The crew did a great job. There was one hiccup but overall they treated my items with care, worked quickly and professionally. Carey, Wyatt and Craig were particularly good and Ben and Joe did a good job but just need a little more focus. Ben did a great job getting all my items into one storage unit, saving me money in the future.

Quite well despite underestimating volume and time. Everyone was careful with our belongings. A suggestion would be, that when using office personnel, make sure they are trained in packing, and keeping good records of contents. Some boxes were not marked.

It was stressful. They notified me they would not be able to arrive at 8 am, due to truck issues. They would be there by 11. They showed up at 11:45. They had no tools to disassemble furniture. My daughter and I had to sleep on the floor, because it took them so long to pack my house, drive to the new town. Next day, they were supposed to arrive at 9. They did call, but didn't arrive until 11. Scratched: dryer, fridge, my bed. Dented/torn/broken: dented fridge and did something to motor as they almost dropped it getting up the 4 front stairs, foot board of my daughter's bed broken off, I called the owner to complain and ask for a price reduction. He said no, because they were hired to move me and they fulfilled that obligation.

Everything went smoothly and seamlessly. The team of movers were very friendly and professional. They even supplied wardrobe boxes for free. The guys had to reassemble a lot of furniture that the previous movers from Portland had taken apart. Some of the items were really complicated to put together but the guys were real pro's. It took less time to move than we expected, and for a reasonable price. Brandon, Jogah, Jeff, Reuben, and Alex were a great team. Be sure to ask for these guys! I highly recommend Cross Town.

Justin and Darin from Cross Town Movers did a great job moving my household goods. They were both professional, friendly, and patient. With all the things that could have gone wrong with this complicated move, nothing did! And with the 10,000 things that could have been broken among my many antiques and fine glassware, the one thing that was broken....I broke when I was unpacking it! They truly were a pleasure to work with, as all of the employees I have worked with from this company have been. Thank you Cross Town Movers, and especially thank you Justin and Darin for your kindness and professionalism.

My wife and I were nervous about moving simply because we hadn't moved in more than 25 years, but our experience with Cross Town Movers was excellent. Our two movers, Jarred and Dave, were extremely professional and very friendly. They did not just move furniture, they gave good advice while picking up our items as well as during the delivery to our new home, including good furniture placement ideas. They were fast, and conscientious, never careless. Everything arrived without incident, and without damage to any of our items. Jarred is very skilled at maneuvering the truck into tight places, and Dave ran over to help our neighbor lift a chair into her truck, above and beyond the call of duty. Great crew. Highly recommend.

From the first time I contacted Cross Town to the time we saw the truck pull away, this company performed amazingly well! Carrie came out to provide the estimate, walking through the home with my mother to note the things that were (and were not) going. In addition, we had a two-step process of moving: some items were going to the new residence, some items were going to a storage unit, and the remainder was staying in-place. Our family was extremely organized, I must say that. We had color-coded items and we had planned ahead what the rooms in the new residence were called. For example rocking chair in art room was destined for living room. Lots and lots and lots of planning. I will say this also: this was a very emotional move for this senior widow - 60+ years of "belongings and nearly 30 years in this one home. Cross Town was sensitive to all of this! The packers came and were extremely efficient. Next day they loaded the truck. Next day they delivered to the new residence. Very friendly, very efficient, and Daniel and Andrew were hard working guys who listened and were calm in the face of confusion!! As far as cost, because the family packed a lot of items ourselves (e.g., non-breakables, books, kitchen stuff) the final cost was approximately 40% lower than the bid! And they told us this upfront - pack yourself and save money. They noted that boxes are marked "packed by owner" because the insurance does not cover those. That's why we let them back the fragile stuff and, of course, the furniture. This company gets A+ from our family. Highly recommended.

The "B Team" (the team's nickname, as their names all started with "B" and NOT the quality of their work) showed up exactly when they were supposed to. They did a thorough walk through of our home and a run down of what they would be doing. They even provided boxes for some loose items that hadn't been packed so we could do that while they were loading. They were all extremely nice to me and my family (wife, 4 kids, dog, and cat). My kids kept saying they were awesome-so that must be good! They got us all moved in the time they estimated, with nothing scratched, dinged, or broken. Our dispatcher when we called initially was named Chris and he was great as well. We scheduled them less than a week before we moved and everything went amazing! I can't say enough great things about this company. Thanks to Crosstown my back is not sore and my things all got moved quickly and safely!

I hired this company to move my belongings, I was told they would work as many hours as I wanted them to although I told them I anticipated 4 or 5 hours work - they have a four hour minimum. The morning of the move they wanted to come early instead of between 1-3 and I was finally told "I will have two men at your place at 1:00" yet they arrived at 1:25. They then informed me they were only going to work three hours and were going to waive the minimum, but I repeatedly said I needed them to work 4 or 5 hours, but they said they could not. Then they loaded all my books and bookcases on the van AND AFTERWARDS showed me huge scratches that I believe happened during loading and wanted me to sign a particle board waiver. I said they needed to give me that option before they loaded them. The driver said, "They are already on the van, the hard part is done, just sign the form" so I did sign the form at that point and since they were already loaded. When I explained he should have told me first so that I could decide he got mad and went back outside. When I went outside 10 minutes later he was unloading all my belongings off the truck and stacking them in my driveway. I had no way to move these items and they were outside. I am a 60 year old female and these were boxes of books and 6 foot tall bookcases. He needed to at least put them back where he got them (from inside the house where they were safe) or unloaded them at the new house (it would have been the same amount of work, even less because the garage at the new house is closer). He stacked the 6' tall bookcases in the carport that is on an incline and used the boxes of books to hold them up. This was a nightmare and I had to move them by myself at 5:00 on Saturday evening after desperately trying to get other help. I am bruised, I am sore, I am not supposed to lift heavy items because I had two surgeries last year, I now have a seroma from lifting, and my bookcases now are all damaged. I also did not get the rest of my items moved as planned so I am a week late moving out at $70 per day I also want to add that when I originally booked the move I told them I needed an afternoon move and I waited two weeks for their first availability for an afternoon. Two days before they called and wanted to move it to 9:00 AM and when I said I was not available in the morning the manager got mad at me. At that time they confirmed they would arrive between 1-3 with a 30 minute notice. Then the day of the move they called at 10:45 and wanted to come at 12:00 and were again mad at me when I said I would not be ready until 1:00 (which we previously confirmed TWICE). Then he said they would be there at exactly 1:00, yet they were almost 30 minutes late.

Response from Cross Town Movers
Allow me to first say that Cross Town Movers has never moved anyone by the name of [removed member name]. This complaint, however is familiar to us, from someone using a different name. While most bad reviews can be viewed as learning experiences, I do not believe that in this case, we could have done anything differently that would have given us a positive outcome, short of turning down the job in the first place. It is our view that we operated in good faith, and provided good customer service at all steps of the process. Cross Town Movers made every attempt to be accommodating to the person in question. We had originally scheduled her as the second job of the day. When the previous job rescheduled, we asked her if we could come in the morning instead. She stated that she need an afternoon time anyway. When we told her that she would be the second job she insisted that she not be because she wanted the crew to be fresh. While we generally don’t impose unpaid down time on our crews who normally start at 8:45, we were trying to be accommodating and so agreed to a 12:00 start. On the day of the move, we called to confirm when the crew was in route but she said that she wouldn’t be ready at noon, further stating that the conversation making the noon arrangement never happened. When asked what time she would be ready she said 1:00 which we reluctantly agreed to. We had to call the crew to come back to the office and we had to pay them for the additional down time while waiting for her to get ready. We could have billed her for that time but elected to pay out of pocket instead to keep her happy. They tried to err on the side of caution when they did go back and therefore arrived slightly later than 1:00. She became confrontational with the crew from the start. As to the hours dispute, the crew elected to waive the four hour minimum (even though they had already incurred a good deal of unpaid time by that point) because they only saw three hours worth of work, not that they wouldn’t work for four or five hours if it proved necessary. She pointed out some bookcases that were important to her and the crew noticed a good deal of preexisting damage and home repairs. She stated that she purchased them at a yard sale for $200.00. We took photos of all this inside the house before we moved the items so there would be no dispute. They took great care not to let them come into contact with anything else to ensure that there was no further damage and because of their weakened condition. After we got one of the shelves to the truck, we noticed another scratch that hadn’t been visible due to how the piece had been sitting in the house. We documented this as well and pointed it out to her. She became very combative and verbally abusive to the crew. She was insistent that her items were to be loaded in a way that professionally, we thought would result in further damage. The driver asked her to sign a waiver that is standard for particle board items in case that did happen. Again this was met with personal insults and profanity. At this point, she placed our equipment out of the house and locked the door. The crew attempted to be allowed back in to finish the job but after a few minutes gave up and called the office to see what they should do. Our dispatcher felt that she was in essence cancelling the job and also did not think it was right to subject them to further verbal abuse. They were advised to unload the few items already on the truck and put them in the carport where they would be covered. We also wrapped the items in plastic bed bags to further protect them at no cost to her. At this point she did come out of the house and asked them to work for four or five more hours or to move the pieces back into the house. However, crew did not feel that it was appropriate to proceed. We did not charge her for any of the hours the crew was occupied. The dispatcher called the shipper and she never returned the call after the move or to this day. She had originally scheduled to have us back to the same location two more times as she wanted to do the job in stages. We decided to cut our losses instead. This did mean however, that she had occupancy of the house for at least two more weeks and so the $70 penalty she says she incurred does not make sense. This complaint was lodged prior to the third day originally on our schedule.

On the plus side, I will say they did arrive on time. We met the lead mover named Ben, and he explained how the move would proceed. His co-worker was named Tim, and both appeared pleasant. Before we started the work, Ben had us sign 2 forms releasing them from responsibility for damages to the furniture. As he explained it, so much furniture is not made well and is made out of fiber board, and doesn't hold up well when moved. We weren't conceded because our furniture is real wood, and sturdy. The truck was pretty large for what we had to move, so I was surprised to look into a half full truck and find our teak dresser, complete with drawers full of clothing, standing on end. I should have looked more closely, but anyone who has moved, knows that your focus is in the house staging things. Half way through the move, Ben started in on Tim. It was obvious that they had never worked together before. Ben started saying very derogatory things to Tim due to where he was born, and how he was doing his job. Tim tried to make light of it, but Ben just kept on. At one point my husband came between them and said," Hey, there are 10,000 ways to make bologna". Meaning there are different ways of doing things, all to achieve the same end results. After that it seemed like they each moved the furniture on their own, Tim at one point having to ask Ben to come and help with one piece of furniture. So, no team work, and dings in my nice teak dresser, chair, desk, and the newly painted doorway into our new house. I am very disappointed with my moving experience.

Response from Cross Town Movers
We here at Cross Town Movers would like to apologize for this move not going as smoothly as our customers have come to expect. We do not dispute any of the statements made by the customer and feel that the crew leader in question was not representing our company in a way we were comfortable with in this and other similar cases. He is no longer an employee of Cross Town Movers.

When we thought about hiring some movers to help us move items out of our storage space and our house, we thought it would be tedious and take a long time. With the 2 guys from Crosstown it was quite the opposite! They had our storage unit cleaned out in about an hour! Drove that load to our house where we had a Pod delivered. They surveyed everything that we wanted to go in and did an awesome job off packing the Pod. They seemed extremely well prepared and knowledgable about how to load the space correctly and were more than happy to give us some helpful tips. Thinking back on it, I wish we had called them sooner - they just made it so pleasant and easy! I'm happy to report the Pod was delivered with everything exactly where it was originally packed.
Description of Work: Met us at our storage facility and emptied our storage unit into their truck. Drove the truck to our house. Moved contents of truck and remaining items from our house into a Pod. Strapped everything down for when the Pod was moved. They were so good we had them come back a week later to help us load the truck we rented to drive the rest of our stuff.

I went with this company because of the rave reviews in Angie's List. I think those people were really lucky to have good experiences. My guess is that Cross Town Movers is usually able to cover their lack of professionalism in handling money and property, by just getting it delivered quickly. My mistake may have been in trying to also use their storage services. My original contact with the Cross Town salesperson was great - friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, responsive. I was confident enough to prepay to receive a significant discount. Moving day (3/7/15) came and went very smoothly - movers were punctual, courteous, helpful and experienced. However, once they had my money and belongings, it went down hill from there. Since the core service is handling of personal property - and they couldn't keep track of my property while in their possession - I'm forced to rate as an F. (Note that they still have my belongings in storage - another service they provide - because I haven't found a new permanent home, yet). Some details: |1) the salesperson told me that I would receive a refund after the items were picked up, weighed, and final charges were calculated. I was also told I would then pay a monthly storage fee. |2) On 3/16/15, I emailed and asked how the refund would be handled. On 3/20, he responded that he would work out the final figures and process a refund. |3) I've not heard from the salesperson since that date. I emailed him two more times, but never received a response. |4) I wasn't too concerned, because I still don't have a place to put my belongings, and I got distracted. But, I called the Cross Town office in early April to investigate. I spoke to Chris, who looked up my account and advised me that a refund would not be processed until by belongings were delivered to the final destination because additional charges based in delivery location could apply. I wasn't happy, because this wasn't what the salesperson told me, but I could understand the policy. He did a calculation based in final weight and said I had about a $600+ refund coming if there were no additional charges. I then asked about the monthly storage fee and how I was to pay for it (first two months were free). He said not to worry, I would receive a bill in May at my new mailing address, which he confirmed they had on file. Chris also told me that he would have the salesperson call me (I've never heard from the salesperson since). |5) No bill arrived in May. Again, I haven't been in a rush, since I don't have anywhere to put my belongings. I guessed the bill was coming late in the month or just deducted from my refund. |6) I started to worry again this week. I called the Cross Town office today (6/12) about storage billing and was routed to Lou in Mobile Storage. He had no record of my belongings or my storage order. He finally found a record of my moving order and told me my belongings were delivered to my new mailing address. I told him that was incorrect. He said he needed to research and call me back. |7) Lou called me back the same day! This was a remarkable improvement, but enough to lift my experience to a D rating. Lou told me he found the paper order in a file cabinet but it was never completed with all the information or processed. Lou told me they do have my belongings. He said that he would send a bill to my new mailing address. He just took my word that the first two months were free, which is fine customer service, but also demonstrates that he actually had no record at all of what I was quoted or the final agreement. |8) At this point, I started to worry again about my deposit and whether there really was a record. However, nobody could help me. I have to call back in Minday and talk to Phil. |9) I never received any formal paperwork since the copy of the inventory on the day of the move. No statements, receipt, storage agreement or policies. Nothing. |10) As part of my prepayment, I did pay for moving insurance. I recognize that it may not be necessary and that my existing home insurance policy may cover many risks, but there are a couple valuable items and I wanted them to be completely protected. I've never received anything in writing about this insurance - no terms, nothing. | |I'm actually embarrassed, because I should have insisted on appropriate written documentation, but I was really conned on this one. I know better than to proceed without proper agreements in writing, But I allowed myself to be lazy (with all the other stress occurring) and just trust Cross Town movers. I was originally going to wait for my belongings to be delivered before writing a C rating review, but today's experience was the end for me. Fortunately I have sufficient email documentation of the original estimates and my prepayments (including mention of moving insurance) and photographs of my property to support a lawsuit when that becomes necessary because they can't actually deliver my belongings or if the belongings are a shambles. UPDATED 8/24/15 After posting the above on a Friday, I was able to talk to Phil at Cross Town. He promised to look into the situation and get back to me. After a little research, he called back to let me know that my records for the move had been misplaced, but that he would get everything sorted out. A few days later, he called again, after reading the above posting, and shared that the company had distributed my posting internally as an example of impact of their current processes on the customer. He stated that they had changed some of their internal processes to close some gaps that had occurred in my place. They also made some other concessions on my account. Since then, I've been making arrangements to complete the move of my belongings to my new residence, which has been pleasant. I have upgraded my review to B because of the assistance of the company since my original review. Also, I have to admit that my original rating was too harsh, because of my frustration level on the day that I posted the review. The lowest rating was never deserved due to the high quality of service through the date of the move.

I had the same team of two guys each time. So friendly! And quick. And they just made my day being so helpful. They took great care with my appliances and furniture.

Terry and Eric have amazing packing skills. They work together as a great team and got the job done in a few hours. Also their positive attitude helped lower our stress from the crazy time of moving.

They are awesome. They made everything look easy. They came, did their thing and were done. They brought it safely in the other location. My niece was happy. They were affordable, $150 for 2 guys moving it.
Description of Work: They moved a piano for us.

I moved to Eugene from out of state and so I opted for a local company that was strongly recommended on Angie's List. These guys were great, they really were and I SO wanted to give them an "A" rating but here's my deal.... As much as I really liked them, very professional, very careful and very nice but.... they smoke. A lot. In my driveway at both pick up and drop off. The smell follows them into my house and I hate that smell. When we arrived in Oregon, they continued to smoke. A lot. At the gate of the truck and oh wait... what's in the truck? My stuff. Maybe it's a CA thing but I can't handle it. If I use them again I will need to find a way to politely request "non-smokers".
Description of Work: Moved me from California to Oregon.
