quote our move but felt most comfortable with Priestley and sons. Our best guess was that our stuff would be very close to fitting in one truck. Everyone but Priestly would only bring two guys and one truck (even when we asked for two trucks). We didn't want to be in the situation where they couldn't fit everything in the truck and would have to come back later. We also liked the fact that Priestly came out to our home and took a look around to do the estimate. Some other movers simply guessed by the size of the home. On moving day the crew of 4 guys showed up in the two trucks and were very quick and efficient. They loaded all of the furniture into one truck and all of the boxes into another truck. Splitting the work this way meant they wasted very little time in arranging items on the truck. They knew they had plenty of space and optimized the time based on that fact. They were always very careful with the items they carried and did a great job of communicating and asking where things needed to be. I do ding them a bit on price (good not excellent) because they charge more/hour than others, but in our case we probably saved money because the four guys and two trucks were able to accomplish the move so quickly (4 hours from start to finish). Still if their price/hour was at the rate mandated by the state it would have been even less. It is a small quibble, and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. They are very good at what they do and probably worth the little bit extra money.

THIS IS AN AWESOME COMPANY WITH QUALITY EMPLOYEES!!!!!! We had an excellent experience!!! Everyone we spoke to on the phone was so kind and helpful and very thorough in explaining the process and fees involved in packing our home and moving us. We had two bids for their services - one that we received in our home several weeks before our move for total home packing and moving, and then another revised packing bid as we were able to pack about 70% of our belongings on our own. Both estimates were at our home and both times Chris from Priestly was on time, professional and efficient. The day before the mover, the packers were amazing! Again, on time, very efficient, focused and professional. On the day of the move, four of the nicest, hardest working men showed up and moved us with both care and at a fast pace. They were kind and respectful and a few times I saw them running back to their truck in between loads - amazing! We had interviewed two other companies and were convinced early on that Priestly and Sons was the right choice - our decision was further reinforced once the crew went to work on packing and moving us. We will continue to recommend Priestly and Sons and will use them in the future if we ever need packing or moving assistance again! =)

Both moves went extremely well. The men knew how to handle the various kinds of items and were very deliberate and careful. The work was done as scheduled, at the agreed price, nothing damaged, and everything in the proper place.
Description of Work: Priestley & Sons moved furniture into a container for curbside storage while our floors were replaced, and then moved back after the remodel was complete. Some items were moved to our covered deck, others to various other rooms in the house, but the majority went outside into a steel container. Living room and dining room furniture were moved, plus a washer and dryer. Some of the antique furniture is very delicate and has been in the family for generations. The upright piano is not a family piece, but is about 100 yrs old and extremely heavy.
