They were terrible. Their people are inexperienced therefore their service is dubious.

They performed the bi-annual maintenance on my furnace/heat pump. They are prompt. They get in and get out. They are very professional and helpful with any questions I may have. I have never waited more than a few days for them to come out for service. I have even had them come at the end of the day that I called for service because of a problem and I was leaving town in a day or two. I know that they will be there as soon as they can. I love the gals that answer the phone. They are the nicest and most helpful.
Description of Work: Sent me a reminder that it's time for maintenance on my furnace/heat-pump, so I call for an appointment.

Description of Work: The tech came out on a Saturday. He was incredibly helpful even after it turned out that it was not my air conditioning system that was the problem. He contacted an electrician while at the house and the issues with an outside power problem were fixed that day.

The service was incomplete. He told me everything was checked and cleaned. He also told me I needed a new Air Conditioner. I got several Companies to come bid the job for a new Air Conditioner. Each one of them checked my furnace and air conditioner and told me how DIRTY they were. When I told them I had just within a few days had it serviced by James Hearing and Air, they could not believe it. Both the furnace and air conditioner is coated inside with a layer of dust. The Invoice says and quot;cleaned burners, flame sensor and vacuumand quot;, clearly he did not do any of it. I have asked for a refund because I need to hire someone else to do the service.

Bad record keeping a hassle.
Description of Work: Great service in the field. Accounting folks not that great. We had an excellent installation of our heat pump and furnace in 2001 & have been very happy with the techs who come for preventive maintenance visits. Getting the office folks to keep correct account of our payments for maint. visits has been awful. I always have to keep meticulous records of payments & visits. Last week the tech came for a maintenance visit which was pre-paid. He asked for money. I told him that it was a pre-paid visit. He called the office & confirmed that we owed the money. I wrote him a check. It wasn't his fault. I called the office the next day & asked for them to check their records. They said they'd check and call back. After three biz days I called back. They hadn't looked at the account. They looked while I was on the phone & discovered that I was right. The visit was in fact pre- paid. This is the last straw. We are switching companies for our maintenance. This a typical experience.

During a cold spell and on a Saturday, my thermostat would not reset and I feared the furnace was ka-poot. I called this company (whom I had used before) and they set up a time for service for Saturday. Bradley came when expect and was fast and efficient if not overly friendly or communicative. He checked the furnace and then went to the thermostat. He diagnosed it was the thermostat and told me how much I would be paying to replace it. He said he did not charge me time and a half for it being a Saturday. But it cost $424.00 to replace my programmable thermostat with a basic model. I asked about a senior discount and Bradley said it was worked into the price. He did not give me a manual, but did give me the basic and easy instructions for the thermostat. I was advised, before hand, that it would cost $135 for just the visit and diagnostics. But, I still feel the price was quite steep for a basic thermostat installation.

They were able to accommodate our request for next-day service. The technician |arrived promptly and examined the work to be done. He needed a part that he was |able to locate, and the job of replacing the circuit board and installing a new thermostat was done on the following day. We were pleased with the result and feel relieved that this was accomplished without a hitch. Not having made a price comparison, we have no way to determine a fair price.

It went well, see above.
Description of Work: A few weeks ago our 13 year old heat pump wouldn’t turn on. We had planned to replace it this year. We had a tech from James Heating come out and after finding and replacing a blown fuse which promptly blew again he said it could be a wiring issue and after about an hour he said it was the defrost board. Several hundred dollars to replace, labor included. If we replaced that part now and then replaced the pump that money would be gone. So we decided to replace the heat pump and air handler. I got 5 bids, one from James Heating. Normally 3 bids would be enough for me but there were code changes, refrigerant changes and the issue of using our old but still good pipes or re-piping. I wanted to see if there was a consensus among them. The other companies all seemed good, knowledgeable, reputable, good reviews on Angie’s List, references, warranties, guarantees, maintenance etc. While there may have been a tech or a salesman I liked more than another, I believe any one of them could have done the job. 2 bids were way above the others and I could not see, for me, where the value was in paying the additional $. All bids were for a 15 SEER heat pump with HSPF of 9.0 and a matching air handler. Every HVAC uses a different brand heat pump. The research I did didn’t show a clear winner by brand. There were as many positive as negative comments for the brands we’ve all heard of like Trane, Lennox, Carrier as well as other popular but not as well-known names as Goodman or American Standard. The minimum standard is now 13 SEER so a 15 is more efficient. Deciding which SEER is best depends on the needs and budget of the owner. At this point, even though we had had decent weather it had been 2 weeks and we needed to make a decision. I had asked a lot of questions so the delay was partially mine. But I was comfortable that any of the companies would do a good job so it came down to who could install the soonest. That was James Heating. They said they’d arrive at 9a and be done by 3p. They arrived a little before 9a and got right to work. They had to flush the lines and then install the heat pump and air handler and relocate the electrical disconnect box. They let me know they had to leave to go build a section of the air handler, and they’d be back in an hour and they were. They finished the heat pump, air handler and relocated the disconnect box. They installed the new thermostat and showed us how to use it and gave us the manual. All the HVAC companies I talked to except one, use the same model Honeywell thermostat. By 4p or so they were done after testing the ac and heat, showing me how to change the filter, cleaning up, going over the invoice, leaving us the equipment documentation/warranty paperwork and letting us know they stand behind their work and to give them a call with any issues. We have heat! It’s only been a few days but it seems that we don’t hear the heat pump turning on as much as the earlier one. The house seems more comfortable but that could just be the fact we’re not cold!

It went very well. They had a cancellation the previous day, so the pump was immediately available. Two men for an entire day completed the installation. We were finally cool again.
Description of Work: Our heat pump failed. They came out tested it and told us the pump could not be fixed. They replaced the pump on the outside of the house and the coils inside the garage that were part of the heating/cooling system.
