Description of Work: Poor customer service! Beware! We had moisture damage in bedroom ceilings from an unattached bathroom exhaust vent from the bath remodeling. After repeated calls to fix it, a worker came and hooked it up properly, but they took no responsibility for the damage. Even though he could have remedied it with his liability insurance, he ignored and blew us off. He got paid and never looked back.

O Connell Dickson began our project with a clear and concise plan that kept us apprised as the job progressed. If any unforseen issues arose he quickly and calmly solved the problem. His team worked with skill and always arrived on time with a specific work plan of everything that needed to be accomplished in a given day. Both communication and time management are of the most importance to Custom Touch. Their attention to detail ( matching existing crown molding) was refreshing. We are thrilled with the result. Our kitchen turned out beautifully and we are thrilled with the result.
Description of Work: Gutted a 25 year old Kitchen and installed all new appliances and cabinets supplied by a separate company

I used CTC for updating my Kitchen. OConnell helped me redesign my kitchen island with a beautiful Brazilian granite showpiece for the center of my kitchen, with upgraded cabinetry to go underneath. We picked out a different color to contrast nicely with my existing cabinets that really didn't need replaced. We also updated all the backsplash, new quart counters all around, double ovens and oversized wine fridge. I also had them upgrade my bar area with new sink/facet, quarts, and glass tile. Tony and Oconnell arrived on time everyday, and my dogs just loved them both. Everyday when I came home, my house was clean picked up and organized. They both were true professionals, that tolerated my changes, and concerns perfectly. I have since used CTC on other projects since my kitchen. He did work on my outside kitchen area, upgraded my bar with mirror and custom glass shelving. Everything that CTC touched in my home looks amazing and I truly couldn't be happier.
Description of Work: Updated Kitchen, bar area, outside kitchen, crown molding, painting.

Finding O'Connell Dickson and Custom Touch Contracting was one of the luckier days of my life as a landlord. He and his long-established crew are amazing and I cannot recommend Custom Touch highly enough. After a frustrating search for a contractor, I finally found him through a recommendation from Dave at Kitchen Concepts, and the whole process worked beautifully throughout. O'Connell had previously done the work on Kennedy School and other McMenamin locations, and he knows his business and how to schedule and deal with customers. His guys were always on time, always cleaned and tidied up, worked tirelessly, knew their business, and were easy to have around. O'Connell is a problem-solver, which is perfect for an old house (1925) and he figured out how to squeeze in a full bath upstairs and get it approved by the city. His price was not quite but almost the lowest bid; two other bids were absurdly high. Any extra costs came from the unexpected bad plumbing and some changes I made. All in all, a terrific experience.
Description of Work: Completely gutted and remodeled a perfectly horrible kitchen. Installed a full bath in an upstairs closet, making a master suite. Built a basement "away room" and rebuilt the plumbing, which it turns out was rusted and leaking. Additional costs were for flooring, countertops, appliances, fixtures, cabinets for a total of $60,000.

O’Connell and his team were quite simply amazing to work with, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. They arrived right at 8:00 every day so we could discuss the previous day’s work, they stayed on-task throughout the day, and they did a great job cleaning up before leaving. O’Connell was very responsive to any concerns we had and the quality of work performed by his team was outstanding—inspections were passed with flying colors. When problems arise—as they always do in a project of this magnitude—he is a calm, creative, and competent problem-solver who can simultaneously fix the issue while at the same time “talking down” a worried homeowner. We felt like we were in good hands throughout the whole process and the result was exactly what we had hoped for!
Description of Work: Complete remodel of kitchen, including removal of popcorn ceiling, installation of can lighting, updated electrical and plumbing, installation of cabinets, countertops and appliances, and refinishing of hardwood floors. Also extended hardwood floor, matching new wood to old, and installed a new door from kitchen to garage. House had not been updated since early 80's, so work required was extensive.

Hands down, this is a completely amazing contractor. He and his team were always on time, responsive to any concern we had and, at the end of each workday, vacuumed everything in the renovation area and in the garage where they worked.. O'Connell was a dream to work with--could not be more service oriented, concerned about doing quality work or insuring there were no unnecessary expenditures. His team includes two other people, both of whom are highly competent in a wide variety of areas. The three of them worked together seamlessly. We are coming up on two years after they completed their work and we are fully satisfied with everything they did. The new kitchen has fundamentally altered and enhanced how we live in our house. We could not recommend Custom Touch too much. If you want someone you can count on to do great work, this is the contractor to talk to. Larry Kirkhart
Description of Work: Major kitchen renovation, including removing three walls, sealing off one closet, enlarging food pantry, creating a closet, installing lighting, sound system, cork floor, mud room floor, under-cabinet lighting, new circuit breaker system and all new appliances. In addition, they removed a chandler in dining room, installed recessed lighting and painted the dining and living room walls

We hired him for the project because he's done several jobs for us in the past. He had an outstanding quality of work, did a reasonably good job of completing the project on schedule, and was easy to work with when discussing the scope of the job. He was also very responsive when completing the actual project, but he hasn't been as responsive now that the work is completed.
Description of Work: He remodeled our master bathroom over the course of five weeks. This included large amounts of tile work, new countertops, and the removal of a wall among other things.

It went extremely well. O'Connell Dixon, the project manager, sat down with us when we considered each project and listened carefully to what we wanted done. He was not hesitant to offer alternate suggestions if he thought that something we suggested was not the best choice for the area we wanted redone. In one case, with the kitchen remodel, he talked us out of an addition because it would not have had a positive effect on the outside of the house. Meant less money for him, but a better looking house for us. He was also a great help dealing with a furnace contractor, a fellow we knew through a relative who we would never recommend to anyone, and steering us toward someone who was far more competent and honest. All projects under Custom Touches care have been well worth every penny spent. We'd hire them again in a heartbeat if we had anything left to do.
Description of Work: We discovered Custom Touch through a friend who was having her kitchen remodeled by them. We were impressed and contracted with them to remodel our kitchen. We were so pleased with the result and with their work ethic that we hired them to remodel our attic space creating a beautiful library and refurbishing a bedroom. In addition, they added some doors which gave us easy access to the crawl space under the attic which quadrupled our storage space. In doing this work and the library, they also upgraded the woodwork to a beautiful cherry. In addition to those 2 jobs, we hired Custom Touch to upgrade the main floor bath and to turn our concrete basement into a family room, bathroom, bedroom, and laundry. Custom Touch was able to do this work in the basement while also leaving a room for storage and a workroom for my husband. I don't remember how much we spent, but the changes made to our 1930s home were all well worth the cost. The above date is not accurate, nor is the amount spent. I couldn't submit this review if those spaces weren't filled in. We've had at least 4 major remodels done by O'Connell Dixon and Custom Touch since around 2002 to about 2009. I'm sure that the price is a low figure considering what we have done. Custom Touch does not do cheap work, but the results reflect careful workmanship and will last a long time.

Custom Touch Contracting was highly recommended by Kitchen Concepts for the entire project, including cabinet installation. Custom Touch Contracting is owned by O'Connell Dickson, who leads a small team of multi-talented craftsmen (Tony and Scott) who do rough and finish carpentry, dry wall installation, painting, wall and floor tiling, as well as supporting the work of plumbing and electrical contractors (before and after), with whom they have had a long standing working relationship. O'Connell exudes positive energy and good humor. His advanced people skills make him easy to talk to and to work for. Throughout the project he maintained a pattern of being there at 8:00 am to start the day and on the job at 4:00 pm at the end of the work day. In addition to supervising the work, he also actively participated in projects, as needed. The number of trips taken during the day in search of materials was greatly reduced by the presence of a very large, well-equipped, tool/materials trailer that remained on site throughout the project. Flexibility is also part of O'Connell's personality. The project expanded as it progressed, largely due to my expanding vision of what the outcome could be. For example, the original plan was for vinly flooring at the kitchenette end of the room. It was then upgraded to porcelain tile in the main room and bathroom, then to a radiant heating system underneath the tile. O'Connell was open to these changes and any added challenges they presented. One day, after a regular workday, he drove me to a contractors' warehouse, and helped in the selection of 3 diferent kinds of tile needed for floor, wall, and fireplace surround. His bid contained essential descriptions of the work to be undertaken. One section contained an expanded and quot;broom clauseand quot; which the team clearly met on a regular basis during the project. Each day, the work area was swept and/or vaccumed as needed. Carpeted sections were protected by either laying down a plastic carpet mask or actual removal and relaying of the carpet. Also, dust creating projects were isolated with floor-to-ceiling plastic curtains and with a filter placed over a cold air return. Tight places often presented opportunities for problem solving, and the Custom Touch Contracting team was up to the task. After the stacked washer/dryer unit was slid into its closet space, it left no room to access the water shut off valves in case of emergency. Tony came up with the solution of rerouting the water pipes to make shut-off valves conveniently accessible through the crawl space door. The entire project took approximately 5 weeks. Four weeks were needed for manufacture of cabinets, and an additional week for manufacture and installation of countertops. Meanwhile, all of the preparatory work had been completed--in place for immediate followup. I am very pleased with the outcome, e.g., the quality of the cabinets and tiles, and the painstaking precision of their installation by Custom Touch-- transforming a storage space into an inviting family entertainment room. Since I'm already planning to have O'Connell Dixon and his Custom Touch Contracting team return for a deck project, I have no hesitation in recommending them to friends and neighbors for accomplishing their remodeling needs.
Description of Work: Purchase & installation of approx. 20 linear feet of Edgewater oak cabinets and Chroma quarz countertops, including an island for the kitchenette at one end of a large, daylight basement family room and a gas fireplace in a corner at the other end of the room. Installation of appliances. Much work needed to be done before this could be accomplished: --Addition of a new power source (sub panel) and multiple new circuits for appliances, lighting, radiant floor heating, & fireplace controls. --Extension of water supply system and addition of a water re-circulation pump. --Installation of a radiant heating system under porcelain tile in main room and bathroom. --Framing and dry walling closet for stacked washer/dryer, for a new corner wall for fireplace, & a clothes closet. --Painting main room and 2 small, adjacent rooms. --Replacing doors for 3 closets with matching wood trim. --Moving crawl-space access door and cold air return vent to make room for cabinets. --Installation of an indoor gas line from the meter to fireplace area. Once cabinets and counters were installed, the backsplash area was tiled to full height. Once the fireplace was installed, a slate tile surround was added, then capped with a log-style mantel. ________________________________________________________________________________________ Cabinets & countertops, and their installation were purchased through Kitchen Concepts ($12,000). Appliances, including gas fireplace (approx. $7,000).
