Description of Work: Had Quinns check out chemical content of my rural rental's water supply, and install filter to clear-up what to that point had been rusty looking water. That made for unhappy tenants. |Since I was out of town on vacation, had to do everything by phone. The workman was knowledgeable and efficient. No problem there. But the bill was much higher than I had anticipated from my first chat with the workman who was on the job site, evaluating my needs. |The problem started the next day during a phone chat with the workman's boss, re. some upgrades he tried to saddle me with. |The water system checked out to be blessed with reasonably soft water, as was told me by the workman on the site. Yet the next day, in a phone conversation while I was vacationing 500 miles away, the "boss" who was allegedly the "filter professional" tried persistently to upgrade me to adding water softener equipment, saying it would help clear the water. |He didn't know that I was aware I already had soft water and was only in need of a filtering device. |I responded, no, no, no to his sales pitch. Naturally, knowing the water was already "soft," I became wary of his attempts to in my view, pad the bill. |So in the end, they did their thing and I was presented with a $760 bill, upon returning home a week or so later. I was thinking $350+-. |I called and made an appointment to resolve the issue, as I wanted to be fair. The "professional" in my view didn't address the issue clearly, claimed additional work was done at site, etc. Yet none of this was clearly stated on the first unreadable, gobbly-g*** invoice sent me. |Again, an item that ired me. |So I asked my rental tenant just how much work went on when the workman was there, and he responded he wasn't certain, but it didn't seem like that much- 4 hours or so the first day, perhaps a couple the next. He wasn't sure. |However, he did tell me the Quinn's workman spent some time flushing and clearing out the basement water heater, which was not on the original invoice and I was not aware of. |And I have no argument with that; I'm sure it was necessary to clear all the pipes from rusty colored water (high iron content). |So, in fairness the workmanship was great, but the vigorous attempt to upsell me on something I didn't need was a bit devious. |I spoke by phone with the nice lady-owner of the firm, and she was more than willing to meet with me and resolve the difference. But not wanting to cause the "professional" grief, I went in and listened to his side of the story. |And while I wasn't entirely satisfied, he did knock off $70 bucks, saying there were two errors on the invoice. |So, would I use them again? Yes! BUT FOR SURE, NEXT TIME I'LL BE PRESENT TO SPEAK FACE TO FACE WITH THE "PROFESSIONAL" AS TO DEFINE EXTENT OF WORK, ETC. AND GET AN ESTIMATE. |Competitors don't charge as much as Quinn's to roll out a workman to the site, and they're a good deal cheaper in other areas as well. But since I had unhappy tenants, I needed the work done pronto. |So I've got no gripe re. work quality, and in all fairness, maybe we just didn't have the best communication, since it was done by phone. |Next time, get a quote or an estimate. I intend to use them again come December to integrate another separate well into one system. But trust me, I'll get a quote.
