We were so impressed with Home Comfort! We had a lot of questions when doing our research and Aaron and Chris showed exceptional patience, coming out to our house twice to go over the different product options available to us and describe the installation process. We chose Home Comfort over the other 4 contractors we interviewed because we liked their professionalism, their ratings on Angie's List, and their O% financing option. The installation went like clockwork. Just as had been described to us, first the electricians came, who were so friendly and efficient. Then came the installation crew who worked steadily through the day, pausing to give me updates along the way. Both the furnace and air conditioning unit were installed carefully, with great attention to detail. We appreciated that they covered our floors and cleaned up thoroughly when they were done. They also fixed the insulation in our attic that had fallen down, before running the coolant lines through. Last came Johnny who fired up the system and made sure both the furnace and air conditioner were communicating properly with our new thermostat. The office staff then contacted me to schedule an appointment with the city inspector, who came out the next day and signed off on everything. They did a fabulous job with the bidding process, installation, and following through to make sure the city inspection happened in a timely fashion. We wish we had noted all of the names of the people who were involved in this job to thank them personally here. We highly recommend Home Comfort!

The assessment of my problem was insufficient, the work done to repair the ducts incomplete. Sales department is interested in selling, their ability to correctly diagnose a problem is doubtful.
Description of Work: My bedroom was insufficiently cooling in the summer, so I asked for help. The sales representative was very eager to sell me a ductless heat pump, though I have a fairly new conventional heat pump, installed by Home Comfort 6 years ago. After some prodding (from me), they sent a crew out to inspect my ducts. Indeed, the crew found some leaks, but missed another. The crew suggested more insulation to fix the problem. The sales rep came back, inspected the attic, and suggested blow-in insulation. That was correct, but other opportunities for improving the insulation were missed: Air-sealing the attic, covering can lights, and improving the skylight insulation.

They gave me a good price and did exactly what they said they'd do. They upgraded me to a better piece of equipment at prices it would take to repair the old one. They really treated me well with the price and every other way. I would definitely use them again and I give them top marks.

The entire team at Home Comfort was amazing! From Aaron in Sales, Amber at the office, to Joey on the job - they were all completely professional, did what they said they would do, and completely communicative! Joey was at the house the whole time and was a complete pleasure to work with. Always concerned with doing the neatest, most quality, professional work possible. He always had a smile and was always open to questions and requests. This was the best experience I've ever had with an installation of anything in my home. I would DEFINITELY recommend them.

Their price is like everybody else, it is okay. They were okay. I had an old air conditioner system, and it needed repairs once a year, and they would come out every once in a while, and it would work for a year and stop again, because it was old and needed to be replaced. They were doing as good as they could do with what I had.

The whole process was completed very efficiently and professionally. I highly recommend Home Comfort Heating as an HVAC contractor and maintenance firm. My first contact with HCH was by email, which was answered promptly--within a couple of hours. An appointment was set to evaluate the job and prepare an estimate. That appointment was kept very precisely by Jake McCall. An estimate of the cost to do the installation was provided promptly. The estimated cost was met precisely. Compared to another estimate by another contractor for the same job, the price quoted by HCH was much less. An estimated installation date of approximately 2 weeks after the date of the estimate was made and met. With winter approaching we were anxious for installation as soon as possible. We were told that nearly all, if not all of the work would be completed in one day. On Nov. 22, 2013, the HCF crew arrived promptly at the agreed upon time and began work installing the system. All members of the crew were very courteous and knowledgeable of the tasks to be accomplished. They took time to answer all questions that we posed as the work progressed. Further, they were very careful to protect every part of our home and yard during the accomplishment of their work. Late that afternoon, the installation was ready for final inspection and turn-on. That task was to be completed by Aaron, their quality control technician. As it happened, he was involved on the final inspection of another job and unable to come to our house immediately upon completion of the installation work. Complications on that other job delayed him until early evening when he called saying that he would be able to arrive at our house around 7PM. Since we had no urgent need to have the system turned on that evening, I told him to wait, get some rest and finish our job later. After insisting that he could still come to our job to finish it, he finally relented and took my suggestion to delay his arrival until later. Aaron arrived the next day, did the final inspection and turned on our new heating/cooling unit. The city inspector arrived a couple of days later and confirmed that everything was done properly and according to code. We are very satisfied with the performance of the new HVAC system. I have had a number of experiences with contractors related to housing that have been nightmares. This job was the extreme opposite. Everything was done professionally, on time, and every courtesy extended to us in the process.

Service was good. Explained exactly what was wrong and what items were "must do" or "would be nice." Agreed that doing a full leak check was not necessary at the time, topped up the freon and suggested that I have the level re-checked later this year.

Home Comfort came to my home to bid on installing a Rinnai Tankless hot water heater, Natural Gas Fireplace insert, and natural gas piping installed to support these appliances. The representative was courteous and helpful. He said he would get me a printed bid in about a week which he did. Since we had gotten multiple bids from other vendors, I wanted to see if perhaps Home Comfort was flexible on their pricing. After some back and forth, it was apparent they were not, which was fine. Although their bid was not the lowest, we had done business with them in the past (they had done the maintenance on our heat pump for years) and their price was acceptable. I e-mailed the Plumbing Supervisor to let him know that I accepted their offer to do the work. The only thing that I asked was that they update the contract sheet to: 1) Show the correct model of the Rinnai Tankless hot water heater that they were to install (the wrong model was listed on the contract) and 2) to list separately the price of the Rinnai unit, the installation cost for the Rinnai unit and the installation cost of the Natural Gas Fireplace insert. This was necessary so that I could receive the Energy Trust of Oregon rebate for the Natural Gas Fireplace insert and so that I could claim the Oregon Tax Credit for the Rinnai Hot water heater. On 9/1/2012, I accepted Home Comfort's Offer via e-mail dated 8/31/2012. On 9/10/2012, Home Comfort e-mails me the following: "We are currently 5-6 weeks out from being able to do your job. We have recently took on a large project that has all of our time wrapped up. It may be in your best interest to contact the other company." To which I responded via e-mail on 9/10/2012: "I don't have a problem that you're booked out 5-6 weeks, in fact that will actually work better for us now. My main concern is once you can schedule the job, I get a Date Certain Start date and a Date Certain completion date so I can rely that the project will be completed within a given time range. And for scheduling purposes, and given that you're 5-6 weeks scheduled out, I definitely need a date when you can start, so I can contact Northwest Natural who said it would take 5-10 business days for them to bring natural gas to the house and install the gas meter. This will allow me time the installation of the gas two weeks prior to your start date to make sure gas service is at the house. So please look at your scheduling calendar so we can talk about some dates 5-8 weeks or so into the future, so we can get this done. I'm hopeful that a 5-8 week lead time will work for you as to scheduling this project. I'm a flexible and reasonable person, so I don't see any reason why we can't do business together. So let's talk, work up a revised contract, get some install dates and finalize any details so we can complete this project." After hearing nothing from Home Comfort for eight days in response to my e-mail to them I e-mail them again on 9/18/2012 to ask for a status update. On 9/25/2012, I received the following e-mail from Home Comfort: "We are going to pass on this project." On 9/25/2012 and 10/1/2012, I sent e-mails to the Plumbing Supervisor and the owner of Home Comfort asking to speak to them about their decision and rationale for pulling out of the deal. I never received a response from them. I filed a Better Business Bureau Complaint against them. All they could do is deny we had a contract and indicated they had no interest in trying to come to some sort of a compromise to resolve this issue. While it is likely Home Comfort would likely dispute the facts as I have presented them, though I have the e-mails to prove what I have stated here, Home Comfort cannot justify why they would not call me back to discuss their decision to decline my business, even though we DID have a contract for work to be done. Their conduct is reprehensible and unprofessional in every sense of those words. Base on my experience I would hope anyone thinking of doing business with Home Comfort would think twice before doing so.

Technician was rude, arrogant, totally unfamiliar with the heating equipment even though his company is the only company that has worked on the system in the past 30 years and recommended and sold me the present unit which was installed only 1 1/2 years ago. He spent hours (witnessed by me) and was obviously totally at a loss as what to do or churning. A new unit was provided under warrenty but the heating was still not functioning and the technician refused to look at the thermostat and rudely left after saying he knew it was working OK. After a call to the company and requesting to speak to the manager, a higher up (or knowledgable technician) came out and fixed the unit within a short period of time. Total cost to me to fix a 2 yr old system--$350

This company did the work quickly, but overcharged. To begin with, the furnace was overpriced (I had four furnaces installed in my various rentals this year, so I am familiar with prices). The bid also did not include a carbon monoxide detector which, as of this year, is required by Oregon law--something an HVAC company should be aware of. Long after I paid for the installation, along comes another bill: a service charge for the guy who came out to check on the dead furnace. They tacked on an additional $60 dollars to this bill because my rental, located in Junction City, was "outside their service area." The company's offices are in North Eugene, making the trip to Junction City a total of 13.5 miles, which is a shorter distance than a trip to my parents' house in Springfield (16 miles), which is inside their so-called service area. (By the way, the distances came from mapquest.com) I called to discuss the particulars of the bill, and got a very cold reception. My impression was that they weren't going to budge because I live far away from this rental (I live in the Portland area). In other words, they perceive there is no consequence for this behavior. Thanks to my new subscription on Angie's List, They. Are. Wrong! I won't do business again with this firm and hope to persuade you to do likewise. If you decide to do business with them, be sure to get all costs up front and in writing.
