Huey & Sons Roofing

Huey & Sons Roofing was very good. We got a senior discount. We realized that this is a very established company and they have a good reputation so I was glad to use that company. It looks good. There are a number of neighbors who are interested in using that company too. My interaction with them was very good.

One of the owners (I presume), Chris Huey, got out the day after I called for the estimate. He was very helpful and professional. He provided me with an estimate on the spot. He noted that the roof needed 2 new vents to be up to present code. I really liked that he provided me with a list of homes that had the various colors and types of shingles installed. He also provided an address for the roofing supplier they used which has an outdoor display of shingles so that you can see them in natural light. I took over a board painted the color of my house to try with the different shingles. The office person Tammy was very personable and helpful with questions. They had the roof scheduled within a week. I left for the day and received a call a few hours later from Chris Huey. He left a message saying that he was at my house as the roof was stripped and expected that a small area of plywood would need be replaced but he didn't think it would be too major. He said I could go by (as I had told Tammy I would around noon) and talk to the supervisor on site, Miguel. I didn't rush right over since it didn't sound too bad and got there about 1230. By then the felt was on for the new roof. Miguel said the roof was very bad, had obviously leaked before the second layer was put on, and that they needed to replace 17 sheets of sheathing. Also the sheathing on the roof was only 3/8 and they always use 1/2. I would have preferred that they call me when they discovered all this so I could have gotten over there sooner and seen it for myself, also climbed up and looked to see if there was apparent water damage to rafters or walls. Miguel assured me that the rafters were fine and I wouldn't expect him to know about the walls since he was just there for the roof. I got a call in the late afternoon from Tammy, wanting to talk to me since there was so much extra work done and she didn't want to send out the bill without talking to me. I don't suspect them of doing unnecessary work or anything like that but the communication during the day could have been better. The roof looks excellent. The thicker sheathing and the new architectural shingles did wonders in hiding any unevenness in the roof and the color of the shingles is perfect for the house. The cleanup was done very well. There was damage to a few plants but my yard is very lushly planted and that was to be expected. I found no nails in the yard.

Very professional, cleaned up after job. Would recommend to anyone needing a new roof.

Did all the work in one day. They were on time, did great work, and the price included a new sky light. Cleaned up everything and hauled all the old shingles away. Highly recommend them.

I had four bids for the same work. Huey and Sons were the second lowest. They gave a bid with various options and discussed the pros/cons of each with me - (1) Extending the current ridge vent, (2) Adding more vents, (3) Adding metal flashing along the gutters, (4) Installing Ice and Water Shield instead of standard 15 lb felt on some of the roof for stability. Their standard is to recommend Ice and Water Shield on houses that are older than 50 years with shiplap decking instead of plywood. It cost $490 extra, which I really didn't want to pay. One of the owners (Chris Huey) was on site as the workers started removing the old roofing material. He had them remove the part with the old shiplap decking first. He looked at the status of the decking and said it was in good shape and really didn't need the Ice and Water Shield. Instead, they would not remove the old felt (which was in good condition) and add a layer of new felt over it. He indicated that they normally see 7" decking which gets cupped after a long time. Mine was 5" and was not cupped. We are not only redoing the roofing this year. We are having new gutters put on and getting the house painted. Chris worked with me to answer all my questions (which I had a lot) and schedule the install at a convenient time for me. He explained what order I should do things in and why - like not taking off the gutters until after the roofing was done. That way, debris would gather in the gutters rather than all over the ground - making cleanup easier and safer. It was originally scheduled for 5/15/13 and the crew showed up that day. It was forecast to rain later that evening. However, in the 30 minutes before the workers showed up, the forecast changed for rain at 2:00 p.m. instead of 8:00 p.m. They hoped to get my roof done in one day, but thought it might flow over to part of a second day. I asked the workers if they had enough tarp to cover my whole roof if they got the old all torn off and it started to rain hard. They didn't so they called Chris' brother (the other owner who handled installation decision that week). I talked with him and we decided to postpone the work due to the change in forecast and my hesitancy of proceeding. They came out a week later, on a nice day, and got all the work done in one day. A crew of six showed up at 7:30, when I was told they would be there. They went right to work and finished the job at 5:00. They were thorough in their work and in their clean up. With grandchildren at our house regularly, we were concerned about nails being left in the grass, sidewalk and driveway. Their cleanup of the area was fantastic - including the gutters. My gutters are the cleanest they've been in years. I decided to add a skylight in the kitchen area before the roofing was done - not part of the original quote. I put in a tubular sky and they put the flashing down and sealed it at no extra charge. I also has part of my chimney flashing that should be embedded between bricks loose. They put that back in and redid the flashing all around the chimney, also at no extra charge. There were several neighbors that watched the process and were very impressed with the job done, the hard/continuous/thorough work by the crew, the cleanup and the great looking roof I have. One has actually indicated as a result of what the work on my house they are going with Huey and Sons next year when they need to have their roof done. I would strongly recommend Huey & Sons.

We had called 2 other Roofing companies and they couldn't do the work for 2-6 months which was not acceptable. We had a couple areas that were leaking and needed immediate attention. Chris and his team were here within 3 weeks from the original call. They were prompt, respectful and hard workers.

They were timely, very organized, very efficient and left my home nicer than when they came.

Huey and Sons were the lowest price of the 4 bids I received and came with the best list of positive reviews. They were able to work within my time tight frame and the crew was punctual and professional. The work was done very quickly and they did a great job of clean up. While writing reviews I typically look for an opportunity to provide constructive feedback, but I can't think of anything I can be critical of. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Huey and Sons again.

They showed up at 7:30 am exactly as they said they would. The crew worked one full day, then one guy came and fijnished the rest the next morning. They did an excellent job. They found quite a bit of dry rot, more than we thought there was. There was quite a bit of extra work on that. I was very scared to open the bill when it came. When I did open it I was pleasantly surprised. It was only about $355 more than the original bid. The $100 angie's list coupon made it even better. We would recomend Heuy and Sons roofing to everyone we know. One of the ladies in the office also really helped me in making my original choices and decisions after we got the bid. Sadly I did not write down her name. We are very pleased with everything. Our new roof is beautiful!! Thank You Heuy and Sons!!!!!

From beginning to end the job was done great. They came when they said, scheduled according to my needs, completed the job on time and on budget. Very professional and no mess when they were done.

It went well from start to finish. Marty Huey came out promptly, and gave us a written estimate while here. After reviewing the estimates from three of the top rated companies, I spoke with Marty about a couple items not listed in his estimate. He explained why they did not list them, but offered to include them if I wished, and did (for not extra charge). He also gave me a choice of 1/2" plywood or 7/16" waferboard for sheathing. The plywod would cost more. After talking to several knowledgeable people, I chose the waferboard as the existing structure had 1 X 4 boards across the rafters for support. Huey also added ridgeline vents over an open beam ceiling room at no extra cost. There were only a few minor negatives: because the thinner asphalt replaced thick cedar shakes, there was a noticeable gap between the siding (replaced four years ago) and the roof. I would have appreciated being forewarned and perhaps advised what others had done to keep the flashing from being so noticeable. Another minor negative was having to pick up some materials on the ground and in the gutters. The workers got 99% of it duriing their cleanup, but 100% would have nice. Lastly, there was one sloppy flashing installation and a TV cable that was previously under the shakes, was just laid across the roof, rather than being secured.

Chris arrives early on the day work begins, as the crew is getting set-up. It's a final briefing and walk throught of work to be done. A key element is to make sure that conversations for work that you have with Chris also gets to his crew boss. Chris did that but its always good to ask about out of the norm types of work to be done. There was only 1 area that I would rate less than perfect and that was clean-up. It got a little breezy at a point in the day so some stray paper/plastic got blown farther out and missed. The bigger concern were the sharps - large staples and nails. It wasn't bad, it just didn't fit the high quality job the crew had done on the roofing. One last thought, the pump house. The last time the roof was done, it was an OK job but looking at it you could tell the installers didn't consider it important. Chris's crew did the same high quality installation on the pump house as they did on the main house - kudos!

Chris was right on time, very friendly, and professional.His estimate was higher than the others, but I think the quality of work is worth it. His crew can finish the job in one day, as 2 for the other companies I had come in and estimate. I recommend giving them a call for any roofing job.

They did a terrific job. Arrived with a full crew at 7:30 am and worked till the job was completed (by 6:30 pm same day). They were meticulous about clean-up, which we much appreciated. I would definitely use this company again. We forgot to use the Angies list coupon, oh well.

They were professional and did a good job. They gave us the quote, and when we went to their site to pay they were professional in the office as well. We believe they did a good job, especially given that they had to work around the original roof which was poorly done.

Everything went as planned and as described. Shingles delivery took place the day before. On the day of roofing, the crew arrived at 7:30 and completed the job by 4:00. They cleaned up the area and left it in excellent condition.

They arrived promptly when I requested an estimate, and explained my options very clearly. I called with several questions while I was making my decision, and they were always helpful and pleasant. After I accepted their proposal, they installed the new roof as soon as the weather permitted, and they left the yard completely clean. I was very happy with the whole experience, and would not hesitate to recommend them.

They gave me the options of a 23 tab shingle, a 30 year 3 tap shingle, a 30 year laminate shingle and a top 30 year laminate shingle. The money difference between the bottom and top option is $400. I will probably go with the top line. They gave me the quote the same day they came out. They were excellent, within a half hour I had the bid in a nice format. It was pre-printed and then he filled in the details. They were very responsive. I am leaning toward using them because I was so impressed with them. They were so responsive and they can do the job right away.

The whole experience was a good one - non-intrusive, professional, expedient. They brought the materials one day and two days later (after the rain), they came in the morning and finished the entire job before evening. When they learned the shingles we had ordered were not in stock, they upgraded ours from 30 to 40-year shingles at no cost to us. There was no debris left in the driveway or around the house. But for the beautiful roof, there was no indication that they had even been here. We would absolutely use them again and have no hesitation recommending them to others.

At Thanksgiving we discovered that the roof was in worse shape than we thought and needed to be replaced immediately. Huey & Sons gave us an estimate, we accepted it and they scheduled us very quickly. The job was done by mid-December. The work was performed on the day promised, within the time promised, and they cleaned up after themselves. All this was done during the coldest week in recent history. Every time we spoke to anyone with the company, they were helpful, informative and professional. We are very satisfied with the work they did and would gladly recommend them.

These people were quick to act on my original call, and provided promptly the necessary paper work. They did the work in one day with a short break in the weather. The occupant had been at work, and on arriving home to such a neat yard and driveway, asked whether they had been there at all, then saw the new roof.

They arrived at 7:45 am and had the complete job completed, including all clean-up by 2:45 pm the same day. Excellent quality and performace.

Our roof would not make it one more year, so we started looking into many different companies, Huey and Son's was extremely responsive and always very helpful. We researched the BBB, CCB licence, Angie's list, etc. and they had no complaints and great ratings. They knew I was eager to get the job done, and when they had a cancellation they called me and was able to start the next day on the house. The job took them 1.5 days to complete over 2400 sq ft home, garage, and gazebo and they did an awesome job. The place was so clean you wouldn't know we just had the work done! We are very pleased with the work and the crew who performed the work. They did an awesome job.

The scheduling and work was done amazing quickly. Roofing is always messy, but they did a good job of cleaning up.
