+ 0 moreOh they were great! They came out after we had worked with Associated Heat who installed two units for several thousand dollars more. One of the units did not work properly they sent someone out to look at it and since they could not figure out what was wrong ,their solution was to just remove it! In the coldest part of the winter! Yikes! So we connected with AUTOMATIC heating who set us up with one unit that heated our whole home, was not in the middle of our front room, and looked fine outside. They were so professional, knowledgeable, and pleasant to work with. This is a big investment and I will always be happy we went with AUTOMATIC HEAT. Their names are so close so I always think I will automatically think Automatic heat for our home...ha ha silly but its how I remember!

+ -1 moreI would give this review a negative 4 stars if I could. We purchased an approximately $10,000 Daikin ductless heat pump system through the EPUD utility conservation program. Automatic Heat was a recommended provider. We have had nothing but problems with the system. We spent a December through February with virtually no heat from the ductless system. After much complaining, money ($500+ - we were advised to purchase a heat pad/tray for the outside unit) and getting EPUD involved, a brand new unit was eventually installed. This November, the system started shutting itself off once again. Automatic Heat came out, charged us a $105 service call and said, "we found nothing." When I got home last night, one of the large ductless units was off and it was cold in the house. We reset the unit and had heat for about 3 hours when the whole system shut down. This is ridiculous! At the time you need heat most, the Daikin system fails as does the repair company. DO NOT BUY DAIKIN AND DO NOT USE AUTOMATIC HEAT... unless you want to go through a cold winter without heat in your home. Arrggghh!!

+ -1 moreVery well. Everyone at Automatic Heat has been excellent to work with so far. Scheduling everything that needed to be done to accomplish this installation was very timely and efficient. Just 3 weeks after we made the decision to go with Automatic Heat's proposal, we were enjoying how nice and cool our house was inside. The installation crew, including the electricians that work under contract, did an outstanding job keeping us informed about what they were doing each step of the way. We've had the system almost 3 weeks now, and we love it! Automatic Heat also prepared all the paperwork and provided the required documentation to satisfy requirements for the rebate our local utility company offers as well as the energy tax credit that Oregon is offering through the end of 2017. These rebates/credits will reduce the cost of our new system by $2100, so getting this paperwork right the first time was critical. Another unexpected bonus: Automatic Heat also provided a complete set of copies of all this paperwork for my records - not a common practice in my experience, but much appreciated!

+ -1 moreI’m writing this review today because our ductless unit stopped cooling recently, so Automatic Heat sent out a serviceman named Jobe to repair it. Jobe was so courteous, knowledgeable, personable, and professional, that the next time we need Automatic Heat to send someone out for maintenance or repair, we’ll ask for him. (The fact that he obviously loved our three cats was a plus). The only time we’ve ever had problems with Automatic Heat was with the owner, Michael, relaying messages (regarding things that only he could answer) to us through his office staff instead of speaking to us himself. Unfortunately, his relayed messages sometimes led to more questions, and more relayed messages. The result of this burdensome process was that we lack confidence that Michael will be willing to work with us if we should ever have a major issue. However, the company’s prices are competitive, the office staff has nearly always treated us well, and the service personnel have invariably been excellent.
Description of Work: We’ve used Automatic Heat since moving into our current home 27 years ago. We first hired them because no one else wanted to service our converted—oil to gas—furnace. After several years, we had Automatic Heat replace that furnace with an efficient gas furnace. A few years later, we had them install a ductless heat pump because we wanted air conditioning. Since then, they’ve performed regular maintenance on the furnace, the heat pump, and replaced the thermocouple on our gas hot water.

+ -1 moreThey could have put the heat pump in a place that would have been easy for them to do, but it wouldn't be the best spot in the house because it would be outside; instead they pointed a spot that was harder for them to put in by the window--and that would be a lot of work--but they are well with it. They could have picked an easy way out and I wouldn't know the difference at that time. They have integrity. They have good price.

+ -1 moreSince we had just purchased the house in October of 2013 I asked if there was anything I should know about keeping the boiler heating system working properly. He suggested that it be flushed every few years. Since I did not know the history I scheduled to have the system flushed in August. He came out and did that. I asked if there we were all set for the cold weather this winter and he said we were. I turned the boiler on the first part of October and it would not start. I called Automatic Heating and the scheduling person could not get me in for a couple of weeks. She said she would call me back because she was having computer problems. My husband called her two weeks later and she finally scheduled me two more weeks later. (sounds like a month to me since I first called them) When Jobe came out to look things over he found a part that needed to be replaced. He said he had to do some research for the part and would let me know when it would be fixed. Since he did not call me I called him back a week later and he had not ordered the part. He called me two days later to tell me it would be a month before he could get the part. I asked him to wait before he ordered the part. I called around and got another company to come out and look things over. The other company was out here in three days. The part will be here next week. It seems to me Jobe is a good employee stuck with a company that does not care how long a senior citizens have to be without heat in freezing weather. I finally had to buy some space heaters when the house got down to 55 degrees inside. The initial cost was $155.00 to check the system, $140.00 to flush the system and $85.00 to tell me a part was broke a total of $380.00. One month to wait for a part is outrageous when the part is available in Portland today. The poor customer service in scheduling is unacceptable. You lost another customer to your competitor.
Description of Work: In July Jobe came out and serviced the boiler for our floor heating. In August he flushed the system. We thought we were ready for winter.

+ -1 moreI did not anticipate there would be the problems there were, certainly not after being a customer for close to 30 years. I trusted what they were telling me -- I guess that was my mistake. Unbeknownst to me -- the thermometer should have read at least 125 degrees of heat coming out of the heat vent. I learned that today from my new heating company. I also learned that I had a very evident refrigerant leak that was draining my refrigerant which caused my heat pump to go into a constant defrost mode, so it's no wonder I had to live on space heaters for close to two months. I am furious with Automatic Heat Company for doing this. Also, their technician used 'Leak Lock' on areas where it should never be used -- it had to be cleaned from those areas. Hopefully it did not make it into any of the hoses and vital parts of the system. My new tech added refrigerant, and charged the system. They did the things Auto Heat should have done. I finally have heat again -- no thanks to Automatic Heat Company. I am so disappointed in this company -- at one time an excellent company. I should charge you for the two new space heaters I had to purchase to keep me warm for two months instead of being able to count on my ductless heat pump.
Description of Work: My 2 year old Mitsubishi Ductless Heat Pump had been down since the first week of December, 2013 when we were hit with a major snow storm and freeze. I had been with Automatic Heat for almost 30 years; first with oil heat service now with the ductless heat pump. I called Auto Heat when we got hit with snow and dipping temperatures. This was the afternoon of Thursday, Dec 5th. I explained that although I had my remote set to 72 degrees, nothing like that was coming out of the heat vent, and my wall thermostat wasn't reading any higher than 64 degrees! I was told because of the temperature outside I should "crank it up" because the system needed to defrost. So I ran the remote up to 78 degrees, waited an hour - now there was no air at all coming out! I went outside to see if the fan was still running and to me it appeared as though it was not running. I returned to the house and immediately called Auto Heat again to report everything I had found. I was told to shut the system down! We're having minus six degree weather and I have no heat! Auto Heat tells me the earliest they can make an appointment to check out the system is Monday when I call in to make an appointment. The earliest I could get was eleven days away, on December 16th. The technician spent about 40 minutes showing me that all systems were "working fine" (I had no idea I was being 'manipulated' until my new heating company showed how my heat pump is supposed to work!) Auto Heat's tech put a type of 'thermometer' up to the heat vent to show me that 70 degrees of heat was indeed coming out of the vent. This is wrong, wrong, wrong! There should be almost twice that amount of heat in degrees coming from the vent in order to heat the surrounding air to a comfortable zone. My new tech was shocked when he held his hand to the vent and felt the total lack of warmth coming from my heat pump. I have a Mitsubishi Ductless Heat Pump which he says is the best -- but it was not providing the type of heat I was used to when it was first installed.

Prior to signing the agreement I had many questions about the project and there was some confusion about the eligibility for tax credits on some of the equipment. Every employee I communicated with was thorough, professional, personable and sincerely concerned that I had the information I needed. Oops, the lead installer forgot to bring a sack of gravel for the outdoor pad, but I had some. Everything else they did made up for that one minor boo boo. The installation crew was friendly, experienced and fast. They left a clean job site, explained how to operate the system and left me with clear instructions, including duplicate forms for the tax credits. The office crew which I never had the pleasure to meet was also thorough and responded to my questions after the installation. Working with Automatic Heat was a pleasureful experience.

If they didn't know an answer to a question we had they were willing to do the homework to find it. The only issue we encountered had to do with scheduling the mechanical and electrical inspections. The dates and times were not relayed to us in the follow through and that was inconvenient.

+ 0 morehad asked for info/bids from a number of different companies. auto. heat was best follow up and number of options. got us a good price on slightly dented but otherwise perfect contidition. not as fast recovery as gas heater we replaced it with (new is electric) but still performs well and slightly less costly to use.

I'm not sure if they did the installation or if there was something remaining in the contract for the address when we bought the house. They've taken good care of stuff and the billing is easy. The guys are fine and they do everything they promise to do. One time we had an urgent need and they responded urgently. Their service is just fine and we would refer them.
Description of Work: We have a service agreement with them and they come once a year to do maintenance. If we have issues they will come out and fix it.

+ -1 moreThey were very professional. They put the device in my house that was in a difficult place for them to put it in because it was the best spot in the house for it to be. They could have put it up in a spot on the outside wall that would have been easy, but they were here and said this is where it needs to be. It took them a lot longer to put it there and I know it was a lot more work for them; but I paid the same as I would have paid if they had put it on an outside wall; but it is centrally located and it works great. They were referred by a friend.

After obtaining three estimates we chose Automatic Heat based on the honest information we received from the sales representative and the good reputation of the company. The installation and needed electrical updates went as anticipated. All of the workmen were profession, helpful, respectful, and clean. They also took special care to ensure that our cats did not dart outside. We were so impressed with the system and the work and fair price of Automatic Heat that we recently had a second system installed. The professionalism of the representatives was again top notch.

+ -1 moreIt was kind of a nightmare. The sales man didn't deliver on the warranty he promised us, that was the big thing. We kept pestering him to get the warranty he promised and he turned on us and said we were trying to take advantage of his company and it got ugly. The system either had problems from the factory because it was a new system or they didn't fully understand it because it went 6 months working at only 20% capacity. We had problems with it for an entire year. It's working fine now, finally. Every time I called they came out and tried to fix it, ti's not like they avoided me in anyway. The repair people were good people. I would absolutely not use them in the future.

Description of Work: I used Automatic Heat because I had a malfunction on the furnace and they fixed it. They do all the work on the furnace including seasonal cleanings and repairs when necessary.
