+ -1 moreAs part of a larger remodel and repair operation, our contractor installed a new front door purchased from Home Depot. The install was not properly aligned and would not close or seal properly. The contractor did a great job in other areas such as framing, siding, deck building etc., but properly installing and aligning a door is a special skill that not everyone has. It is hard to find a real door hanger but after a search we found Tom. He was able to take apart and reinstall the sash and door and we now have a beautifully operating and sealed front door. I would highly recommend Tom for any door problems you have, he is a real craftsman.

+ -1 moreThe work went very well and Tom fixed things in a hurry. I had to ask him how he learned to be such a good handyman and found out that he has actually been one since he was a small child helping in his fathers lumber yard. Tom is diligent and very calm. He seems to be able to tackle any fit-it job but says doors are his specialty. While in my laundry room a huge black spider crawled along the wall by the dryer and Tom very calmly reached over to capture it and put it back outside where it belonged. Unfortunately, the spider got away but I was impressed at how non-excited Tom was. I guess I just don't like spiders!
Description of Work: Tom showed up right on time, examined the laundry room door to confirm why it was difficult to close. The weatherstripping had come loose. The groove that it fit into was no longer wide enough to hold the stripping. Tom shaved off some of the wood grove to widen it and secured the weather stripp[ing with very small nails. As he was testing the closing of the door he discovered that the deadbolt lock was not functioning. He quickly took that apart and found the problem and fixed it..

+ -1 moreHe came out and inspected, and then told me he could do this, no problem. I scheduled a time, and he repaired the weather stripping, made adjustments to the door jam where cold air was leaking during winter, and replaced the door handle, etc. It took him a couple hours at a very reasonable price...about 1/10th of what Home Depot told me I'd need to spend. This is quite the specialty, but if you need a door repaired, Tom is an expert. For the first time in years, my door opens, closes and locks with ease.
Description of Work: Our front door weather stripping is an older style metal type arrangement that had dented and made it impossible to easily close the door. Over time we had slammed that door (pushed, pulled, etc) so that it was very hard to open, shut and lock. And because it affected the way the door hung, air was leaking around the door. I talked to Home Depot and another handyman, and they said I needed to replace the whole door -- which is one piece with windows around the door. Very expensive. And then I found Tom Brown on Angie's List. He specializes in doors and doors/windows, and knows precisely how to repair these older doors. His business is just him, and it's a simple operation.

+ -1 moreTom picked up the stormed door from Home Depot and installed it. He recommended reversing the opening which had always been a pain. He also advised against replacing front door and repaired it instead. Everything works very well and the work was great.
Description of Work: Installed new storm door; repaired front door and door sill; installed new handset; and fixed garage door without cost - it was a very quick and easy fix for him but it would have cost at least a house call from anyone else.

+ -1 moreMr Brown ( a one-man operation) came when he said he would, fixed what I asked - and then some - and didn't try to talk me into anything exotic. He's been doing this for many years, and really knows his stuff. He also hangs doors. I will call him back in a flash if I need him.
Description of Work: Weather Stripping Repair: interlocking metal on bottom of doors. This stuff is impossible to find, and the devil to fix. (Most is now cheap plastic stuff from a home improvement store). Mine was bent on two doors and wouldn't interlock. Mr Brown was able to reform it without removing the doors, so that it works as new. While he was at it, he tightened a vertical strip on another door and adjusted a strike plate.

+ 0 moreAfter our carpet installers completed they told us they could not reinstall the doors because of the carpet. We needed a door expert right way. Tom came out on short notice and did an excellent job. We will call him again for other door work.
