Response from Huckleberry Fence & Deck Co
This is Bradley Cook here to respond to this report: Contracted to install 141' of fence : Yes, but when we did the walk through 2 days before the job began, client wanted the new fence moved closer to the tree line. I told him we can remeasure at the end of the job since all my fence prices are by the foot. We found the client often difficult to get a hold of, repeatedly trying to start the job and him not getting back to us. He apparently has business's in Hawaii. Was hesitant on giving us a downpayment for materials which we collect 2 days before digging is to begin. I've been burned in my early days of business and I don't budge on this. Unsigned Contract: When our bids go out, 2 copys of the contract is sent out with one highlighted for signature, date and initial 10% deposit amount. Contingencies vague : Contingencies on contract are explained as followed: $45 extra per hour for jackhammering postholes or excessive root removal.(you be the judge) No Guarantee : Is an out right lie. I explain to my customers that if warping of the post is to occur, it usually happens in the first year and we replace it for free. If a board bows, the same applies. I had a customer with a abused gate latch that was 6 years old ask me for a replacement late last year and I replaced it for free. Foremans attention: This is where I do agree with the client. Our foreman at the time handled this job very unprofessional of Huckleberry standards and paid for this with his employment with our company. I set the bar too high for this malarkey to occur. Closing: We do 200-300 jobs per year and unfortunately, for whatever reason, about a half dozen seem to be difficult. You know the person, you think to yourself, I'd hate to work for him or her or do work for him or her and this was the case here. A collision of a foreman doing a very unprofessional representation of my company, our policy and procedures, and most importantly our reputation for craftsmanship. As for the client, I would never work for this person again. Most of his allegations border on slander.
