They came out and gave a quote and even gave a discount in pricing. They came out when scheduled. They showed up right at 8:00 a.m. and they were done in 55 minutes and had the 70 foot tree down. They also did a wonderful job. They were punctual. They brought in the proper equipment. They did exactly what they promised. They gave pricing for just removing the tree and putting it on the ground and they also gave pricing if you wanted them to clean the debris.

They arrived on time. There were several workers. They worked beautifully together, with each doing their particular job. They were neat and when they left you would never know they just pruned a very large tree and cut it all into manageable wood pieces for firewood later. Very impressed. would call again.
Description of Work: they pruned a large fir tree in front yard. they cut and stacked the thick branches and wood and cleaned up after themselves. They did exactly what I wanted and no more. They stayed within their quote.

They returned my call promptly, and sent out someone to look at the trees and provide an immediate quote within a couple days. Apparently this is their busy season so they alerted me it would be close to a month before they could schedule me, but they put me on a "fill-in" list since the job was on the smaller side. One comment is because of that they showed up unannounced within 10 days of quoting-fortunately our nanny was home so she could move the two cars that were parked in street right where they were going to work. A heads up call would have been nice, even if it was just an hour or so ahead of time. I'm no arborist, but the job looks good to me, they pruned out a lot of branches, and cleaned up nicely, and I got a small discount. If I was here to supervise, I would have asked about possibly taking out/off a bit more, but overall it went well.

I contacted them on Monday Oct. 14 and on Wed. Oct. 17 they came out and removed the tree. They were very prompt and efficient, cleaned up after themselves and hauled the debris away. On Fri. Oct. 19 bright and early in the morning another crew member came out and ground the stump down. He also was very polite and efficient. I am very happy with the work performed and also the price and I would highly recommend Rich's Tree Service to anyone needing tree work done.
Description of Work: We had a large eucalyptus tree in the front yard that was rapidly outgrowing it's space and had been pruned several times before. When a large branch fell off the tree and crashed down to the ground on a Fri. eve.I knew that it was time for the tree to go before something more serious happened.

Excellent work and fast!
Description of Work: I had used this service 2 years ago after a lg. limb fell across the street. That particular limb myself and neighbors helped clean up. I called Richs' back once I had the city permit to do the work. They came out and did a great job. This recent time I had to call the 24hr line, and the gal said that she wasn't sure if they could make it out that day or not, but would call me back. She did and they came and did a fantastic job. Trimmed some limbs that I asked them to do and they (he) did! They worked very fast and efficient! and were on their way in about an hour or so. I have asked them to come back out to give me an estimate to complete the trimming on those trees. Looking forward to working with them again!

A crew of four arrived on time on the appointed date and set to work immediately. They had all the equipment they needed for what they needed to do, and they worked all day until about 4:00 or 4:30, leaving the property in the same condition as they found it, removing any debris from their work. When Rich came to look at the work needed, he listed everything I wanted them to do, and his crew did exactly what he had written on the estimate. The cost was expensive, but they needed some heavy equipment to do the job, and he gave me a 10% discount. I think the price was fair.
Description of Work: We had used Rich's Tree Service in 2001, and he has good reports on Angie's List, so I called him to have extensive tree and shrub pruning, two trees cut down, and control of blackberries growing on the edges of the property.

Description of Work: Called in response to advertised 10% discount. They were going to have someone come to house to estimate without me being home. After indicating that I did not wish for that to occur, Rich agreed to set an appointment with me. He arrived on time that day. I wanted to have a large Spruce removed. He strongly encouraged me to have two other trees removed and to have two rows of arbovitae trimmed--in order to reduce the risk of them bending in a snow or ice storm.. He also indicated that they would remove the trees trunk pieces for a fee--$400 and suggested that it would be unlikely that people would take the wood away if left by them. He did suggest that people might be willing take the wood from a smaller tree. He gave me a written quote. He verbally quoted $200 for Arbovitae. I agreed to all of the work. The crew arrived on time. They were very nice. They used a technique of dropping the trunk pieces on the front lawn--not sure if this is acceptable rather than tying and lowering the pieces and branches. When they dropped on piece, it bounced, taking out a section of my fence. Rich had indicated when meeting with me that they would trim to the Arbovitae to retain their natural appearance. Unfortunately, when I looked outside the crew person had topped the trees. I had to leave before the crew was finished. When I looked at the Arbovitae I noticed that on one side of the house very little had been trimmed. I put a Craiglist ad up for the wood from the one tree and had a huge response and someone came and got the wood the same day. I am confident that if I had done the same thing with the wood from the other trees that the same thing would have occurred and I would have saemed $400. Rich's crew very quickly obtained the materials to fix and fixed the fence. I asked Rich to come to house and look at the Arbotivitae and let me know if he thought they were done correctly. He did so and sent the same worker back to work on them again. The worker called me at the office and ask how much to take off--I said as much as should be taken to decrease bending in snowstorm, but not so much that they would burn and not be attractive. He admitted on the phone that he had not finished his work on the Arbovitae because the crew leader had told him to hurry up and that he was taking too long. When I returned home from work I was shocked--the worker had done what I would charaterize as "butcher" the Arbovitae--three of the trees were cut back so far that very little green remained and most were cut so much that a lot of brown and trunk showed. I emailed Rich about my dissatisfaction and indicated that I would have to replace a few trees and hopped that others would survive. I received the invoice today. The invoice indicate that cost of the arbovitaetrimming was $445.00--this is not what he quoted me and that he had discounted it by $250.00 (I assume for the poor job that they did)--which in essence bring the amount charged to what he quoted me in the first place.

Really tall trees and bushes were trimmed from around our house. They came on time, worked for about 3 hours; even climbed high up the trees to get the branches away from the house. They were professional and made sure they had fulfilled the contract to our satisfaction. Their price was reasonable for the scope of work done. We would recommend them.

I felt like he was trying to run the bill up. He told me some things I know for a fact are wrong about trimming trees, as I am familiar with tree trimming. He just did not listen to what I was asking for and would only do the job his way, which was at a much higher price.

I was told work would begin at 8 am and the crew arrived at 7:45 to set up the equipment needed. The men introduced themselves and got right to work. As the branches fell or were lowered by rope, they were put into the chipper. All three helped to saw the branches and trunk into the 16 inch lengths. About three hours into the work, one chain saw got too dull, and a sharp chain was put onto the saw to make the work go faster and easier. Their equipment all looked to be in good shape. The trucks were very clean. I commented on the cleanliness and one worker said his boss kept all the equipment in very good condition.
Description of Work: We had three large birch trees cut down. They were about 40 years old and tall. It required 3 men and took about 4 hours. One man climbed and cut, the second held the ropes for lowering branches and the third man hauled off the branches and put them in the chipper. All were concerned about the safety of all. They wore hard hats, heavy boots , safety glasses and ear plugs. The limbs were cut into 16 inches lengths

I had a large Sequoia in my front yard that dwarfed the rest of the yard and dropped a lot of needles. After doing some research (on Angie's List) and getting a number of bids, I decided to go with Rich's Tree Service. They were very responsive to my inquiries and had someone come right out to quote the job. The office staff was friendly and courteous and able to answer all my questions. The crew was prompt, knowledgable, and professional. They had all the proper equipment to quickly and safely dispose of the limbs and grind the stump. Once the tree was down, they cut it into firewood lengths so that all I had to do was split and stack it. Some damage to the yard was inevitable, but the crew kept it to a minimum. I would definitely use them again and would recommend them to anyone interested in tree service.

When Rich came to estimate trimming our four 60 year old spreading (horse) chestnuts, we talked about clearing the dead wood, increasing clearance around the house and power lines, taking out the limbs that had grown across the street and into our neighbors' trees, helping the trees to continue in good health, and making them look good. He devoted a long time discussing options. Then his friendly crew spent a whole day doing exactly what we had discussed. They are old trees and were "topped" in their youth. They look better now than after previous trimmings.

We received an estimate from Rich's Tree service; initially for tree removal and stump grinding and later we added an estimate for stump grinding debris removal. The total estimate, including a 10% discount was $502.50. Our landscaper said the estimate seemed expensive so we went back to Angies's List and got another estimate from Arborscape Ltd, Inc. Arborscape's estimate was $300.00 for exactly the same work, a 40% savings (We did not reveal the first estimate to Arborscape). The project has not yet been completed, but Arborscape is well rated, similar to Rich's Tree Service. I think it is a bit surprising to get such widely different estimates, especially when the higher estimate included a 10% discount. Lessons learned: 1. Do get more than one estimate, regardless of the cost of services rating on Angie's List. 2. Don't assume that a "discounted price" means that you are saving money, at least compared with other well rated competitors.
Description of Work: Just an estimate - no services performed.

Rich was quick to size-up the situation. First, he discouraged the removal of a tree that I had proposed for removal based on its health and surroundings. In a short visit, we were able to discuss some of the challenges of tree removal on a steep slope, while respecting the surrounding landscape. We also defined the extent of thinning of the birch canopy. He provided a written estimate a few minutes later. Next day, I called the oiffice & was able to schedule the job about 3 weeks out. On the scheduled day, the 2-man arborist team arrived about 7:45 am, ready to get to work. After accompanying me on a short tour of the site and hearing my expectations, they got to work. Challenge # 1: Removal of an alder with questionable health & stability (e.g., no leaf growth) within the low-impact limitations. It would have been much easier to cut down the tree and let it go crashing downhill rather than risk climbing the tree and cutting it section by section. The challenge was met with agility, safety, & full control. First, the arborist climbed an adjacent, healthy tree and secured his position. He then swung over to the risky tree and set his chain saw to work. Each of the limbs were secured before cutting, and with the support, of his partner on the ground, lowered, detached and set aside for removal. Once, only the trunk was left, each fire-log-sized section of the trunk was secured, cut & lowered to the ground piece by piece, and set aside for neighbors. Challenge #2 Removal of a taller, healthier alder, but one that was encroaching on the house. It had a sheer drop below--therefore, lacking the stability of the same tree on flat ground. The added swaying provided a challenge to balance. This tree was climbed directly and then, thoughfully, sectioned piece by piece into limbs for removal and fire-sized logs. The above challenges required considerable time & involved critical teamwork to achieve safely and with minimal impact on the existing surroundings. Meanwhile the canopy cleaning of 2 other alders was much less demanding. In one case, the arborist handled it himself, while his partner was thinning the birch canopy. The low impact approach to thinning the weeping birch canopy involved access from a 10 ft. ladder rather than climbing a leaning tree. I had previously begun the thinning process from a 6 ft. tree ladder, to provide a sample of density and length to be matched. This job was approached with the required patience and I was pleased with the result. Limbs removed from the site were chipped, the firewood set aside, with cleanup accomplished by rake & blower. Aside from a 30-minute lunch break, this 2-man crew worked steadily for about 6 hrs.
Description of Work: -Low-impact removal of 2 tall alders on a steep slope that was carefully landscaped below (both soft & hardscape), -Canopy cleanup of 2 other tall alders. -Low-impact canopy thinning of tall, leaning, weeping birch (not risking climbing up limbs of the birch). -Set firewood logs aside. -Remove other wood from the site. -Cleanup

Rich came out on the 17th to see what I needed to be done. Had a very nice conversation with him. Gave me a reasonable price for the work (around $500). I told him I was going to check with my wife and call him, which I did with the intention of hiring his firm, on Friday morning, the 20th. No call back. Called again on Monday morning, the 23rd. His receptionist told me she had passed along the message to him on the previous Friday. I asked that he call me to arrange details. It is now the 27th and have heard nothing.

Rich?s Tree Service is a solid company. They have done some work for us in the past and they will be coming out in a couple of weeks for another service. We haven?t had a wide experience with tree trimmers as a basis for comparison but our experience with Rich?s was positive. They have been responsive to our call. They get out promptly for bids and their bids seemed to be reasonable. Their scheduling was good; we got an appointment in a fairly short period of time.

We live on a quarter of an acre. When we moved in there were too many trees planted and squeezed into this little lot. My husband and I removed what needed to go but couldn't tackle the two curly willow trees that reached 30 to 40 feet. We felt the only way we could do it ourselves would be to get a cherry picker in our backyard but the yard's entry way would not allow it. We ended up calling a local trees removal service, Rich's. First we got a free estimate then, 6-months later called them to remove the trees. Three men showed up bright and early with their chipper and went to work. They took down the trees and never touched the undergrowth. We were concerned about a couple of specimen trees underneath one willow but they were not touched. The men left the yard exactly as they found it except for some cut up logs that are going to our neighbors for firewood.
Description of Work: We needed two 30 - 40 ft. curly willow trees removed from our tight backyard. Three men arrived and immediately went to work removing the trees and were finished in two hours. The plantings under and around the trees were not harmed, the branches were chipped, the sawdust was blown into the flowerbeds, the wood was cut into 16 inch pieces and everything was left neat and orderly by the time they left. This gardener is very impressed with their work and would recommend and use them again.

We contacted company by telephone and requested an estimate. They replied promptly and we accepted with some explanation of pruning we desired. Work was in progress when we returned home by same workman who did earlier work in back yard. Even though it was raining, he took the time to explain what needed to be done (and not done). We are very comfortable with this company and would recommend them to others.
Description of Work: He trimmed 2 very large flowering plums near the house & a street side maple. He cleaned up the yard and chipped the debris.
