Tech was great but I did not authorize additional work that I was charged for almost double the quote I received.

Andrew was the repair man from Midgley's. He was excellent. Knew his job, efficient, logical, took apart the whole gas fireplace smoothly piece-by-piece. [Logs, mechanical parts, valves, framehousing, etc.] Had all the parts needed; did not have to run out for different parts. Would have Andrew back in an instant. Good worker. Thanks Midgley's.

Andrew was supposed to arrive between 8-9:00am and came at 8:02 to do our annual gas fireplace service and check the remote. How reliable is that? He was totally communicative and pleasant, didn't waste time doing the job, was very thorough. Cleaned fireplace completely, changed needed batteries, and showed us again how to operate controls. Would be quite happy to welcome him again.

Midgleys installed our large wood insert in June 2019 and have been cleaning it once a year ever since. We enjoy burning almost everyday during the colder Fall, Winter and Spring months, and John and Austin are our expert Chimney Sweeps! They are professional, friendly, and efficient; we wouldn't have anyone else touch it!

We knew Midgley's reputation, so when our open, wood-burning fireplace started filling the room with smoke, we called them. Front office was crisp and responsive, we got an appointment and Austin showed up on time, with deep knowledge of fireplaces and chimneys. He analyzed our problems, offered solutions and we were very pleased.

Be patient…if you can…with Ferren, the service manager. It was difficult talking to him. Finally, Ferren did send Austin, the technician, to see what our problem was. Austin is F A N T A S T I C. VERY polite, understanding, patient and professional. He knows his stuff! Austin quickly located the problem and sent for parts the same day. Excellent.

John and Austin were incredibly professional. They were polite and friendly and worked quickly to complete the job. They double-checked their work and left us with a functioning stove, not a drop of soot to clean-up. Thanks, John and Austin.

John is perfect! He is so tidy and delightfully friendly and gives me important tips about specific products to use for maintaining my fireplace which I truly love and spend much time in front of. It's an education every time he comes and he deserves all the accolades I can give him!

Initially, Midgleys was not on our radar for the gas piping installation. We stopped by their showroom and met with Jim Holt when we were inquiring about gas log sets. Jim ask about the scope of our project and was interested in providing a bid for the piping work, a tankless water heater as well as installing the log sets. Jim arrived at the scheduled time and in short order submitted what turned out to be the lowest of three bids for that part of the project. Their bid was broken down so that we could have had them do only the log sets, or just the piping and water heater or both. Scheduling was critical for us as we would be without hot water after the initial tear out until the new water heater was turned on. We worked with Deanne on scheduling and she was extremely helpful in minimizing that impact as we had to coordinate with Northwest Natural Gas and other contractors as well. Midgleys crew arrived for the initial work on time and accomplished everything needed for the rough piping inspection to occur the next day. Midgley's crew was back as scheduled to finish the install as scheduled. We were extremely particular as to how certain parts of the work would be completed, which Jim was informed about up front, and the crew worked with us in all respects to meet our expectations. Their crew was extremely courteous in working with us doing our own plumbing connections to the water heater. (Midgleys does not do water plumbing!) The water heater connections we easy though and the crew was willing to stand by to make sure everything fired up as planned so that we had hot water when they left that second day. We have personally inspected their under floor and attic work as well as visually inspection the roof where the vent penetration was installed and all was done in a professional and workman like manner. We couldn't be happier with Midgleys work or the results.

Our chimney was leaking water in the house, in the winter. Midgley's came and wrapped it all up with a kind of plastic wrap till it could be repaired in dry weather. They did the repair in June. We went with Midgley's because of their good reputation in Eugene. We called a lot of places but this was the only one that had a solution to the leaking problem immediately, and it really worked, stopped the water coming in right away. In the summer, they did the repair which took about a day and did not disturb us at all. Great cleanup.

They wrapped chimney in plastic in winter till spring when it could be fixed. We were dry all winter and it was taken care of, as planned. Price was reasonable.

Midgley's Stove and Fireplace Center did an excellent job in all phases of the project of installing a new gas fireplace insert in my newly designed and remodeled wall in which an old fireplace existed. I chose Midgley's based on prior experience with this company. Many years ago they did the weatherization of my entire home. Ten years ago they provided an excellent gas fireplace insert for a second home I was having constructed in Idaho. I purchased that fireplace from Midgley's and my builder in Idaho installed it. Because I am so pleased with that Idaho, Valor fireplace, which is the primary heat source for that home, I determined to have the same brand installed in my latest project, just completed. All of the Midgley's employees I dealt with were very courteous and helpful to the best of their ability. I did have one disappointment at the very beginning of the project, when I first contacted Midgley's to begin the project. From my prior experience with Midgley's when they weatherized my home, I was under the impression that they would act as contractor for this latest fireplace project. On my first visit to their store, I asked whether that would be the case, although I may not have used the word "contractor." The answer I was given led me to believe that Midgley's would act as contractor, making all of the arrangements with other companies who would be doing the rock work and cabinet work if needed. As the project began, after signing the contract with Midgley's, it soon became apparent that they would not be acting as contractor and that I would have to make arrangements with other craftsmen and materials suppliers that would be involved in the project. This fact required a lot of coordination of other tasks related to the installation of the gas insert. It also resulted in the project taking much longer than I had expected. I take at least partial blame for this misunderstanding, but it seems that it could have been prevented on my initial contact with Midgley's, had their sales person understood my preliminary questions. In spite of this misunderstanding, I was very pleased with the work done by Midgley's. I'm very pleased with the Valor insert we are now enjoying in our home.

They were punctual for scheduled appointments. The estimate was clear and reliable. The installation was done very professionally. Our disappointment was with the time frame given for installation. They did not keep to the initial estimate of time to installation from ordering. There was an additional delay due to the Christmas holidays which was not their responsibility as we were out of town. However, it was difficult for us to get back on an installation schedule following the holidays. The final installation was also delayed due to weather conditions which was also not within their control. Were it not for the scheduling delays we would have rated Midgley's as excellent overall.

Extremely disappointed to find two cigarette butts on my driveway. Perhaps the employee should carry an ashtray in the company truck.

Went to Midgley's yesterday to get a price quote on a gas fireplace. Sales experience was very negative. My wife and I had to ask the salesperson all the questions. Would not offer specifics on costs. Instead of educating us on the entire process we had to think of every possible issue. Clearly they were interested in our business. Won't go back there.

It was reasonable to us. I called them in a rush, not having remembered to do that. They were very obliging and got somebody out there in record time to put the stove type in when it needed to be put in even though I didn't get them booked in a timely manner. I was very pleased that they were able to do that. They have been great so far. For us it was a good price.

Very good service. I also asked for the unit to be cleaned as it had been 6 months since last cleaning. He said the unit was fine and didn't need to be cleaned and did not feel right charging me for an unnecessary service. I found the honesty refreshing and would not hesitate to use them or recommend them in the future.

Jack came by within the 2 hour window scheduled. He was completely professional, warm and courteous. He was considerate about asking how much I wanted to know, then kindly talked me through the troubleshooting and repair. He taught me things I didn't know about this fireplace insert - which I didn't know because it came with the house and without a manual. His testing was thorough and he found the problem! (broken pilot / on / off knob) but cleaned the wired connections, the pilot, and the window while he was there! I was left with a very good feeling about Midgleys based on my experience with Jack and would definitely do business with them again.

Sales, installation was all professional and satisfactory. Jim was knowledgeable and helpful at every turn. Customer service regarding issues after Midgley's had been paid, was one of the rudest and most unpleasant experiences of any contractor I've ever worked with. Followup after having received my money is an important issue for any contractors' reputation. It's not just important but vital to their continued success. I give Midgley's and epic and quot;FAILand quot;. in this regard. A call to their office to have a simple question answered after completion of their work was one of the rudest experiences I've ever encountered. The gentleman's response was not just rude but actually hostile. He shouldn't be dealing with the public: not even to answer the telephone. Not only do I heartily NOT recommend Midgley's, I will do no further business with them again and will resoundingly make it known to any remodelers or homeowners who might think they would need their services.

Later I called and talked to the owner. Mind you I have dry wood now, it is a little better but I have to hang a sheet in the door way just to keep the living room warm. I requested the free cleaning, the owner said you had an extra service call so that was $150.00. So we won't honour the free cleaning.After a few words she said al-right then you will pay 1/2. Somehow the subject came up that they carried used stoves. Why wasn't I told that, she knew I was not rich. I would have been so happy to get a used stove. I could never recommend Midgleys, ever. I am still paying for the loan I took out to pay for a stove that is not good for me. I still need my chimney cleaned which I cannot afford.

We had a condenser that we had taken out, so we just had it inspected and it turned into a wood burning fireplace in case we ever needed. A guy named Dan came out. He was very nice and did a good job. I think they were expensive for what they did. He was very knowledgeable, but it was just that the job was fairly expensive. We would have to call him back because he glued a little piece that the ash wouldn't go down into the basement and that little piece came out. There are really not too many people in town. Mostly everybody uses Midgleys I think, unless there are small contractors that I didn't know about, but we were afraid to use a small contractor.

Midgleys Stove and Fireplace Center is good. It's all straight As. I would recommend them. They're the best in town.
