The space for the refrigerator in our kitchen was too small for any appliance on the market (home built in the early 1960's. The cabinets around the space are quite nice, and we wanted to maintain the overall feel of the kitchen. JC Unger devised an ingenious approach to the modification, resulting in completion of the job in a single day. Excellent work, beautifully done.

J.C. took the time and care to make a perfect job. J.C. was able to elevate an appliance garage, in a unigue way, so that the countertops could be installed under them. Everyone else said that the garage would have to cut out. In addition, the new countertops were a quarter of an inch lower than the original tops. J.C. designed spacers that made the cabinets rest at the original height. You have to see it to believe it.

JC was wonderful, knowing that we were under the gun to get the repair done quickly, he was able to make time and did a beautiful job repairing our kitchen pipe and surrounding wall and cabinets. He gave us a list of things that we could do and/or purchase in advance to limit his time so that our cost was reduced. JC was honest and very flexible. JC was also very pleasant to work with, and although he doesn't list it, he is very good with little children who are interested in watching him work. In addition, he was very willing to answer a few odds and ends questions I had about other issues I had with the house. I would work with JC again any day.

All of the roof vents were replaced before the fall rains started, and after a waiting period to make sure there were no more leaks, a skilled sub contractor (Lloyd) repaired the ceiling plaster indoors. We are very pleased with the results, and it was a pleasure to work with JC Unger. The price was reasonable, and the final bill was less than the original estimate. We would happily hire this company again.

All work was done professionally and exceeded our expectations. They constantly queried us on what our desires were so the end result was to our satisfaction. I highly recommend them to others.

I was selling my house and called JC for some estimates. After listening to me, he recommended I sell the house without doing the repairs. He reasoned that in the current housing market, it would save time and money to NOT do the repairs. I'm so glad I listened to him! JC was EXACTLY RIGHT. He saved me a ton of money, time and headaches. What a professional! He took time and energy to give me great advice at no benefit to himself. That is a true class act. I can't imagine a more trustworthy, personable contractor.

We hired JC Unger from Unger Construction to save the day and boy did he. He is great problem solver! He found ways for us to save money on several occasions. We enjoyed both his craftsmanship and persona so much we had him back to reside and paint the house. Again a great job was done by JC and his guys! We recommend him highly!

JC at Unger Construction called me back on a Sunday. I explained my problem and he took the time to get the details. He found out that I had experience with all kinds of house repair so I sent him photos of the problem and did the tests he described and he was able to walk me through the process to fix my problem. NO CHARGE and he even followed up to make sure everything was still in order a few weeks later. Saved me well over $500 and I feel like I have made a friend. Highly recommended!!!

He was insulting and unprofessional and told me that I was stupid for buying the house. This was after he had already told me he was too busy for my project. He did email me promptly, but it felt like I was talking to a rude teenager.

JC did an excellent job, at a very fair price. His bid came in at about 1/2 the price of another respected company. He is an excellent communicator willing to explain all phases of the work. He performed under extremely difficult circumstances, in bad winter weather which had a major effect on the way the job was done, and handled all of his subcontractors in a professional manner. I would definitely hire him again.

We called 3 listings in the electrical category; JC Unger was one. He was the first one to get back to us (within an hour) and he asked a few questions and discovered that when we had flipped the breakers in our breaker box on and off, we had not pushed the breakers very firmly off before flipping them back on again (which apparently needs to be done in newer breaker boxes when you want to reset the breakers). We did that and it handled the problem. I offered to pay him for his advice and prompt help and he declined. He also noted that he is a general contractor and is not licensed to do specific electrical work, so I'm not listing this review under the "electrical" category.

From the moment that JC Unger came to provide an assessment of our damaged bath project and identify his ability to resolve the issue and complete a full master bath remodel, his attention to detail and quality were evident. He was thorough with his information and provided options, examples, product specifics, etc. He was not our least expensive bid, but he was the bid that we felt would deliver the highest quality at a fair price. And, with already spending thousands of dollars on a failed project, we were significantly trying to ensure a successful outcome by hiring someone we could confirm was capable. His knowledge, presence, and Angie's list reviews helped our confidence level. We found JC experienced, easy to communicate with, and honest. He never over-promised and under delivered - in fact the exact opposite. An example would be that on several occasions he offered us assistance or advise on additional things we were working on ourselves and not part of his contract obligation. Another example is identifying our pocket door for the master closet should have a support piece added to additionally stabilize for the frameless shower door. He paid great attention to the tile installation and specific layout and our desired design options - pre-planning cuts to ensure the start and the finish of the tile work would all be factored in. He was meticulous about cleaning up after work was performed and keeping debris contained during the project. Never did we have to oversee JC"s work because he is so quality driven. It really was a pleasure having such a professional complete our remodel. My husband actually said, "We needed JC to baby us and do a super great job because of all the horror we went through with the previous contractor." Obviously, we plan to use JC for all our future work. JC restored our faith in contractors quality and the bonus was his warm personality and fun humor!

There were some complications involved in completing this job: I was out of the country for two months; crops in the surrounding fields were being combined, and the land subsequently plowed, with accompanying flying chaff and dust. We had rain right through July, followed by intense heat in August. Unger Construction persevered through all this. JC Unger communicated with the local farmer to get tasks done between farm operations. The work was done meticulously. The surfaces were well prepared, and high quality paint was used. I have confidence that this paint job will last a long time. The house looks wonderful. At my request, JC added on numerous small repair jobs, which I have not listed here. All done competently. The house is now ship shape. JC took pains in finding matching siding for repairs on the pumphouse, which is in fact an old windmill. It needed a lot of TLC, and it got it. It was a sad old relic; now it is beautiful, and it will stand many more years as a centerpiece for our farm. JC also left water out for my roaming cat, which was very kind of him. I had a bid for half the price from another company. They never showed up. Unger Construction is not cheap, but for the price I received very good quality work. I will hire Unger Construction again for future projects.

I wound up helping a lot and I didn’t expect to be the only helper he brought with him. We didn’t discuss this so I was surprised.

JC and his team are amazing folks. We were new to home buying and just under a year of home ownership, we experienced a catastrophe of water damage due to a failure on EWEB's water infrastructure. Our basement guest suite/mother in law unit, was completely flooded. We looked and talked with 5 General Contractors before we decided to work with JC (owner of Unger Construction). We really appreciated his style, how he worked with our thoughts about how and when things could get going and worked with us extensively on the planning side of things. We thought that we were just in this for a 2-3 month re-model for the before mentioned section of our house, but this turned into an issue of, getting this older house not just repaired, but done right. My wife and I, completely agreed with JC, that getting things done, and getting things done right are two completely seperate things. JC gave us the options, his pros and his cons on what we thought was right, with what his professional opinions were. He was not only patient with us, but worked with us, our schedule, our budget, and made things work. We are still working at the house, and in our 8th month of working on the house. As we mentioned before, the house, had A LOT of damage from the water. But, once we started gutting the place, and working to get it done, this opened up a can of worms, that showed not only was the house remodeled before, but remodeled poorly, under code, and completely unsafe. When we moved upstairs, into a small kitchen update, we were unaware of the dangers lurking behind the walls. Unsafe, unprofessional electrical work done, issues with the Subfloor in the kitchen (rot from previous water damage, and other uneven sections of the flooring) that he pointed out. He knew at this point, we were getting beyond tight on our budget, and even, blew past it by a wide margin. He worked with us, providing insight, assistance, and guidance to what we could do ourselves to save BIG time $$ on this now, full on kitchen remodel. We are not only relieved that we were working with a Contractor that understands what and where we were at, but was patient to work around funds, schedules, and his other contractors that he worked with. The electricians, to the dry wall, texturing people, and help, are ALL TOP NOTCH folks that shared his care, patience, and understanding as well. Our kitchen is almost done, and our basement is absolutely gorgeous, and done not just right, but well beyond our expectations. Truly helping us through this disaster, and actually enhancing the quality of the work done, and raising the value of our home significantly with the craftmenship his company and team of contractors did for us. Not only has JC and his team been at our home, but we are already planning on other services that we need done. Interior Fireplace updating/upgrading and new doorway/entrance to our deck, and upgrading exterior lighting on the front of the house, and demolition/upgrading our car port.

I called Unger Construction when we bought a home and discovered water damage while prepping for new flooring. J.C. came out and took a look at it for us. He gave us advice on what to do next, and what we could do ourselves to save money. He even came out a second time when I called for more advice. He was very knowledgeable and professional. Realizing that I was a "newbie" at home improvement, he spoke in terms I could understand and steered us in the right direction for getting the problem corrected. We did the repair ourselves and learned a lot on the process. He even happily answered many questions unrelated to the water damage and refused a payment for his time. He gave a rough quote for potentially adding a patio covering that would eliminate water intrusion on one affected door. We intend to contract with him on that job in the next year or so.

J.C.'s offer was not the lowest bid, but it was an honest and fair price for the work done and the results achieved. He sent me a comprehensive estimate, something I really appreciate. J.C. was reliable and kept in touch with me while we waited for the ground to dry around my property sufficiently to allow for bulldozing. He got the job done quickly and left a clean, level pad suitable for building another shed one day. He did not leave behind any debris from the demolition. He did just what I asked him to do. J.C. Unger is very pleasant and professional, and I enjoyed consulting with him. He did a great job. I look forward to working with him again.

We're very happy with the results. J.C.'s great. I really appreciate how responsive he is even when he's super busy. The tile and shower look great and J.C. was able to make it work even when there were unforeseen issues.

Overall it took a little longer than both of us wanted but the results are great. Helped to fix (we hope) some roof flashing issues that may have led to the dry rot. He had to do the work on a 32 foot ladder which I don't have the nerve to do any more. He let me help out by doing some painting which probably save me some money and him some time. Overall, JC is a great guy -- very personable and honest.
