We were on a waiting list for a new roof when the old roof failed and started leaking. Ehler’s sent 3 guys out to put plastic sheeting over the whole portion of the roof that was leaking. The crew was friendly, professional, and thorough. We were also pleased with the price.

It didn't go well. I was told upon my initial call that they were busy, but I would recieve a call back. I understood they were busy. My initial call was the middle of July. And here we are in the middle of October without any call back. This appears to be another company that doesn't seem to care about any future new clients. I was really disappointed with Ehlers as they are a well known company. In addition it being a referral.

I thought the faucet and/or pipes had frozen in the bad weather so called Ehlers to check. They came out and said it was not the faucet, but perhaps a roof problem. There was no charge for this "emergency" visit. A couple of months later I woke up one morning to see water pouring out of the bottom of my siding onto the front porch. I again called Ehlers and they were there within hours. Based upon their previous visit, they did a bit more investigation and discovered that roof staples and nails had actually become detached from the roof itself, which lead to the roof leaking. They did a temporary fix (nailing down the staples and roofing nails and covering the area with mastic) as I told them I would decide if I needed to repair just that one section or if I needed a whole roof.
Description of Work: My front door threshold had swollen to the point that the door was scraping on the vinyl and down into the subfloor. I needed to find out the cause of the problem and then to fix it.

These guys are great! The 3 young men who did the work (2 for demo of the old glass solarium roof and 1 for the finish work) all showed up on time and quietly went about their work. They completed the demo of the old roof and construction of the new roof in 2 days and then Austin came in the 3 days following day to do the mudding, priming and interior and exterior painting. Austin even repainted about 80% of my interior dining room so that the new paint would match the existing paint, which was way above and beyond what I expected! Although the bid was a bit higher than I would have expected, the job went smoothly and the results look great. You get what you pay for, I guess. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: Removed an old "solarium" style roof from one end of my dining room and replaced it with a standard roof, including installing insulation, drywall, mudding, primer and interior and exterior paint.

They did a great job. Our project manager, Jason Martin, was a patient, calming presence throughout and kept the project on track. He was very helpful explaining the process to us and at negotiating with the insurance company when it only wanted to paint partial walls or skimp on details. He kept the fire lit under a different contractor for the flooring when they lagged. The crew was friendly, skilled, and, most importantly, professional. It says something when the crew speaks well of their employer when the boss isn't around. They handled our content with care, they did a thorough job, including cleaning up the mess and keeping things neat. All furniture and belongings were put back exactly how they had been pre-flood, plus they were dusted! Jason went the extra mile by rebuilding a bathroom cabinet so it would match the woodwork in the rest of the area instead of replacing it with an unmatched one, which the insurance company wanted. (Not to cast insurance companies in bad light, just that the and quot;rulesand quot; of what insurance covers are nit-picky and not necessarily in the homeowner's favour.) Accidents do happen, and when a couch got a small tear, Jason came to us immediately and offered us the choice of having it (and the matching chair!) recovered or replaced. No coverups or haggling about value. Jason did several walk-throughs with us to ensure everything was done right. Not just a stand-at-the-door inspection, but test all the cabinet doors, knock on walls, down on hands and knees to put an extra screw in a squeaky floor board kind of inspection. He also willingly answered tons of questions about the work and repairs and processes. We were a little sad in a way when the project was done because it was so nice working with them. We would unreservedly work with them again.

The job was hassle free!!! They showed up on time and ready to work. The job was done to my total satisfaction. They communicated extremely well at every step. They were polite and courteous to my renter. They gave me a time frame and finished earlier then expected. Great company!
Description of Work: I had a dishwasher leak and flooded a rental home. With the renter still living there, Ehlers removed the flooring in two rooms and the entry, dry everything out, replace substructure where needed, oversee the laying of new flooring, moving all the renters furniture out to a storage unit they brought, installing a new dishwasher, repainting the woodwork etc. etc.

Contacted the company to rent an air purifier (Live in an old farm house and the air was thick with dust). The person who answered my call was very pleasant and helpful. I was quoted a price of $70 dollars per day, and they arranged to have a unit delivered right away for a two day rental. They were very responsive and delivered the machine as promised. The machine worked well and by the end of the first 24 hour period, most of the dust was out of the air. They called the second day to check in and to let me know that they would be picking up the machine the following day and made it clear that they would not be charging extra. They called in advance to let me know that they were on their way, and picked up the machine on time. The only surprise came when I opened the bill. While the rental fee on the machine was $70 per day as quoted, there was also a $65 dollar delivery and pick up fee, and on top of that a 15% and quot;profit and overheadand quot; fee. Rather than the $140 I expected, the total bill was $235.75. I don't recall ever running into a and quot;profit and overheadand quot; charge before, and certainly expect any company to be open and straightforward about their pricing. So, despite giving them good grades on quality, responsiveness, punctuality and professionalism, I would not hire them again.

I called Ehlers in November, 2011, as I had water coming into my garage ceiling from an overhead outdoor patio. Ehlers's response was excellent. They came out immediately, assessed the problem, brought fans and dehumidifiers to dry the garage, and formulated a plan for repairing the leaking deck. They followed through wonderfully and reliably, arranging for the appropriate subcontractors to come in and complete the phases of the job. As it turned out, the roofing membrane had been compromised and the repairs were effected. Unfortunately, I was still getting moisture into the garage, and after several months and many visits, Ehlers determined that water was also entering the garage via the outdoor patio's parapet walls. It turned out that I had two very different problems going on: the membrane itself as well as the walls. I understand that this is exactly the type of problem that is difficult to diagnose. And I have not question that Ehlers proceeded appropriately during the initial phase of the project. But once it was determined that the roof repair had not fully resolved the water issue, I became increasingly uncertain about Ehlers's ability to assess the scope of work for the next phase of the project. I did not feel that they demonstrated the necessary curiosity to parse the problem. There were areas of rot and dampness that Ehlers shrugged off as unimportant, and it turns out that these areas were very large clues as to the nature and extent of the damage. I consulted with several other contractors and ultimately came to the conclusion that Ehlers's approach was not thorough enough to motivate me to contract with them for the further wall repairs. I was very pleased with their initial response, but I lost confidence in them once it became clear that there would be a and quot;Phase 2and quot; to my project. Additionally I will add that the repair estimates they provided for the further work (which included a separate project not related to the above leak) were extremely high. When I challenged the cost, I was told that they'd already lost money not just on my house but on similar neighboring properties. I could only conclude that Ehlers was and quot;paddingand quot; my estimate to make up losses on other projects. I was also unhappy that Ehlers was unwilling or unable to warrant one of their subcontractor's work and wanted me to sign a separate contract with that company for their specific work. If Ehlers was not in a position to warrant a certain aspect of the work, how could I feel confident with that work? One of the reasons for hiring a contractor is to umbrella the services, something this arrangement certainly would not allow me to do.

From start to finish the crew was clean cut and dressed in a professional manner. They kept the job clean at the end of each day and told us what we should expect the following day. They followed the schedule, as the repairs progressed throughout the job. We had a good feeling about the work being done at all times.

We felt safe with their handling of the situation, and our family heirlooms. They treated our property as if it were their own, and treated us with respect. I will reccomend them to anyone and would call them back to do any additional repairs that we may need in the future.

While I was vacationing, my neighbor who was watching my house called me to tell me that there was a leak in the upstairs hallway following a snowstorm. I called Ehler's from out of state and they were willing to go to my house and do damage control until I got home. They put big tarps on the roof and dehumidifiers inside the house and never asked for a deposit or credit card number to get started on the job. The damage to the inside of the house was extensive, requiring replacement of the ceiling in several rooms, painting, replacing carpet and electrical work. They were very prompt, responsive and worked well with the partnering contractors. They were willing to work around my schedule at times. The workers were all friendly and prompt and cleaned up after themselves. They worked within the limits of my insurance company's allotted budget, and suggested some things that I could do myself to save some money. I had two concerns about the quality of work. First, after the roof was replaced, it leaked again in the next rain. It was repaired and it leaked again. The third repair has been holding. The second concern was that after the hallway ceiling was repaired, a few months later it began to sag. It was repaired again and I wasn't happy that it was still sagging This may have had something to do with a heating system air return duct that was installed by another company. This is why I gave the company a B rating in quality of work. But in both cases (the roof and the hall ceiling), Ehler's was willing to come out right away to make it right. I wish both of these issues wouldn't have happened, but hey, we're all human and sometimes things need to be redone. The thing I was impressed with is that they were willling to work until it was done right. All other quality of workmanship was excellent, and especially the new ceilings that they put in in the living room and hallway. The hand texturing and painting were all very nicely done. Their drywall guy did an amazing job of patching several areas where I had wall thermostats removed. They put a hold on their work schedule for me while I did some painting, then picked up again after I was done. The painting they did was all quality work.

They are very friendly, but the quality of their work is poor. They replaced a sink and toilet with brand new appliances, but re-used old fittings, for example. These fittings might have cost 3-4 dollars to replace, but their style is to do things at the lowest cost possible, and to charge as much for it as possible. This worked in the 'old' frugal Eugene, but that was 20-40 years ago. Today, people want better quality workmanship. Ehlers is like a big family, for better and worse. They never fire people, but sometimes they should.
Description of Work: Ehlers did a few things for us in our kitchen and bathroom.
