We finally settled on about 10 different colors and he quoted us a tentative figure. Later that evening, we received an emailed bid detailing exactly what he was going to be doing, what colors he was putting on which walls, and so on, and then worked with me to make a few small adjustments to bring it into my price range. This was on a Saturday.
The following Monday, the painting began. I went to the house and checked in on Tuesday and Ray had stepped out but one of his helpers was busily cutting in around the trim. There were dropcloths throughout the house and after they were finished, there had been no paint dripped or tracked onto the floor.
By Thursday, he called me to let me know they were essentially finished - he'd originally quoted that it would take him at least 6 or 7 business days, but the vast majority was done in four. He said he called in a little extra help because he knew we were anxious to move in. He texted me later that day and asked if he could keep the key until Monday because he wasn't happy with how one of the walls had turned out and wanted to put another coat on it, and this was no problem for us. He didn't charge us any additional money for this.
Over the weekend, I spent some time in the house and noticed a few areas that had been missed or poorly painted. Ray met with me at the house a few days later and even spotted a few problems that *I* had missed, and he stayed himself and took care of them. I offered to pay him for his labor, but he said we were square. We are absolutely thrilled with the results now that the work is completely finished. All of our walls have rounded corners, and he actually managed to make transitions between , like, brown to yellow or blue to yellow look very clean and precise even on rounded corners. The work was well done and Ray is a true professional. I would recommend him again anytime - the errors that I saw I think were due to his helpers, which he brought in specifically to try to get finished faster, and he quickly and cleanly addressed all of my concerns.
He cleaned up the area in the garage where his work supplies had been and left the cans of leftover paint boxed and stacked neatly against the wall, each one carefully labeled with the areas they correspond to. He brought his dog, a very friendly black lab (?) to the jobsite, on one occasion, but the dog was very well-behaved and stayed out in the open garage or on the driveway just watching people and cars go by. There was no barking or anything of that nature. I'm not normally a dog person, but in this case I didn't mind because 1) The dog never entered the house and 2) The dog was very obviously well-trained and friendly.
Ray is a very laid-back guy, but does fantastic work even with interior areas that are difficult to paint. He never charged me more than his additional quote even when he came out to work on the handful of things that I pointed out. He's courteous, pleasant, professional, and genuine. I not only LOVE Ray's work in my home, but I also quite like Ray! He's always nice and responds quickly via text message (that was what we did the majority of the time, by my request).
Everyone who has been to our home since the painting was completed has commented on what a great paint job he'd done! The lines are so clean and everything looks fantastic, we are beyond thrilled with the results. We've actually already referred him to other people!
